Oh yeah, you can't button mash with Beat and earn fusion stars at all reliably.

If you can't focus on both screens at once (it's harder than it sounds, and it sounds pretty hard!) try following the puck?

Also don't forget to use Beat's guard skill as much as you need! It blocks all damage.

Also don't be afraid to buy defense boosting foods and feeding them to Beat. It honestly becomes necessary for bonus bosses on harder difficulties.

What's the Solo Remix's Sequel Hook like? I kinda like this game being standalone...

It was just this image that appeared after the short, extra scene that plays when you get 100% Completion.

Some of the stuff you learn in the postgame massively opens up the setting for potential sequel material, but I don't think any followup needs to have the same cast or even the same setting necessarily. They could easily set a sequel in a different Tokyo ward with a different kind of Reapers' Game.

The ending is super confusing without the Secret Reports. If I hadn't known some of the stuff beforehand I'd have been "???" at what happened after the duel, why Joshua was with Mr. H, what his role was, and why he let Shibuya live.

I think if they ever made a sequel, having it be about different characters in the same setting, possibly in a different city or district, would be the best route. No need to drag Neku and the others back into things (except maybe Joshua and Hanekoma), since their story was already wrapped up nicely.

The teaser in the mobile version was a still picture of a girl who hadn’t been seen before, which suggests the “same world, different characters” route. The upcoming Switch version is finally going to follow through on whatever that was, but it’s not clear yet what that entails.

I picked up the Final Remix version of this game. I'd gotten partway through the DS version, but I never finished it. I got up to the part where Rhyme got eaten before losing interest (but my memory of that is fuzzy because it was so long ago). But my DS version of this game (along with many of my other games) was stolen by a guy my mother had been hiring to do yard work for her while I was away at my day job. Being unwilling to buy the exact same game twice, I thought I'd never get to go back and complete it, but with this Final Remix, I am taking that second chance.

I got through Day 1 of this weird "Reapers' Game", where my mission was simply to "reach 104", and meet Shiki and learn about basic movement and combat along the way. This is the first Switch game I've played that uses only one Joy-Con. Of course, not having dual screens meant some changes had to be made to the controls and battle system, and this is taking some getting used to. I'm still not sure whether I'd have an easier time with the left or the right Joy-Con (FYI, I'm left-landed). It's been a bit awkward having to point and click where I want Neku to go instead of using the joystick, but I'm sure I'll get used to that eventually.

And with only one screen to work with, instead of the "puck" getting passed back and forth, I've got a "partner pin" which essentially works like normal ones. And the game auto-saves sometimes. I was expecting it to do so right after the "Chapter Closed" screen after I defeated the boss, but that didn't happen until I regained control of Neku after the opening cutscene of the next one. This resulted in me having to fight the boss of the previous day again.

But I'm sure I'll get used to how this game works soon enough.

[up] Enjoy! Hope you finish this time - things get very interesting very quickly after the point you left off in your first playthrough.

I got the Final Remix version on release day. Using one joy-con threw me for a loop when I started up the game - I thought I was having synchronization issues before I figured it out. For the record, you can have the other joy-con activated even if it's not being used (whether or not you're doing co-op), so no need to choose between the home button and the screenshot button.

The motion controls work well. I was kinda worried about that, because it would've been a much worse port if they weren't, but it's surprisingly precise. Takes some practice for certain motions, though. Slashing took me a little time to get the hang of, but it's gotten easier - which is good, because on my previous (DS) playthroughs, I always liked to have a slashing pin on hand.

The biggest issue I have when playing docked is how easily the pointer drifts. Thankfully it's easy to re-center it, but you have to do it a lot.

For anyone who prefers playing in handheld mode, I'd recommend getting a phone stylus. Since the Switch has the same kind of screen, it'll still work, and it's easier for precise motions than using your finger. I got mine for drawings in Splatoon 2, but it helps with games like this, too.

I'm still not sure what I think of the adjustment to single-screen battles. I guess that's what the mobile version was like, too, but I never played that, so it's new to me. I have mixed feelings. It's probably more accessible, but some of the fights that incorporated both screens have to make full transitions between them now. It works, but it's a little awkward. Then again, for someone who never played the DS version, it probably works just fine.

Speaking of which, how does fighting Taboo Noise work without the light puck? I haven't gotten that far in yet. Do you have to damage them with fusion combos? That's probably it.

Auto-saving is nice. Works well with this kind of game. Also the visuals look fantastic! Again, I know it carries over from the mobile version, but having everything look like drawings instead of sprites makes a big difference.

Cross comboes. Basically when you and your partner attack at the same time you get a multiplier that does the same thing as the light puck.

I was going to say "that's what I said," but then I realized I said fusion combos. I meant cross combos.

That makes sense.

I just finished Day 2, where I had to "set the cursed statue free". And along the way, we meet Beat and Rhyme, who teach us how to use the Main Menu and equip pins … and then Neku has to go be a killjoy with his whole loner bit. A spent a good while exploring the menus and exploring all their different features.

Then, it becomes possible to actually lose fights. I only was in any real danger against the boss of the day. Those quills on that porcupine thing were harsh. I imagine I was supposed to stick with ranged attacks against that, but I'm still not quite used to the controls. I still managed to beat it without dying.

And then the day ends on a cliffhanger. This is where autosaving between chapters would've been good, but Day 3 starts with me regaining control of Neku without revealing too much more, as well as allowing me to level up my pins even while I'm not playing. And I've been through this part before, although my memories of it are vague.

Is it offensive to suggest that I think I want a crossover with Rantasmo of NeedsMoreGay for Week 2?

There's a lot to analyze in this game, and I'm looking forward to seeing his takes on the rest of it.

I'm not going to lie...I had some trouble getting back into the Switch version. ...not for any sensible reason. It's just that I played the DS version at a pretty bad point in my life, and it brought back bad memories.

I haven't tried touch screen controls yet, but I'm finding using a Switch controller to point on a large screen much easier than the DS's resistive screen (even if I miss the split screen battling). What about the rest of you?

EDIT: Also, stupid question, but where do I get the tradable item drops? So far I only seem to be getting money pins.

Ouch, sorry to hear. sad

I'm finding the motion controls kinda hard myself, would be better if I had a proper couch setup, but handheld mode is more that enough for my wants.

Tradeable items are mostly found via hard mode and up, and become commonly available starting the end of the week.
