Daddy AF.

Catherine Grace Garner (born September 17, 1996), known professionally as Slayyyternote , is an American pop singer-songwriter from St. Louis, Missouri. Commonly recognized as an important figure in the early days of hyperpop, she is well known for her loud, brightly colored, Y2K-inspired sound and persona, as well as her unapologetic sex-positive attitude.

Slayyyter began her career as a musician while at college, independently uploading music to SoundCloud; she eventually dropped out after a year to fully commit to music. Her music began attracting attention on Twitter, where she met the artist Ayesha Erotica, who would become her most frequent collaborator in songwriting, production and/or vocal features.

Her first eight singles were released in 2018, and by early 2019, she had attained such a following that a single of hers ("Mine") had a snippet go viral on Twitter with over 200,000 views, and went on to reach the top 40 of the US iTunes pop chart in under 24 hours. She embarked on a sold-out tour that summer, and eventually issued her debut release — a self-titled mixtape — in September of that year. By this point, her success was attributed to her social media virality (on platforms like TikTok alongside Twitter) as well as the Stan Twitter community.

Between late 2019 and 2020, Slayyyter began work on her first official album, Troubled Paradise, releasing the Title Track as the first single in 2020. After consistent single drops from the upcoming project, the album was released in early 2021 through Fader. In July 2022, she confirmed in a tweet replying to a fan that work on her second album was almost complete.

Discography:

  • Slayyyter (mixtape, 2019)
  • Troubled Paradise (Album, 2021)
  • Inferno Euphoria (EP, 2022)
  • STARFUCKER (Album, 2023)

"I've always got tropes over me":

  • Ascended Fangirl: Of Britney Spears. Her remix of “Gimme More” gained great popularity due to its status as a viral TikTok sound.
  • Autotune: Often a stylistic element of her more hyperpop-leaning songs. It’s especially prominent on “Villain.”
  • Auto Erotica: Described in “Motorcycle.”
  • Berserk Button: According to “Self Destruct” if you try to talk to Slayyyter she “WILL FUCKING KILL YOU.”
  • Blatant Lies: An exchange in "I Love Hollywood":
"I've never done drugs in my life~"
"You're literally doing coke right now."
  • Boastful Rap: A perfect descriptor for “Daddy AF.”
  • Call-Back: “Oh me oh my” from “Mine” can be heard as a back up vocal in “Tattoo.”
Knew I had to make you mine (oh me oh my)
  • Darker and Edgier: The mixtape version of "Ghost" (titled "Ghosttt" there) changes the key from major to minor and is instrumentally much more dark and driving.
  • Dedication: "Hello Kitty" is a love letter to the titular Sanrio icon.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Described in “Clouds.”
I don’t want to think, Pour another drink
So I don't have to feel anything
  • Double Entendre: Does she really want to take a ride on his motorcycle or does she want to take a ride on his motorcycle?
  • Embarrassing Tattoo: Slayyyter thinks that getting a significant other’s name tattooed on you is tacky, which is exactly what “Tattoo” is about.
  • Epileptic Flashing Lights: The video for “Self Destruct” has lots of them.
  • Erotic Eating: The single cover of "Throatzilla" features her holding a silver banana.
  • Gender Flip: Slayyyter feels “Daddy AF” and so will you when you hear the song.
  • Genre Throwback: Much of her music, especially her early singles and first mixtape, is inspired by early 2000’s pop and celebrities like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.
  • Horrible Hollywood: Outright celebrated in "I Love Hollywood", extolling the elitism, drug abuse, promiscuity, and image-obsessed fashion of LA.
  • Idiosyncratic Cover Art: Done with her single covers.
    • Her pre-mixtape single covers all feature a shiny charm against a monochromatic background with a pixelated title.
    • The Troubled Paradise singles are all associated with a different color of the rainbow. “Self Destruct” is red, “Throatzilla” is orange, “Over This!“ is yellow, “Cowboys” is green, “Clouds” is blue, and “Troubled Paradise” is pink.
  • Intercourse with You: “Candy,” “Motorcycle,” and “Throatzilla.”
  • Irony: The lyric “They play me on the Radio,” is made even better when you consider the fact that… they don’t.
  • Lyrical Dissonance: “Clouds” is a bright piece of dance-pop about depression.
I wish they knew what goes on in my head
Sometimes feels like I’d be better off dead
  • Money Song: “Cha Ching” is an Affectionate Parody of one.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Even when she’s not singing about her incredible blow job skills, she’s most definitely wearing something that leaves little to the imagination. She even posed topless in a thong for her self-titled mixtape.
  • Only One Name: Slayyyter.
  • Road Trip Plot: The music video for “Mine” is made up of footage of Slayyyter’s actual vacation in Las Vegas.
  • Self-Titled Album: Her debut mixtape.
  • Serial Killer: The song “Serial Killer” is about Slayyyter living with a man she suspects to be this trope.
  • Shout-Out:
    • “They say I’m toxic” from “Devil” is one to Britney Spears.
    • The cover of Troubled Paradise has her dressed as Dorothy Gale.
    • In “Throatzilla” she has her “Wig off like [she’s] Hannah Montana.”
    • "Erotic Electronic" has the lyric "fuck me on the dance floor", which is a Princess Superstar (one of Slayyyter's influences) song.
    • "My Body" starts with the same shooting-star intro that "I'm Blue" has.
  • Silly Love Songs: “Tattoo” is intentionally written to be one. “Mine” also fits the bill pretty well.
  • Surprisingly Gentle Song: The closing track on Troubled Paradise “Letters” is a gentle acoustic love ballad, whereas the rest of the album is made up of loud in-your-face dance pop.
  • The Power of Friendship: “BFF” with Ayesha Erotica is all about sticking with your BFF through thick-and-thin.
  • The Western: Appropriately, the music video for “Cowboys” is modeled after this trope.
  • Title Track: “Troubled Paradise.”
  • Three Minutes of Writhing: The music video for “Troubled Paradise.”
  • Title-Only Chorus: Say it with us.
    “I LOVE HOLLYWOOD!”
