A Game of Gods: A Multiversal Challenge

"Oh, sorry," said Sub-Zero. "Well, at least he'll be well armed," he said, motioning at Rey. "In the right hands, a Kori Sword like that can put any other sword to shame."

"Rey if you can summon any more guns I might do so now."

"Hold on," said Sub-Zero. He summoned an AK-47, made ammo and all of (what else?) ice, and gave it to Rey. "Will this do, Doctor? And why would we need guns?"

"Looks like someone still wants us badly..."

Spriggan said. "And I'm almost out of ammo too..."

"The Doctor is indeed correct," a familiar voice growled from the back of the portal chamber.

Standing just within the entrance to the facsimile ballroom, arms clasped behind his back and silver robe shimmering faintly in the light of the champions' holographic effigies, was Lambda. The argent Nomad cut an imposing figure with his considerable height and broad frame, to say the least, and while his face was concealed beneath the shadows of his hood it seemed clear from the intense silver glow of his eyes that the deity was not pleased in the slightest.

"I'd imagine that you're all feeling quite pleased with yourselves," the argent Nomad remarked, his voice unnaturally calm and controlled as though he were making a concerted effort to keep from losing control of his temper. "you have defeated your captor, brought an end to the games—for now, at least—and ensured your freedom. Bravo, warriors."

Lambda unclasped his hands and brought them together in a trio of slow claps which echoed loudly throughout the room.

"Lambda," asked Sub-Zero out of the blue, "was Gordon Freeman your champion?"

Kimimaro realized the problem immediately... and went deathly pale.

"Oh no... Echidna... She... Omega... Oh, by the Sage..."

He pulled The Key out from his pocket, staring at it with a haunted look in his eyes as implications hit home.

Galen sat up with visible effort. "I..." he said, then a cough racked his body, and there was blood on his lips. "I... do not know... if this will help... but... we Jedi... are taught... to let go..." Obviously, talking was hard for him.

"Galen... Sub..." Kisame said. "If you value your lives, shut your mouths right now. If Lambda is anything like everybody I've known to go through this sort of thing... he'll make you two wish you were dead if you so much as look at him wrong right now."

Immediately, Sub-Zero turned himself into an icy mist. He certainly valued his life.

"Of course not, you imbecile," the argent Nomad replied, fixing Sub-Zero with a baleful gaze. "More to the point, it is none of your concern who I had chosen to serve as my piece in this farce."

Lambda turned slowly to face Kimimaro then, his silver orbs regarding the key in the former Sound Nin's hands with thinly-veiled disgust. "Yes, the Key to my wife's prison. Forgot all about that in your haste to get out of there, didn't you?"

Rey moved silently, picking up Gordon's crowbar, as well as one of the med packs, heading over to Galen, sitting next to him and offering the pack to him. "Try this, maybe it'll help."

"My time... is nearly come... I can hear the... Force calling me..." He coughed blood again. "I need to speak with Link..."

"I never forgot!" Kimimaro said. "Do you think any of us could have foreseen that Omega's death would shatter the planet? Besides, he was not giving us a chance to escape nor to non-lethally neutralize the threat he posed! Would you rather we had all laid down our arms and died at his hand, which likely would have resulted in The Key's destruction anyhow?!" His voice became sad. "...Your beloved... was doomed the moment Omega implemented the last stages of his plan. If I could do anything to bring her back, even at the cost of myself, I would in a heartbeat. ...One more unforgivable crime he now suffers eternally for."

"If Lambda made it out..." Kisame said, gripping his sword and going on the alert, "Digamma likely did too..."

Phi spoke up. " ... Lambda... I know how you must feel... I suffered the same thing too before I was taken by the Nomads and became one of them..." Phi said as he recalled an image of a man sitting by a woman's side. Phi could hear a baby in that image. Phi shook his head. " If I was in your position... I would wish vengeance as well... But please... this was out of their control... you have no one to blame except for Omega, who had already paid with his life..." Phi said Lambda.

The silver Nomad's eyes narrowed as listened to Kimimaro's outburst; he then turned to glance at Phi, and the faint hint of a smile could be seen through the shadows enshrouding his face. "You speak the truth, brother. Come, step closer that I might properly thank you for helping me to see the light and acknowledge the error of my ways."

" Not falling for that again, mate." Phi said with a chuckle. " Plus, I promised Kisame to kill me." Phi said with another chuckle.

Kisame bared his fangs. 'Bastard used Itachi...' he thought. He looked to Lambda. 'Better not use your grief as excuse to steal my prey, motherfucker...'

Spriggan raised his gloved hand up, restraining Durant, Micheal and the Black Stig from firing their weapons.

"Let's hear him out."

Sub-Zero reformed himself, but left his mouth as ice so that he wouldn't say anything stupid.

The Doctor doesn't feel like giving sympathy. "Lambda. Why did you go to this extent? You proved that you could subtly help us without the Nomads noticing. Why didn't you help from the start?"

Kimimaro glared at The Doctor's utter lack of sympathy for a man who had just lost his beloved who he had done everything to try to save. It was the worst Death Glare he had ever given anyone, laced with a huge amount of Killing Intent (such that even other people, who were not the focus, would've felt anywhere from nervous & on-edge to downright terrified, even if they couldn't see Kimimaro's eyes; The Doctor himself, the target of all this, would be lucky to remain sane), and with the irises gold & the sclerae black.

The Doctor turns to Kimimaro as he feels the Killing Intent run over him. "He's let Digamma torture us. He ran this game of pain, misery and death. Rey has probably lost any chance of a normal life thanks to him. And all for his beloved."

He turns to Lambda "Lambda. There's an old human saying you might remember. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

"...I'm only not killing you for that, Doctor, because I am sure that Lambda is about to."

Bowser and    Iota    stayed to the back of the group, keeping an eye out for anything...unpleasant.
