I just completed Day 5. This was an interesting chapter, involving patching up a misunderstanding. While I accomplished the main goal, there was a yellow noise on some guy that I never got around to erasing, thinking I'd go back later.

Anyway, after accomplishing the mission, we meet Higashizawa in person. He loves his food, apparently. But more importantly, his statement that we're all already dead, and the Reaper's Game is apparently a giant "Chess with Death" situation. And also his taunting of Shiki that she's got pent-up jealousy inside her. I'm sure I'll find out the details of that myself later.

Do you want spoilers on that, or do you want to wait and see it for yourself on the inevitable replay?

Day 6 is complete! This was quite an eventful chapter, both in the day's mission and in the overall story. The attempts to get people to take the pins were funny. From the guy who thought Mick was hitting on her girlfriend, to that Tin Pin Slammer hero kid, to that bit with the Tech, that was silly.

And for the overall plot development, Sure enough, I learned Shiki's full story. Mainly, that that isn't Shiki's real body, just a copy of Eri's. But soon she learns a valuable lesson in appreciating the talents she has.

Next up, Day 7!

I recently found out my Switch's touchscreen doesn't work when trying to play Final Remix. Tried playing it in docked mode, but the controls felt a tad weird, so I sent in my Switch for repairs. Hopefully I'll be able to play Final Remix in earnest soon.

Earlier this week, I completed Day 7! This was a pretty straightforward chapter, with me going around unlocking the paths to the shops and doing some shopping before the big showdown with Hizashizawa. As for the fight itself, it handed me my first defeat. I had a hard time avoiding his melee attacks once he started using them. But on my second try, I equipped the Heal Drink pin and that gave me the breathing room I needed to defeat him.

But apparently, the adventure is not over. My mission for the first day of the new week is phrased in the form of "algebra homework" as Neku put it.

I just did Day 1 of the second week. My new partner is the mysterious Joshua. This day was mostly about learning about my new partner, both mechanically and story-wise - but more mechanically.

We also met this week's GM, who introduced himself by calling us "So zetta slow." So, it's THAT guy, huh? The "math fetishist" himself, Sho Minamimoto! Soon, we found ourselves in battle with a foe that seemed impervious to our attacks at first. Soon it became apparent that I had to hit it from behind to deal damage to it. Between Higashizawa and this Noise, it looks like the times when I could win fights just by spamming psychs will soon be gone, and positioning now matters.

My Switch's touchscreen got fixed, so I've started Final Remix as well. I've never played Solo Remix before, so it took a bit for me to figure out how the Vespertillo Canor fight worked without a second screen.

[up] That was a bit weird, yeah. I'm interested to see how some of the later-game fights go with one screen, specifically Uzuki and Kariya, and certain phases of the fight with Konishi.

I took a break from this for a while, but now I'm back at it. Joshua, day 4.

...I've played through the DS version three times before this, but somehow I never bothered to make much progress on the postgame stuff. First two times my brother wanted to play afterward, and there's only one save file, plus I didn't know how much' postgame content there was when I first got through it. Third time I got a little ways in, but never finished. This time I'm looking forward to that.

I've pretty much settled on playing in handheld mode with a phone stylus. Using a joy-con is OK, but even after getting practice with them, it still feels clumsier than the touch controls. The stylus helps, though - I don't know how well I'd do with my fingers.

That reminds me - is A New Day available with the rest of the postgame content as soon as you finish, or do you have to do all the rest first?

[up]I read on the TWEWY wikia that you had to complete certain challenges to access it. I myself haven't tried it yet though (since I'm only on Shiki Week 5), so don't take my word for it.

Just looked it up, and it looks like the last day of each week has a combat challenge available, and you have to do all of them. That makes sense. I already did the first one, so I'll be sure to look out for the others when have the chance.

A little while ago, I completed Day 2 of Week 2. This day featured the introduction of Taboo Noise, a Tin Pin Slammer Tournament, and Joshua being frustratingly casual about a game where lives are at stake.

Just completed Day 3 of Week 2. This day's mission was non-existent. But there was plenty to do on the side, such as my first encounter with a Blue Noise, plenty of shopping, some Tin Pin Slammer at Stride, grinding those jellyfish noise for that pin that I needed to get past a wall, and most notably, getting caught up in the "Dogenzaka Ramen Wars", as Joshua put it.

With the only kind of Ramen readily available to Americans like me being the instant kind, this chapter has left me really feeling like I'm missing out...

