I haven't heard it yet, but "Black Rain" is supposed to be a Badmotorfinger outtake, and as that album was pretty awesome I'm interested to hear the song. I'm questioning the reason for existence of the Telephantasm thing though *, since they already did the whole "compilation with fan-bait outtake attached" thing right after breaking up. Looking at the track list, the one disc version has almost nothing (other than "Birth Ritual" and the new song) that A-Sides didn't already have, and has 5 fewer tracks. The deluxe version has more early album tracks, some live cuts, and the video version of "Fell On Black Days" though, which is nice I suppose.

Earth is the only planet inhabitable by Nicolas Cage.During Faith No More's last reunion tour date, Mike Patton said this would be the band's last appearance together. What this could mean worries me (I've still never had a chance to see them live).
Festival Dates with Alt-metal bands
Three Days Grace and Godsmack will be appearing at Rock on the Range. Alter Bridge and Godsmack have a series of North American and European tour dates planned. And who can forget the blackdiamondskye tour with Alice in Chains, Deftones and Mastodon. Finally, the Uproar festival will have Disturbed and Stone Sour headlining.
I've been watching Disturbed's new video for Asylum, and if nothing else it's easily their darkest video yet. So dark that it borders on Tastes Like Dirt. I don't watch many videos, but this is probably the darkest non-industrial video I've ever seen (of course I avoid death metal and grind videos).
Anyway, I've edited the article to reflect it. Nearly doubled the size of the music video section (so I suppose it's also their most Troperiffic yet as well).

A Badmotorfinger outtake, you say? Hmm, I hope it's produced better than that album as a whole...
(6-day pause between posts = thread necromancy?)
Probably should get working on that essay now...Big day for Disturbed; "The Animal" came out on Rock Band (been playing that all morning) and they released "Never Again" for free on their website.
Also, the Rock Band version of "Asylum" has the "Remnants" intro.
Let me just say I like it all *.
I usually don't believe the hyperbole of bands saying "This is our strongest, best record yet", but I'm starting to believe that might be the case.
Yeah, I definitely need to find an mp3 of that version of "Asylum".

I'm growing a taste for Amon Amarth, but I don't know what you guys consider Alt metal vs. Straight Metal.
My all time favorite alt thought would have to be System Of A Down

Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of usSo... you guys ever heard of Hetera?
Sounds good. Too bad their upcoming album is "soon to be released" for a long time now.
No regret shall pass over the threshold!... {{Understatement that can't be good}}
Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.Disturbed and Korn together for MAAW V. Meh.
Been listening to Alter Bridge's new album. Not really liking it that much; if I wanted depressing post-grunge I'd look everywhere else.
AB is one of the those bands who probably couldn't pull off Darker and Edgier. Hope they get back to uplifting messages of peace and rocking out soon.

Very promising. Excited to hear the non-radio-edit version indeed.
No regret shall pass over the threshold! Not bad. Some clever instrumentation. For whatever reason the singer sounds accented but they're apparently American.
But how alt-metal is it? Enough, I'd say.
Sounds good! :)
http://www.myamplifiers.comWell, it's actually Italian. And about the alternativeness... I personally consider Metalcore to be alternative, so I put it here. Would be unfitting in the 'normal' Metal thread.
Now, I gotta remember what was the music video I planned to post here after somebody done a reply (well I hate double-posting)...
No regret shall pass over the threshold! There doesn't seem to be an issue with bringing metalcore up in the metal thread. Even stuff like Converge has been talked about without anyone complaining.
It's certainly not a "true" metal subgenre, but I wouldn't call it alt-metal either. Maybe some bands have alt-rock elements, I don't know.
last.fm | RYMEarliest Metalcore, in some sense, is pretty closely related to alternative metal: punk creates post-punk which helps the existence of goth and early college rock/80's indie which then becomes 90's alternative (though hardcore had nothing to do with this, so it's more like distant cousins than a full-on grandfather relation-ship). I suppose that goes to say that if anyone anywhere ever fused new-wave/post-punk with heavy metal, that would be the earliest alt-metal. Interesting to think about, but I hope it never happened.
Anyone wanna come protect Slipknot's article? Some "metalhead" is a vandalizing it.
I didn't notice anything wrong...
Page history.
Okay, I see it now.
That's kinda funny that the person had that big of a problem with them.

I like. A bit hardcore at times, but it works. And yet they're broken up.
Am I the only one who - for some reason - expected Times of Grace to be interesting and innovative, only to be greeted with shrill, run-of-the-mill melodic metalcore?
I guess it's the fact they just happen to be named after a Neurosis album and I had exceedingly high expectations even after learning it's a coincidence and that they merely totally respect them and stuff. :(

Never heard of Times of Grace and I think I've only heard one Neurosis song, but I have been dissapointed similarly to that.
I blindly bought a Dir En Grey album because the cover was a tribute or something to King Crimson. Biggest waste of $20 I ever had.
This band is still together, but they haven't released anything since 2006 except for one song in July last year.

^ Very clever; that's probably the best description I've heard yet of Remember Who You Are.
My thoughts on Black Gives Way To Blue? I'm actually avoiding it.
I like to listen to my music in a sort of canon as far as hearing how they develop, meaning that I always try to start with bands from their debut in order to experience them as closely as possible to how they were supposed to be experienced. This means that I'm not going to listen to it until I've heard their live album and Jerry Cantrell's Degradation Trip. Whenever I do hear them on the radio, I turn it off. If nothing else, I've supported the band by buying the album.
As for what I've heard, Check My Brain sounds average to me.
So what do people think of Black Rain by Soundgarden? I like its sludgy, Sabbath-like approach, so I think it's a cut above usual comeback material. But that may have something to do with it being an unreleased song (so there's no way of knowing when it was recorded).
I just want to say that any Alt-metal fans should check out Alter Bridge. These should be some good samples of their work.
