I'll call dibs on Iron Tail, but can someone set up a Moves template? I ask because I just joined yesterday.

Edit: It's been a while, and I'm still waiting.

[up]There's no move template, but there are two move examples. One mine, which has borked formatting for some reason, and one made by someone else.

I've also refreshed the dibs on my things. rip me why. i should stop putting these two off.

By the way, TIL that a bunch of Berry trees in Generation IV are palette swaps of other other Berries. In G3, those pairs didn't even bother with a palette swap and just used the same sprites.

This is my very first time posting in this thread. I'd like to grab the Dibs on the Skrelp and Dragalge lines. Is it ok with all of you guys? Is there a template for Pokémon species?

EDIT

Skrelp Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Skrelp [#690]
  • Dragalge [#691]

Appearance

Skrelp is a small marine Pokémon with similarities to the Horsea line found in several oceans around the globe. Skrelp's tail ends in three small brown fins similar in shape to leaves. Its belly along with its face is the same shade of purple and it has a leathery brown hide that protects its back and head, with a blunt spike emerging from its back. It swims with a combination of two small, round and clear pectoral fins and its tail. Skrelp has a rounded, upwards-pointing snout and two round, reddish eyes with small black pupils. A clear, roundish growth emerges from the back of its head, similar to its pectoral fins.

Dragalge is much larger but retains vague seahorse characteristics. A healthy, fully-grown Dragalge is around the size of an average human adult. Its body has a strange curve that makes it vaguely ressemble the number 3. Like Skrelp, Dragalge has a dull purple body and a brown leathery hide. The clear roundish fins of the Skrelp stage are replaced by dull brown, long fins resembling rotten kelp. The tail fin is similar to the Skrelp stage, but much larger. Dragalge's snout is now long, pointy, and brown, its eyes are red with a dark pupil. Dragalge has long sea-weed like growths on the side of its head and its back. Its head is adorned by a mane of red and green rotting kelp.

Rare individuals exhibit different coloration due to genetic mutation. The brown hide takes on a deep purple coloration and the normally purple body becomes deep blue. In the Dragalge stage the red kelp will be green instead and the green kelp will be yellow.

Notable Biology

The Skrelp line is infamous for its ability to naturally produce extremely potent toxins and acids. They are very territorial and do not hesitate to expel their toxins at whatever intrudes on their territory. The poison and acid of a Skrelp is weaker, their acid will causes painful burns, but with proper treatment they will heal with no problem. Their poison is dangerous only to small children and Pokémon, the sick, the elderly and those with weak immune systems. A healthy adult human or any bulky enough Pokémon will eventually filter the poison through his or her system and make a full recovery. Dragalge's poison and acid is much more frightening. The poison can kill a fully grown human male in minutes unless antidote is administered. Their acid is incredibly corrosive and can eat through virtually anything, steel, iron, rock, skin, flesh, bone... They possess specialized glands throughout their entire bodies that produce their toxins, and their mouth and throat is able to propel it at great length, speed and more frighteningly, accuracy, at whatever threatens the member of this evolutionary line, or whatever it fancies for dinner. The same organs also allow them to propel water, which is useful in combat for trainers who want a Dragalge or Skrelp that knows a wide variety of attacks.

Both evolutionary stages can easily pass for masses of rotting, drifting kelp. They hide in forests of kelp where they are virtually undetectable, lying in wait for prey to come. Since they are rather slow swimmers, they will often hide motionlessly in drifting kelp and travel wherever the current takes them with no one being the wiser.

The bodies of both Skrelp and Dragalge are covered in small but sharp toxic barbs that can inject venom. This makes them extremely dangerous in close combat.

Diet

Skrelp and Dragalge are both omnivorous. Skrelp will generally absorb plankton through its mouth, and may occasionally vomit its own acid to slowly liquefy seaweed into a more easily absorbable format.

Dragalge generally disdain plankton, and will instead vomit acid to dissolve plant matter or prey and then swallow the resulting messy goop.

Habitat

This evolutionary line is generally found in the ocean to the West of Kalos, generally around Route 8. A small population was also spotted in Southwestern Hoenn. Skrelps and Dragalges prefer warm salt water, but can tolerate more temperate oceans or fresh water.

The most famous Skrelp and Dragalge habitat is the wreckage of the S.S Cussler, off the Muraille Coast in Kalos. After the ship collided with an iceberg and sunk, it was inhabited by pods of Dragalges, who used their acid to fuse it with other wrecks that had drifted there over the years thanks to sea currents. The mythical ship was once considered loss, until it was rediscovered by two Marine biologists who had made it their life goal to discover the wreckage. Their submarine expedition also gather the largest amount of data on the Skrelp line in history. After an incident where a squad of Team Rocket grunts tried to loot the safe of the S.S Cussler, the entire site was made a National Preserve by the Kalos government, and unauthorized access can be met with heavy fines... and the wrath of the Dragalges.

