Shin Megami Tensei Series

I think it's because my first exposure to Lucifer was Nocturne, but I like him a lot more when he's in the shadows, scheming and plotting but not necessarily involved in the events of the game until you seek him out. In Strange Journey he's just a spectator who wants you to take Chaos and only rewards you with his name and support upon your choice to do so. In Nocturne you go after him in search of knowledge and tempted by the power and answers he can provide.

I know SMT is the Patron Saint of Satan Is Good but I imagine if I played one of the games where he was a more benevolent and active force in the story I'd probably resent it, but I'll save that until I actually play a game where that happens.

Humanity gets genocided all the time on Law so ending it is a Mercy Kill meta wise, especially since reincarnation means you experience it again, and again, and again.....

And it's actually iffy if they truly end all Realities or just the ones in the Conception, whjch have already killed off all of humanity for Conception.

@Red Hunter: I like her Redux Characterization. Lucifer gives off being passive, but has actively set in motion events with Alex to hopefully save humaniy.

Apparently there's evidence that the people who made the fan translation of SMT I and II used Manipulative Editing to make the Chaos dudes seem more sympathetic than they were in the original Japanese.

Lucifer tells you that killed time itself. That's pretty definitive.

Anyway I'm not going to get into a discussion on the ethics of genocide in a game with a chariot penis monster.

How are SMT 1 and 2? I figure if I want to call myself a trufan I should play those sometime.

I know it was true for I, but II Visionary ITEMS that were NOT translated by them goes out of its way to show that, no, Lucifer is being good and does have good intentions, but he's made mistakes, which his spooky ghost live in Aleph's hearts is about Lk saving the slaves or taking the weak mutants under his protection.

The eternal battle between Law and Chaos is the flow of time. By killing he who destroys and remakes the world for all eternity(Kagutsuhi) and making him double dead, time has ended.

One part of the Manipulative Editing that I remember is that in SMT 2, there is this statue or something that asks you various alignment related questions. And I remember that in one part, the statue was supposed to say "The rewards are many" if you were neutral, but in the Aeon Genesis translation the statue says "The rewards are few" instead.

Which, considering how the Neutral ending actually feels by the end, would be more accurate.

You're defending AG tricking people? Geez.

I don't disagree it's a writing problem, but unlike thw Law or Chaos endings there's nothing about Neutral that feels like it has "many" rewards in II, it feels more like shilling Neutral in a game where it is objectively the worse route. The Visionary Items for II that AG never translated even imply the "chaos-shilling" is grossly over exaggerated.

Yup. Also in any versions afterwards including the official translation for I.

And like say I presents Lucifer as being scummier than he was already was in the original. Like manipulating Liliths longing to be with Hero.

Crossing my fingers for some news about Shin Megami Tensei V in today's Nintendo Direct, as unlikely as it seems.

I would hope so since it's near TGS and Yamai promised more information this year but Atlus's marketing seems to hate multitasking with a passion so I'm not getting my hopes too high yet.

Edit: Oh yeah, an insider on ResetERA hinted that there's a Switch port of TMS in the cards, but I doubt that would be announced today either.

I do hope a Switch port of TMS comes out. I didn't have a Wii U, so I missed out on that when it first released.

... Shit, I hadn't expected that to possibly get onto the Switch. It has something to do with getting bait-and-switched, getting a bloody idol game instead of the serious 'SMT characters and Fire Emblem characters duking it out' premise it initially had.

I don't think there's actually a confirmed port, just rumors floating around. I'd be happy if the rumors are true, but I'm personally hoping for information on V over TMS (if only because I'm kind of starved on V news).

FWIW Jon from Game Xplain is theorizing some SMTV news.

I’m still trying to finish my Wii U version of TMS. I keep hitting walls that prevent me from playing or finishing it, from not being able to buy it when I originally planned, to not being able to play it freely, to the current problems with my game pad that I just haven’t had the time to fix.

I want to beat that version before any Switch port.

Okay, they just confirmed the Switch port of TMS. Looking forward to it!

So i finally finished the strange journey redux years after finishing the OG. Is there a reason why YHVH and Lucifer are ladies in this iteration? Also to revisit a discussion, it just seems strange Lucifer takes a backseat to Mem Aleph despite disliking her and mocking her in the Chaos+.

Because Lucifer decided to sit on the sidelines. He's done this before, like SMTI where he never directly interferes.

I beat SMTIV two days ago.

It was okay. I definitely prefer Strange Journey. IV was so ridiculously easy once you got to Tokyo.

I didn't like any of the characters whereas Jiminez and Zelenin were awesome.

They clearly tried to give the alignment reps more character in IV but they failed miserably. Jimenez and Zelenin are indeed way better characters than Walter or Jonathan.

Are you gonna play Apocalypse? Best SMT game. Also best Persona game.
