@Comonad

I don't think you ever fight the Buddha either, though his technical level of deity depends on who you ask.

ANYWAY, it's more of in SMT 2, they flanderize it to the point of making you wonder if there's some research failure going on. Meanwhile, Lucificer is a nice guy, which isn't totally inaccurate, but geez. Meanwhile, other gods and goddesses seem to get a much more accurate representation wherever they appear, Thor being the war god, Shiva merely being there to do what he's task to, the Hindu goddess of mothers being... motherly. It isn't so much punching out God as it being that there's a feeling of discrimination.

EDIT: Jesus also auto-revives every three turns.

I just resumed playing Devil Survivor again, and I must admit, choosing which ending path to follow was a bit weird to me, but when one of the choices basically boiled down to trying to kill God, I figured that how often do I get the option to do that and went for it. Also, Reflect Phys is my bane.

As for early-mid game demons, Comic X 6, I get the impression magic types are the most useful at this point. Also, having a Kishin-type demon with your heaviest damage dealing party can lead to much joy and asskicking.

YHVH and Lucifer are more original characters based loosely off of their mythological counterparts than actual interpretations of them. That tends to happen as characters become more important to the plot - see (P4 spoilers) Izanami, who definitely wasn't trying to cause Instrumentality or whatever in the original myth.

Unfortunately, you get a Game Over before you can see whether Jesus auto-revives. He does know Salvation, though.

Hmm... fair enough, though I still can't agree with it.

Needs more Spaghetti Monster though.

It does. The only really modern demon is Mothman.

If you want a more Christian-friendly Megaten game, play Persona 3 and pay attention to the symbolism. Massive spoilers: You're Jesus, you die to save the world, and it's awesome.

I'm not joking about Jesus, by the way.

More modern myths would be awesome. I'd like to see aliens of some sort, Greys in particular, since they've basically taken over the psychological niche Fairies used to have. Also lizard men! Bloody Mary would be nice, too, or Bigfoot (although Wendigo kinda covers that one).

Man, I was going to mention Bloody Mary. More so, Yeti and that dang giant Alligator that lives in the England sewers.

Yeah, anything to get away from the over used demons in some of the SMT games. Like that one youkai that lives in bathrooms and licks the floors with its tongue. Got a bathroom cleaner on my team (which is less silly than some of the other things you can get in the games).

DeSu is also pretty easy on God; he and the angels are pretty cool with humanity, it's just that the demon outbreak was causing them to have to consider an Assimilation Plot.

angels in general are still a bunch of dicks tho, its just the higher ups and god who arent.

SMT 1 isnt actually very hard, just very very broken. as long as you have zio or bufu spells you can kill pretty much anything. the real difficulty only appears because of the unfortunate glitch or whatever that causes those level 51 enemies to appear in the lvl20-30 mall. you can rarely run from then and almost never talk them away, killing one even with bufu or zio is damn hard and they're often followed by what is most likely the strongest demon in that area.

ive always wondered why there are maybe 5 encounters in a single step.

I'd kill to see the Bunyip appearing in the games. All Australia got was Yurlunger (Julunggul), the rainbow snake goddess, so far.

Still, compare to other games, DeSu's God was more friendly, compare to His other depictions. Strange Journey's version is up for speculation, since all we heard of Him was through Mastema.

Thinking about the elemental skill names, do they sound like onomatopoeia to anyone else? Zio sounds like the zap sound that plays when you cast Zio, Garu has the same sort of breathy sound and cadence, Mudo has a similar low-pitched rumbling sound, etc.

come to think of it, is the god in De Su the same as the one in nocturne or smt 2 or not?

nocturne seems to suggest all games and series take place and that theres a multiverse or something,im wondering if god is either a schizo, has worlds he prefers over others, or if they're not the same (but there only seems to be one lucifer so they probably are)

I assumed the Three Wise Men were meant to be YHVH in Strange Journey. I mean, he/they/it definitely backs up the Law side of the equasion, and who else would appear as a trinity?

But I'm assuming that Devil Summoner was a different continuity, and so YHVH may be a completely different entity there. He was a bit more tolerable, but whatever his motives he was still threatening to erase mankind's will, so I'd still put him in the "dangerous, do not trust" category. Personally, I'm wondering how much of his lenient behavior was because the main character is Abel. Y'know, favored son and all that.

Do you mean Devil Survivor? Because in that case, God in that game really wanted to leave humans alone but had the angels intervene because of the demons appearing. It was also some of the angels (read: not Remiel and some others) who wanted to do the enslaving. If there's anyone who does the enslaving, that would either be you in the Law route or some of the angels in the bad ends.

Even in the Chaos ending, God is fine with you as you are, Metatron isn't but you're basically proof that the human race is creative and does what it feels like doing, which apparently makes God happy.

So...what does everyone think of Strange Journey? I bought it a while back and haven't started, got sucked into Resonance of Fate instead.

Been a fan of the series since Persona 2, and I've played: Persona 1, Persona 2: IS, Persona 2: EP, DDS 1/2, Devil Survivor, Persona 3 (and the Answer), Persona 4, Kuzunoha Raidou 1 and 2, and watched my sister play Nocturne. Finished all of them (most of them multiple times) except Persona 1, where I stopped 2 steps before the room with the final boss in it on the SEBEC route.

I'm still waiting on Atlus to take the plunge and develop for a nextgen platform. Or maybe a flagship title that's not on a handheld.

Strange Journey is a callback to the classic first-person dungeon crawlers in the series.

Just...much more friendlier in warning you of boss fights. It's still challenging enough due to the SMT name and ATLUS. At least you start off with an immunity to Hama spells.

Good choice. Normal mode is very manageable, aside from the Wakeup Call Boss and maybe one or two others.