If you live in and near any of the US's big cities, I guarantee that good ramen is closer than you think. tongue

Except in New York. Oddly enough I've yet to find a good ramen place in NYC.

There are a ton of really good Asian restaurants and markets and stuff in my area because that’s how the demographics are, and ramen is no exception.

Although when it comes to ramen, I never really tried going to restaurants for it before I played TWEWY. I got curious after that. Now I can actually answer the “which of these kinds do you like best” question from experience. [tup]

Finished the main story for the first time. Debating whether I should complete the Another Day storylines or start on the Secret Reports.

Tin Pin Slammer seems more difficult for me on the Switch than it was on the DS.

Well, your progress on secret reports won't go anywhere if you get bored and move to the AD plot, but if you leave AD your plot progress will be reset. (Of course, if you get bored of AD and want to quit, maybe you won't care that you'll lose your progress.)

Tin Pin Slammer is harder on the Switch... because the controls are worse.

The AI is still just as terrible as ever, so you can spam your specials and still win for the most part.

I recently beat "A New Day." The battles there get pretty hectic, and the final boss of that day has a really kickass design; as a big fan of youkai, I'm glad that they went with a baku look.

A New Day was fucking bullshit and I hate it.

Not that it was really all that difficult, I got through all of it at level 15 and on Hard/Ultimate difficulty. It was just infuriating because it boiled down to "use AOE pins exclusively or you're fucked, and also sometimes you'll lose simply because the AI decided to be a dick at the beginning"

Honestly, there's a huge lack of... I don't want to say effort, but a lack of inspiration in any content that was added/changed from the DS version. The expert quests had a neat idea- with having an added mechanic on top of fights- but then their form of "difficulty" was to throw hoards of enemies at you at once, which goes against TWEWY's enemy design philosophy. In the base game there's an emphasis on focusing your attacks and evading based on enemy attack patterns, which is impossible to do in A New Day, hence an all out offense "kill everything" is the only strategy that works here.

This lack of inspiration arguably even continues into the story, where the plot was "oh look, characters are acting weird, and Coco sure isn't suspicious huh? Not at all." And then battle after battle after battle to make the day take longer. That never happened in the base story, where Reapers were only placed if they needed to guide the player to story content OR they were gating extra/new/powerful content to explorative players. Otherwise reapers weren't there. You certainly didn't have stuff of 3-4 story reapers in a row.

Don't even get me started on the "ending" which is frustrating on numerous levels. What's up with Coco's motivation? There doesn't seem to be any. Why is Joshua acting so cold? The extra scene after getting all the secret reports, and the end of the game, establishes that Joshua genuinely looked to Neku as a friend (with Mr H asking Joshua if he wants to be with them). That's wholly contradictory to Joshua saying he's done with Neku and just leaving him to be dead.

A New Day felt like if we only had Week 2 of TWEWY. No Week 1 to establish the setting, no Week 3 to actually complete the story or resolve anything. I get that it's supposed to be a sequel hook, but that's bullshit because TWEWY was designed as a standalone work and there's no guarantee of a TWEWY 2. And we only got more questions about Hype-chan! Oh, and Coco's art is disappointing. It's easy to see that her art style and direction doesn't match up at all with TWEWY's original art. It's hard to describe, but it looks like she's imitating the art style, not like she was designed with it in mind. There's a clear difference between Coco's art and the rest of the cast's.

I'm sure you can gather this but I did not like A New Day at all.

I liked A New Day just for being more TWEWY content, but even so, I did find it disappointing for all the reasons you mentioned. Especially the plot. It didn't answer a goddamned thing, only raised more questions. If they don't make a sequel after this I'm gonna scream.

After ignoring the game for a while, I got through Joshua Day 4. This day's event was the mystery of the missing mic. but more relevant to the main story is another encounter with Beat, as well as finding out that it was apparently Joshua who killed Neku, Sho's been creating Taboo Noise, and the red pins get even more mysterious.

Went and got all the secret reports, including those of A New Day's! I also completed the noise report.

The secret reports do make things a bit better, since it does establish that Joshua has some sort of plan and motivation and that whatever happened with Shinjuku is particularly extraordinary. But this just makes me want a sequel more, which we might not get!

The A New Day pins are still busted as fuck. One of the pins is virtually as good as the entire Darklit Planet set in terms of damage potential and shredding enemies, and it's super easy to get too. I'm 100% guaranteeing that they weren't paying attention to balance when making these pins.

I'm going to take a break for a while, especially given how I just beat all of the content in the game, but I might come back to fully 100% the game!
