I can't find any lines to this end in Zeta episode 7, but I seem to remember someone saying that the Titans covered up the Colony 30 gassing with a claim that Spacenoid terrorists mixed into the crowd released a bioweapon.

Can't find the source, though.

Personally while I think there was some (willful)ignorance I always saw the Federation just hanging the Titans out to dry when their reputation tanked. Space was getting harder to control as pretty much everyone hated the group, Fed staff were deserting to join the AEUG and Karaba, and for all of the Titans might, they ultimately couldn't do the job they were given. Though hey, maybe some of the Fed officers just were completely ignorant of the whole thing. It's a big government, who knows.

I always saw them as something akin to the Black & Tans from Ireland's history especially in regards to the greater Fed government's relationship with them. Basically, Britain needed to exert more control in Ireland with the war of independence so they hired a ton of people, some military, some not, gave them authority and just set them loose on the countryside. Villages got sacked, numerous innocent people were massacred due to suspected affiliations or merely a desire to abuse power (thank you Winston Churchill). My point is, that the Federation didn't order the Titans to gas colonies, but they did field a known violent group with the understanding of "do what you think is necessary", just like the British did.

The Fed officials being so willing to take advantage of Haman's colony drop doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in me thinking that they thought the Titans went too far.

[up] Might have been. But then there was Jerid and Gady's gassing, and while that failed, the Titans performed it with the intention of letting it be known that they were the one's behind it in order to Make an Example of Them.

Time for more Zeta Gundam. I can get this done in the next two weeks.

Ep-29

  • "Crisis at Side Two" It's always trouble
  • "He needs his lunch too!"
  • More opaque visors, always love that detail.
  • Katz not being annoying.
  • It's always a burger they're eating, though I have to ask, is it Chicken Again?
  • G3 and VX, the Titans are breaking so many rules.
  • Titans and called out on being just as evil as Zeon
  • I'm not pleased with the amount of nudity in anime.
  • This got silly fast. Also Kamile, her eyes are on her face.
  • Jerid took over as leader pretty well, even if it is evil.
  • 50 colonies? Wow that's a lot.
  • Onto evil.
  • The Mayor is a coward, and they shot a guy!
  • Combat! Nice Shot Camomile Tea
  • Jerid vs Kamile
  • Sure blame Kamile and not your own evil attitude.
  • The rifle is also a beam saber?
  • Katz was useful for once
  • WHY ARE THERE KIDS ON HERE?!
  • Mayor is a shitheel

Ep-30

  • "Jerid's Desperate Attack" So normal business for him.
  • Neo-Zeon is here, Char hates everything about this.
  • Jerid's been demoted.
  • Jerid admits his problem.
  • Bright has been mocked.
  • Yazan is unaware
  • That sounds like one meek titan, "yessir"
  • This wasn't expected
  • Argama isn't looking good
  • Jerid vs Kamile, some man on man action.
  • Maoa is gone.
  • This got trippy fast
  • Jerid got in some kills.
  • Jerid is sad.

Ep-31

  • "Half Moon Love" This will end well
  • Taking kids away from the Argama!
  • Also Armstrong park
  • The kids ran away
  • I gotta take a moment and ask, how is everyone not freakishly tall? The gravity of the moon is very low and how
  • Just stick a bomb in there
  • Hanging out with Kamile
  • Stopping a bomb
  • Combat time
  • Sarah is good at escape.
  • No repairs
  • GET OFF THE SHIP YOU TWO! YOU'RE GONNA DIE!

WHY ARE THERE KIDS ON HERE?!

One question I have never been able to figure out the answer to.

I know Tomino or one of the execs wanted some kids on the show to lighten the atmosphere, appeal to kids, or whatever, but in-universe Shinta and Qum never made even the tiniest bit of sense.

I just ignore their existence as much as is possible.

Yeah Shinta and Qum just appear. Apparently there's some backstory about them being orphans from the assassination that Char took in because of Lalah's spirit, but none of that is in the show.

I think it's implied that Char brings them on board as a Newtype experiment. Kids are more likely to awaken as Newtypes, and Newtype awakenings are more likely to happen in space, so... might as well test it out, right? It's another demonstration of just how heroic an uphill struggle Char is engaged in to be one of the good guys this time around.

What's precedent ever done for us?

I really liked the bit of war commentary in The Blue Team Two Parter in ZZ. Where it's about Zeon funneling resources and Mechs to a rebel group which isn't necessarily aligned with them but is an enemy of the Federation. That was a cool real-world parallel what with the Contras and all the other time's big countries fought proxy wars.

It was also hilarious that one of those fairly advanced mechs got taken out by a wire missile truck. Chumps.

