I think the natural blood alcohol content of the average oni prevents too many world devastating consequences. I mean, look at Suika in the fighting games. She's fall down drunk in every sense except the falling down. I bet whenever the Devas get together they get really drunk and proclaim that they're besht friends and that they love each other, man.

And then they climb a mountain, drink some more, climb back down it, drink some more, uproot it and throw it at someone.

An idea on how Suika's cloning works:

-Density is, ultimately, how many units of Something (TM) fit into a given amount of space.

-There is normally one unit of Suika in Gensokyo.

-Cloning is achieved by increasing how many units of Suika there are in Gensokyo (i.e. a higher density of oni).

-This was discovered while Suika was trying to "increase the density of oni in the surface world" as a quick and easy way to bring her people out of the underground. Since the power to manipulate density is lazy, it just created more Suikas instead of going to all the bother of forcing a reclusive race of superpowerful youkai out of the underground realm.

Probably just a coincidence.

We know that Suika's destiny manipulation is kind of vague to the extent that it can effect population density. Could Suika use her power to make Cirno smarter? As in, less dense?

^^^'Cause I'm - no, that meme is getting overused.

^^Probably yes, either by increasing the amount of information within the defined space of "Cirno's brain" or by just making Cirno less dense.

^...Sorry.

Keep in mind, Touhou powers run on wordplay but puns are only valid if they work in Japanese as well.

So, Suika turns into mist.

Somebody breathes in some Suika.

Suika decides to regather herself and become giant.

Ludicrous Gibs time?

^Nah, the path of least resistance for the Suika particles is to just flow back out of your lungs through your breathing tubes.

I'm never sure whether I should call her Rin or Orin. Technically she's introduced as Orin, but ultimately it's just a nickname. How familiar should I be with a fictional character?

The games themselves call her Orin, and it's her stated preference. Besides, if you really want to be formal you should be calling her Kaenbyou.

I would have thought there'd be more to talk about with Suika but I've said that with every character so far.

I don't mind doing Orin next if you guys don't want to talk about the sheer majesty and glory that is the unnamed giant catfish.

I personally just call any given Touhou character by the shortest part of their name and/or nickname. And somehow this foolproof system still allows me to misspell.

Oh snap edit: We forgotted a Suika picdump.

So, let's see if I'm right about our interpretation of Suika's power:

She becomes giant or tiny by changing her density without changing her mass. She creates mini-Suikas by increasing the density (either population or physical) of the area around her, and she just might be getting extra mass from her endless sake gourd, if we want to try to avoid saying that she's got Shapeshifter Baggage. (heck, her Sigh of Purgatory spellcard may be using this extra booze-mass)

Is that about what we decided?

There's some evidence that she can change density by changing mass but not volume.

^ What do you mean? Like, she's made herself heavier or lighter without changing shape, or something?

I think Suika's powers are quite a bit more flexible than we seem to be implying. Rather than finding some particular way of phrasing something such that it can be considered a manipulation of density, it's just Rule of Cool. Plucking out your hairs and blowing on them to turn them into a bunch of mini-mes? Cool.

Also, it's described as primarily the power to gather and disperse, with a touch of "creation" thrown in for kicks. "Density" simply being the short way of saying it.

Her ability allows her to control density. She can gather and scatter whatever she desires. By gathering people's sentiments, they will have parties; by scattering herself, she can become as mist. The strange mist that brought about the events of Immaterial and Missing Power was none other than herself, in very thin form. Her ability does not produce some unseen power; she can gather and scatter only that which already exists, but the process occasionally transforms one thing into something completely different. It's kind of close to creation in that way. The long lost power of the oni is truly exceptional.

Is it just me, or was all of Suika's Alternate Character Interpretation talk splitting hairs over what her powers do?

Not certain what the deal with Fawriel is, but this thread is mostly managed by the regulars now.
