To each their own indeed because, at least to me, Anankos and the presence of the Awakening trio made far more sense with the DLC.

Really? Because the DLC means their presence makes even less sense. In the base game, you could just relegate their presence to outrealm shenanigans but the DLC has them be given a specific purpose and task (which is given vital importance) which the trio completely ignores in the actual game. Really, the only relevance that the reason for their presence in Fates has is the other DLC, Heirs of Fate (which is its own level of awful) where the Ophelia and Soleil get to do a thing specifically because of their fathers which is somewhat related to how their fathers ended up in the world of Fates to begin with.

They get the magic balls that would send them back home. Course since they used those to save everyone them and their dads are permanently trapped in Fateslandia unlike their normal endings where they go back. All their alternate selves get to go back home instead.

There is some flimsy logic but the rest mostly evens out. Anankos never gave them his kids name. They never saw Lilith because she was framed in shadow, and they only know Corn was in Nohr before being whisked away. Plus with their attachment to their Lords wouldn't be surprised if they intentionally chose not to do their job and just do it half-assedly on the side. Odin goes out and does weird quests just to complete the jobs Leo gives him no matter how made up the crap Leo makes up.

The flimsy logic of them not figuring out Corn is the one they are looking for especially when Severa has stalked him in the past for Camila is dumb though.

fates hasn't became the mass effect3 of this thread because for all the shit I can give to fates, fate's ending is an ending. As someone I've read recently put it pretty well, people expects three things of an ending. Affirmation/sense of accomplishment (Corrin beats the bad guy), Explanation (whether or not all the questions are answered and the answer makes sense), and a sense of closure (what becomes of our crew after the final battle ?)

I'm not gonna try to say what ME 3 did wrong or right about those criteria since it's apparently worth banning, but judging from the fan reaction it clearly didn't do the job in at least one of those departments.

Fate's end isnt irreprochable, but it's mostly there. Conquest manages to feel triumphant despites its flaws, we get some clear closure about everyone in every route, and while we might be missing an answer or two or may be dissatisfied with some we get, it's in a way that we can chalk it up to poor decision making of the characters not just a complete contradiction in the way the world should work.

I think the closure one in particular is important : regardless of what we thought of the game, it's over. No need to come back at it more than wanted.

I mean yoi can get all of those and still feel let down. Not that I felt that way about Fates.

Sure, but not to the massive scale of what happened to mass effect 3, both in terms of scale (it's one thing for a few people to feel persona 5's ending betrayed the whole point of the game, but most people don't agree) and of reaction (I feel disappointed by the end of Infinite space because it fails hard at closure, but you're not gonna find me argue about it at every turn). That's my point.

Something else came to mind about the whole Three Houses mooks thing: I wonder if any non-final boss boss characters will only show up on their lonesome, without any mooks backing them up? Maybe to make them more intimidating?

Yggdra Union had at least one character who had no mooks supporting them, but that boss was the Final Boss of the game. I fully expect the final boss of Three Houses to not have any mooks, especially if they're a big freaking dragon or goddess or goddess dragon, but it might be interesting if we got a human boss who only appears by themselves.

I'm not sure what Mass Effect 3's ending has to do with Fates.

A human boss who fight by himself alone would certainly be interesting, as well as being a sign that s*** its about to get real!

Depending on how rare dragons are in this new setting, I can see dragons fighting by themselves.

Another interesting way of using mooks is to make it look like you're up against a single unit...and then the rest of the group burst out of nowhere to either kick your ass or defend the main unit.

I doubt we're getting ninjas in this game, but it would be kind of cool seeing a lone ninja rushing toward the enemy...and then suddenly there's a whole lot ninjas right before the clash happens.

I never played Dynasty Warriors nor any of its crossover spin-offs.

But I would be up for a cameo boss fight of that series anyway!

If ninjas are in the game, I hope that they can do that ninja-thing of... You know, like they seem to have gotten hit. But a puff of smoke appears and its revealed that what was actually hit was a log.

Given how Fire Emblem has treated Thieves/Rogues/Assassins as time has progressed, I think if Ninja aren't specifically in the game, that kind of animation could easily fall to those other classes.

Lu Bu and the rest of the Romance of the Three Kingdom characters are public domain, so it wouldn't need to be a crossover unless they wanted to copy Koei's design.

I think it would be interesting if this new setting had another Asian-inspired country, though as of now it doesn't seem like we have any.

The fact that Claude seems to be a different ethnicity than Edelgard and Dimitri means that it's at least possible. We know that there's more houses than just their three, and I doubt IS can resist throwing a samurai clan in there.

Awakening had Say'ri and Yen'fey hanging around. Lyndis and her homeland where based on the Ainu. Samurai have been sneaking in for awhile. Actually, do we have any confirmation one way or another if the "Hidden" weapon types are returning because they would practically exist to justify Gratuitous Ninja.

I wouldn't mind seeing Chinese-inspired armies too, although that might be me just cross-pollinating the three houses title with the three kingdoms era.

[up][up] They were supposed to be Ainu? I assumed vaguely Mongolian, what with living in tents on plains and the mounted archers and such.

I have been told that, mostly by costume designers. I am not overly familiar with Ainu or Mogonlian culture myself to make a proper take though. Not that Sacae can't be a bit of both.

[up][up] Huh. There really haven't been any Arabian-style characters have their? Not even a stereotypical mysterious desert bandit? Seems like we're overdue.

I always thought Hardin's non-Emperor appearance looked kind of Middle Eastern. Don't know if the character designers intended for him to appear Middle Eastern, though.

Golden Kamuy is a good way to get some okay starter knowledge of Ainus to learn about them. Eapecially as the ones known to Japan lived in the cold northern part of Hokkaido after Japan pushed thrm there hundreds of years ago.

Just know its a very...weird series.

So them being Mongol inspired seens more likely,

Fire Emblem desert kingdoms

Khadein, northeast Zofia, Thabes, Yied, Nabata, Jehanna, Grann, Plegia, the part of Hoshido where the Wind Tribe live

Of those I'd say Nabata is maybe the closest to a traditional 'Arabian' location

Tellius also has Stefan's village, if we're just talking about desert villages. We never really get much on it beyond Stefan's off-hand remarks, though.
