What of the events in the third Pokemon movie? The one with Entei?

I was going to ask what about the fact that they seem to exist only for the basic "latin" alphabet, ie.: no Ž or Ж or Φ Unown... I would have liked to address that issue after I ran wild one discussing how fun it would be trying to pronounce that you caught an Unown Ĉ to your fellow trainer at Serebii once...

Has anyone started on Team Galactic?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that anyone has claimed Team Galactic.

Thinking about it, it must really suck to work at a power plant in the Pokemon world. You've got to protect against various kinds of electrivorius Pokemon.

Anyway, I think I'm going to do Ditto, the Cherubi line, and the Shinx line next, if no one has already taken those.

Perhaps do it in a slightly different format? As if from a government intelligence agency gathering information?

Also, another Rocket splinter gone haywire?

Cypher also seems likely in that respect, with Snagem being just a cell that got ignored after a while.

Question: Would you describe the Chingling line as a land-based sea sponge, or something else? I'm a bit baffled, to be honest.

While I can't be sure about Galactic, Cipher and Snaggem being yet more splinters of Team Rocket makes the most sense, especially considering that the two groups might as well be the two most prominent characteristics of Team Rocket distilled into two groups.

As for Chingling, I have no idea what sort of animal would be its closest analogue IRL. You might just have to make stuff up for that one.

Maybe it's kind of like some of the other Pokemon based off of objects, like Voltorb and Bronzong? Considering both it and Bronzong can be found in Sinnoh (and in some of the same areas), maybe they're somehow related. They both could possibly be bells that came to life somehow, like how Voltorb are related to Pokeballs.

Yeah, but the problem is that it's biological! And it anchors itself to trees. And is fructivorous(did I get that right?).

Land barnacle? Hmmmm...

I'm getting really sick of all the teams being splinters of Team Rocket. They are not the source of all evil in the Pokemon universe.

Team Galactic always felt like a cult of face built around Cyrus. That became a hair's breath of becoming a full on religion in Sinnoh due to it's popularity. Using his intelligence and charisma, Cyrus recruited the downtrodden, the outcasts, and the gullible into his fold with promises of a new, better world.

Cypher was probably a shadow ops division of the Orre government that eventually came to took it over, or at least parts of it. Snagem was probably just a small time group of thugs that was hired to do Cypher's dirty work, but broke off from them after Cypher fell for the first time.

Land barnacle actually isn't a bad idea. RL barnacles have motile larval stages, which is totally like what Chingling is.

Weirder things have lurked about the Pokemon world. Okay, land barnacle it is.

Yeah, Galactic was a cult. Still, you make Cipher sound a great deal like Rocket, even there.

-Shrug-

I still fail to see what's wrong with Rocket having once been an international juggernaut that came apart, but whatever.

Now... Photophillic as well as fructivorous? Have a long and nasty history with humans using their sails/tails/whatever for prayer flags?

A pedophile ring! Do they even have those?

Anyhoo, I think using Chingling and Chimecho as prayflags/pets would be cool at temples. Also, make sure you remark that they're basically living bells.

Well, it may not be canon, but it is the sort of sick twisted thing people are capable of.

Honestly, while there may be people who treat Pokémon as their friends, there are going to be just as many, if not more, who treat them as little more than tools and weapons.

Think of how war is conducted in the Pokémon world...

Ditto Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Ditto [132]

Notable Biology

Ditto are small, amorphous Pokemon that look like purple blobs with two small eyes, a mouth, and two stubs that resemble arms. There are rare Ditto that are blue instead, and are prized by collectors. Their most famous trait is the ability to alter their cellular structure to become any species of Pokemon, as well as inanimate objects and even humans. This transformation is complete down to the genitals, allowing Ditto to breed with just about any living thing. As a side effect, Ditto probably has the greatest libido out of any Pokemon.

Though their transformation ability is normally flawless, Ditto tend to need to see their subject of else they will start forgetting features, often putting their faces in place of the Pokemon they were trying to mimic. They can be knocked out of their form by laughter or by being defeated, though there are some Ditto that can keep it up for longer. [[Trainer's Note: There is a rare mutation in which a Ditto is born without the ability to change in size when they transform, or they grow too much. These Ditto are prized even more than shinies.]] Ditto also have a strange habit of transforming into other Ditto when they meet each other in combat, only to stop when they realize what they're dealing with.

Habitat

Ditto are often found in the outskirts of cities, caves, and forests within Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, though they are normally never very far from people. People rarely see them due to Ditto disguising themselves as rocks or other such objects to protect themselves from predators.

Diet

Theoretically, Ditto's Transform would allow it to pretty much eat whatever it felt like. However, they tend to prefer to eat smaller Pokemon, transforming into their target to beat it into submission before eating it by expanding their mouths and digesting their prey inside their stomachs.

Hazards

Ditto are a very shy species, and prefer to keep away from conflict. However, if faced with a threat, they will transform into their aggressor and do battle. Due to their unique body structure, they are incapable of being paralyzed, and even in their normal form they are quite resistant to physical attacks, though they can't fight back due to said shape.

Courting and Childrearing

When Ditto want to mate, two parent Ditto absorb each other and exchange genetic information through transposons before separating into both parents and a new Ditto. The three then go on their separate ways.

Due to Ditto's special ability, they are used in Pokemon breeding to breed with just about any Pokemon, and are most often caught for this express purpose. Folklore tells about Ditto impregnating or being impregnated by humans and having children together. This means that a small minority of humans may actually be part Ditto, though it would be hard to pick up. It may even still happen today, though kept under wraps.

Social Structure

Ditto tend to be loners, though they are not averse to groups.

I'm not really in a position to index anything right now, but a few thoughts:

Paras: Remember, these entries are from the point of view of a general-interest encyclopedia. A lot of Paras trainers are probably going to be very interested in knowing how they can spare their pet from a zombified fate.

Mewtwo: may want to make sure it dovetails with the Cinnebar Island entry. I think it was suggested that Mewtwo now maintains a loose affiliation with the League, sometimes having surprise exhibition matches ala Stadium. (Otherwise, League-restricted property such as the Cerulean Cave offers Mewtwo privacy.)

Red: probably caught the Kanto dex legendaries, on behalf of and heavily assisted by Oak. Mew's probably only been caught on film. Other legendaries that have sightings in Kanto and the Sevii isles weren't caught by Red, hence their absence from the original 'dex.

Mew: love the Snap reference. But, I think we're interpreting TMs/HMs more as just instructional kits, rather than magical knowledge downloading devices. (aside: Under "Hazards", Maoh might disagree with your analysis. tongue)

Glitch City: could possibly just lump it in to the Cinnebar Anomaly.

Unown: does the Pokémon world have the Latin alphabet?

Galactic/Cipher/etc: Yeah, making the Rockets responsible for everything doesn't really seem to work all that much.

Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?

I don't know, I think we can assume that the P Cs just knocked out the Legends, seeing as how we see Frontier Brains use them at will.