So, I'm sorry if there is already a thread for this, but I've looked and haven't found anything, so here's Hathaway'S Flash trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7bMxkhqXho

I would have embedded the video here, but it's apparently not allowed.

Yup, it's a new story set during season one. Here's the best synopsis of info that I've found. It's called "Urdr-Hunt" and stars a new character who grew up in a Venus colony. It's being released as a mobile app, but it's unclear whether it's going to be an OVA (Thunderbolt and Twilight Axis were both first released via mobile app), a game, or what. No release date yet.

The new Gundam image that was teased a while back is the Hajiroboshi, not a new form of the Barbatos as widely assumed. That's not one of the Ars Goetia demons, so it's safe to assume that's not the Gundam's original name. It's presumed to be the Marchosias, based on a symbol seen in the PV (first reply in the link above), which would make it the ASW-G-35.

Soo, here is a pretty interesting video on 4 cancelled Gundam series.

For those who dont want to watch the video, I can summarize the series which are discussed on the video which are...

1st, the untitled Seed movie.

Most people already know about this one, but for those who dont know. There was supposed to be a Seed movie that went into development hell when Fukuda's wife fell ill, there is no official confirmation that the movie was cancelled. But many people assume that it is due to the passing of Fukuda's wife. (May she rest in peace.)

2nd, Doozy Bots.

Oh men, this is a kinda infamous one. This is actually a SD Gundam western cartoon about kids who transform into SD Mobile Suits/Armors that was meant to introduce Gundam to western audiences, but from what we see from the only trailer that was released... It has a very Glurge-ish tone to it.

Also, there is this shot in the trailer in which you can see that the mobile suit/armor that a kid in a wheelchair transforms into is...

a Guntank. Nedless to say, many people are glad that this series never came to be.

3rd, Gundam MSX.

A sidestory of the original Gundam that was about a federation pilot with the mission of trying to capture a Zeon asteroid base.

It was apparently cancelled when Zeta was greenlit. Though the legacy of this particular series still exists in the MSX Mobile Suit Variations.

The 4th/final cancelled series is so obscure, there are no english sources for it.

and all of the information about it is in japanese. It is called...

ポルカガンダム which translates as... Polka Gundam.

It was going to be a UC series that supposed to be released after Victory, and it would have involved...

Mars.

The series was cancelled after the financial failures with Victory, so they decided to go with something different, and G Gundam came into the picture.

As for why exactly it was going to be called Polka Gundam....

The guy in the video does some speculation regarding that. such as, maybe it could have been a portmanteau of something that was never revealed. But no clear answer exist as far as I know.

It's been a long time folks, so that means time for more Zeta Gundam!

Ep-32

  • "Unidentified Mobile Suits" I want to believe!
  • Seriously though this intro sequence is a bit too long.
  • Recap
  • Welders
  • Wong is a dick, with a annoying voice
  • Siding with Zeon and Titans
  • Kids get off this ship before you die!
  • Wong don't be a dick
  • Holy shit I agree with Wong, and he shows a nicer side to kids... what is wrong with the world today?!
  • The Mess hall is so un space like.
  • Reccoa is off.
  • Yazan is a dick, but effective, a wild animal.
  • Also again seriously I hate these kids, the White Base Trio I had no problem with because it was made clear they were on board because they had nowhere else to go and were actually useful at times. These kids do jack and shit. And Jack just left town.
  • Off to War!
  • Evil shaking hands.
  • Freaking Psychics.
  • Guys often have the weird ability to get along with each other.
  • Zeta Stomp
  • HOW DO YOU MISS?!
  • Wong you aren't a tactical genius. Bright is in charge!
  • Yazan has a new suit. Honestly I prefer the Gaplant.
  • RECOA NO!
  • Yazan kicking newtype ass.
  • Fa is relatively untested as a pilot, can't blame Bright.
  • Oh no. Neo Zeon.
  • Don't be mean Recoa

Ep-33

  • "The Messenger from Axis" Look if you are a relatively fascistic like organization and you have AXIS as part of your naming schemes, then you're pretty evil.
  • Fixing the Argama.
  • Lotta resources out in the belt. Also the Feds lost interest in space, how?
  • Jealous Fa?
  • Haman.
  • Old Zeon uniforms
  • Tense.
  • Mineva is so small!
  • Char when did you get time to go see Mineva?
  • Not like it was hard to know.
  • "Some secret" Kamile you are speaking my mind.
  • Char is intimidating, and he's having none of that Zabi family crap, especially since he IS the son of Zeon.
  • Breakout time through the oldest trick in the book and the Zeons still fall for it! I'm laffin!
  • 15 Minutes, and Char wants to save Mineva.
  • "I've never betrayed anyone!" Lying!
  • Breakout!
  • Into Combat
  • Yazan is a sexist.
  • Haman you're being played.

