TBF to Fates, Corrin isn't actually related to any of the royals except for Azura.

And when I found out, I drove straight to Selena in my Conquest run. I just find those two strangely wholesome. Something about a nice young lad cheering up a tsundere with PTSD warms my heart.

Claud/Silvia is an developer-intended pairing, since they have a conversation that give each other love points. It is also the same conversation that has Claud bringing up his missing sister and Silvia reminds him of her, and both of them have Bragi blood. Kaga literally had to rewrite their relationship in an interview, being cousins, instead of siblings, but the game leaves out the implication.

Yeah, Claud definitely seems to be a siscon, even if he's just hooking up with someone who reminds him of his sister.

Then again they say many men end up with women who remind them of their mothers...

i mean, that's the issue. in order to make the incest palatable, the game completely undermines the entire point of Birthright/Conquest's decision, being that of a choice between blood family and adopted family.

all so the game can go last minute, "thank god you're not ACTUALLY related, (⁠｡⁠•̀⁠ᴗ⁠-⁠)⁠✧" and you can have "non"-problematic relationships with your siblings.

its one of the myriad of examples of Fates having like, no cohesion when it comes to various plot points, with them often grating, contradicting, and undermining each other. never forget that Azura has an orb that can show Garon's true nature and she just NEVER brings it out in Conquest (which would have solved the plot so fast), all so the game doesn't have to linger on Leo's doubt in Birthright.

it's a shame, because Fates does have some strong ideas that could have been wonderful in execution. but its so eager to pander to its audience with fan service that it demolished everything that could have been good around it.

also the game actively pushes Corrin and Azura together and doesn't tell you that they're cousins and that's messed up. Azura knows. what the hell azura?

well, i guess fire emblem really is the incest series then.

Ha, it's kind of the opposite for me, though that might be because I don't immerse myself in a lot of fandoms. The Fire Emblem fandom is one of the worst fandoms I've been in. "Don't be a dick" is a surprisingly difficult sentence for some people online to grasp. I've seen so many instances of people being assholes that the only reason it doesn't rank as THE worst fandom for me is that I haven't heard any stories of Fire Emblem fans actually killing anyone.

It doesn't help that my experience with the fandom has taught me that most of the very vocal fans in the series are not good at media literacy. Which normally isn't a bad thing by itself since media literacy isn't easy thing to learn, but it is pretty embarrassing when it's combined with the sort of rudeness that's way too common online.

At least there are a few people in the fandom that are better at media literacy than others, AND they have the bonus of not acting like jackasses online, which is the only reason why I still interact with this fandom at all. And to be fair, it is pretty easy to ignore the rude people, since I've long learned that engaging with them is a total waste of time; life is short and full of negativity already.

Although I don't interact much with the fandom outside of this site, I've heard many stories of fans who hate Awakening and resent the new fans the game added to the series even though the series only still exists because Awakening was popular.

I don’t resent new fans but I do hate Awakening and every original title that IS has made since Awakening (TH doesn’t count as it was made primarily by KT).

To me, the situation is comparable to how many people feel about Interplay-era Fallout vs Bethesda-era Fallout. We even have our own New Vegas equivalent with the Kaga Saga games. Sure, the people currently in charge have made the series ultra popular but the franchise has lost its original identity.

As a general rule nowadays, if I see a poster use hyperbolic language when saying how much they think a work sucks or often go on about how much they hate a work, I tend to just ignore them, because my experience has taught me that those people tend to be unpleasant jerks, and I've seen my share of such people break the "Don't be a dick" and "Don't get personal with other people" rules.

Younger me might have engaged in similar hyperbolic "I think X is complete shit" talk before, but now if I don't like a work of media, I try not to bring it up and I don't hang out on forum threads talking about that work, since I likely won't be able to contribute anything too constructive. And when I do bring up something I don't like, I at least try to be a bit more constructive by talking about things I felt could have improved the work rather than just go "I hate X because it sucks" and acting like an ass towards people who like the work.

I'm still a work in progress, but that's still more than can be said for certain other members of the fandom.

Azura and Corrin aren't cousins, their mothers where merely "Like Sisters"... Actually considering how that's a wording often brought up to de-emphasize LGBT relationships maybe they are related in a different way.

But yeah Epic Bleye hit the nail on the head for Fates' BS. Insisting on "No waifu or husbando left behind" completely fucks up the core of the story.

I'm going by what the games said. Mikoto explicitly stated Arete is her sister in Revelation, so they are related.

Conquest and Birthright: She's not your cousin, but raised by your birth family. Also they're not actually your birth family.

Revelation: Surprise! She's your cousin!

Artbook: Wait no She's not your cousin, Arete and Mikoto are "Sisters in Spirit".

According to Red, FEH: You're a cousinfucker again!

I actually have the artbook with me, but it might take a while for me to double-check and see if such a claim was actually made in the book, since I don't remember if whoever made the claim specified which page it was supposed to be in.

I've recently been playing a lot of Shin Megami Tensei again since Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is coming out this June, and it got me thinking about Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE. I really enjoyed that game, and I was thinking about what I'd like to see in a hypothetical second Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei game.

I was thinking I'd like to see a hypothetical second game be more of a cyberpunk game, especially since Shin Megami Tensei is no stranger to that particular genre. Your protagonists could basically be shadowrunners/edgerunners, only teamed up with Fire Emblem characters to fight whatever megacorp is the bad guy.

As for which Fire Emblem characters it should use, I'm thinking it should be the Magvel characters, because if it's a cyberpunk game, you got to have characters dealing with daemons, right?

Sadly, Jugdral characters might be a good idea, especially if they want Sigurd in the game. He'd probably be dead weight whenever you run into a firewall.

The best part about the "not actually blood related" bit with Hoshido's siblings is that Ryoma knows without needing the letter. So he was gaslighting Corrin the entire time. Guess he decided Azura needed a little competition (even though he has no hope of dethroning the Queen of Gaslighting).

New Mystery's Gra is sending a ton of Ests against us. Unfortunately for them, we're not farmable!

Yeah that still annoys the shit out of me.

I do wonder if Hinoka had some idea of it as well, since I remember being so very confused in her support with Corrin, when she casually drops the bomb that she's not related to Mikoto and the bigger surprise according to the narrative is that she had an argument with Mikoto.