Ep-34

  • "The Call of Darkness"
  • Char has reason to be outraged. This is the ideology that dropped a colony on Earth, twice. So much for respecting Earth.
  • Crew fatigue. Time for Shore Leave.
  • These kids are useless. They best be removed soon.
  • Wong is a dick!
  • Fa and Recoa talk
  • Backstory Time
  • Gender politics.
  • Yazan is a strong pilot.
  • Wong is a idiot.
  • Space Cactus
  • Recoa is leaving! Feelings of loneliness?
  • Decoy Balloons, how long did these take to make?
  • Overkill!
  • Recoa is losing it.
  • Bright is talking back to Wong, knocked down by Bright! I love it!
  • False Flag!
  • Yazan is having none of this Newtype bullshit.
  • Recoa's not dead, she's just crazy.
  • Goodbye Methsus.
  • It can't be that easy to placate Wong.
  • Another punch to Char.
  • Blame Char for this? I'd argue that Recoa herself needed help and Char isn't to blame for this situation.

I rewatched the Unicorn OVA. I don't think I've anything to add that hasn't already been said about it but I just want to gush about one particular moment. In Episode 7, right near the beginning, after the existence of Gryps 2 being operation is revealed, that whole scene is just too good. The scene goes from Bright preparing for atmospheric descent and the camera heads towards the sun. Asteroids zoom past and Gryps 2 comes into view as a silhouette with the sun blazing in the background and Gryps' panels filling the screen. Then the view switches to the Earth with Gryps 2 seen from behind as the title card flashes. All the while, this track plays (slightly differently cut but still the same track). I freaking love it.

I'm rewatching it dubbed and I can't stop hearing Shiro whenever Burgerger speaks.

He's using his exact Shiro voice (and also his Daisuke Aurora voice, for that matter). Which is offputting since I'm like "are we sure he's Cardias' kid... OR IS HE SHIRO AND AINA'S LOVECHILD?!?!?!?!").

I didn't even realize McGillis was the same actor until I looked him up.

Yeah, I didn't realise that Chocolate Man is also technically the Inheritor of Laplace's Box either.

Been a bit. Time for more Zeta.

Ep-35

  • "Storm over Kilimanjaro" and I'll bless the rains
  • The Raddish, time for repairs
  • Broken Haro, also these kids are annoying. Kamile is fatigued.
  • Hate these kids more.
  • Gotta plan around these things.
  • Kamile and Four, awful romance truthfully
  • New suit, more Zeonic design.
  • Missile Tech
  • Animation picked up
  • I never got waverider mode honestly, it wouldn't really go faster in space, plus it expends more propellant via not using the AMBAC
  • It's hard to stage a raid on a mountain.
  • Hello Psycho.
  • Into the Water.
  • Stage a raid on Shadow Moses the Titan Base.
  • Torture of Four.
  • That's a reasonable view, can't use a pilot if they're dead.
  • Bulletproof glass.
  • Oh hi Amuro.

Ep-36

  • "Forever Four" FOREVER YOUNG! DON'T WANNA BE! FOREVER YOUNG!
  • Planning
  • Char has a point
  • It's not a hollow theory Kamile, that's how brainwashing works.
  • Stealth ops Kamile
  • What the hell is going on here?
  • Brainwashing is messed up
  • Medicine time
  • Cyber-Newtypes are messed up
  • Jerid appears
  • Four has no memories
  • You know for having a broken leg, Jerid is dedicated.
  • Four has switched to kill mode
  • Hijacking time
  • Cyber-newtypes is stronk
  • Char has a point in that war sometimes to save more lives you must take one
  • "Live in the real world" boy start thinking with your head.
  • Hi Jerid
  • More trippy newtype hax.
  • Welp she's dead.

Transforming designs in space really never made much sense, barring rare exceptions.

Occasionally, like with the Gaplant they make some sense as they point all the thrusters in the same direction, which, you know, helps with acceleration. The ReZEL also makes sense in that it becomes a space jetski for another suit, which is fucking awesome and I don't care who knows it.

But then you're got things like the Hambrabi, which can only slow down a suit since now the feet thrusters are unusable, and they're the second most powerful thrusters and they're... pointed at its head.

Most other transformations at best limit weapons and agility for no tangible benefits in space.

... and then you have things like the Unicorn's transformation, which yadda yaddas most of it due to "stress on the pilot," yet for some reason thinks it makes sense to hide its beam sabers in Unicorn mode. Great idea, the stress of "having half its fixed weaponry accessible" really is too much for a pilot.