Hazards

Individual Skrelps pose no major threat to human adults and most Pokémon and will generally flee if antagonized, only using their poison and acid as a last resort. Skrelp venom will generally leave a burning sensation at the injection site and cause nausea, fatigue and headaches, which generally subsidizes after an hour or two. Similarly, the acid will cause intense burning pain should it come in contact with skin, but the burns rarely go deeper than the first degree. Proper first aid should involve cleaning and disinfecting the burn site and covering it with bandages. If the acid is ingested or falls in the eyes or the genitalia region, seek medical attention immediately. Grass and Fairy-types Pokémon, smaller Pokémon, young children, the elderly, the sick and pregnant women should be wary of Skrelp poison, and use an antidote in case of contact, then immediately seek medical attention.

The Dragalge stage is much more dangerous than the Skrelp stage, but is thankfully territorial and will not attack if it is left alone. In case of poisoning, an antidote MUST be administered immediately. Acid attacks will cause at minimum third degree burns, and it is not rare for Dragalge acid to melt away entire limbs and organs, not even leaving bone behind. Care should be taken to avoid areas with high density of kelp, as this is where Dragalges make their nests.

Courtship and Childrearing

The line gains sexual maturity in the Dragalge state. Dragalges mate for life and stay in small family pods. During mating season, the female Dragalge will produce a large number of eggs, up to a hundred, and deposit them in the brood pouch of the male Dragalge, who will fertilize the eggs with his sperm. The weaker eggs are absorbed by the male Dragalge while the rest hatch after around 2 months. Less than 10% of the eggs survive. When they hatch, they remain for another month in the brood pouch of the Dragalge, where their father feeds them by releasing nutrients in the pouch. The male Dragalge will stay in the nest until he gives live birth, while the female hunts and protects the nest. Baby Skrelps stay with their parents for a few years, gathering energy for their evolution, leaving shortly before they enter the Dragalge state. The offspring who refuses to leave the nest will fight with its parents for dominance, often with lethal results for the youngster.

In Human Society

Skrelp and its evolution have a very poor reputation with humans for their repulsive appearance and their dangerous nature, although some people have reported finding Skrelp oddly endearing . Tales are told by sailors of ships who ventured into Dragalge territory, never to be heard from again. While there have been confirmed cases of ships sunk by Dragalges, most of these disappearances can be chalked up to more mundane cases like bad weather or incompetent captains.

Dragalge are smart creatures who are fully aware of the inedible nature of ships, and will only spit their acid at ships if they feel that the ship threatens them, their nest or their family. Sailors who venture off the Muraille coast quickly learn to give kelp-heavy areas a wide berth.

During various ancient wars, military sailors often lured - or outright captured and released - wild Dragalges into strategically important water ways, denying access to this area to the enemy. The problem with this strategy is, just like fire, Dragalges have no loyalty and will attack any ship that enters their territory, not just the ones of the enemy, and they will remain a threat to navigation long after the conflict is over. To get around this, various Admirals and strategists have suggested training Dragalges en-masse to only attack the ships of one faction in particular. These proposals generally goes nowhere, due to the rarity of armed conflicts in the modern age, not to mention that sea mines are much cheaper and also get the job done.

A popular science-fiction role-playing video game video game published recently had a race of hyper-advanced alien machines modeled after Dragalges called Harvesters who appeared every 50 000 years to exterminate all advanced life in the galaxy. The player, a highly-decorated elite commando, would assemble a crew of various aliens and Pokémon to fight the Harvester threat in his spaceship, the Northern Kalos.

Trainers Notes

The Skrelp line is not recommended for anything else than advanced trainers. They are difficult and dangerous to capture in the wild and will never fully adapt to human captivity unless they were born into it. A domesticated Dragalge is fairly docile and makes a good companion, but they have intensive requirements, notably in food and salt water. They are however very intelligent and can be trained by a patient, and equally intelligent master. Most jurisdictions outlaw, or at least heavily regulate the ownership of Skrelps and Dragalges, due to the justified fear of poisoning or acid damage. A fully domesticated Dragalge will consider his trainer and his family and home as its own and will aggressively defend it, leading to tragic incidents where mailmen, neighborhood Pokémon, innocent children and home invaders were melted alive because they stepped foot on the lawn of a house that had an improperly trained Dragalge.

Extra care should be taken when handling Skrelps and Dragalges. They have no control over their poisonous barbs and can accidentally poison whoever touched them. Several Dragalges have entered deep depression and lost the will to live after their trainers or any other innocent human or Pokémon pricked themselves on their barbs and died immediately afterwards, with the Dragalge being powerless to help. Trainers who keep Dragalges generally have their barbs surgically removed, but this procedure is rare as it reduce a Dragalge's combat effectiveness, and few Pokémon Centers are willing to carry out the procedure for ethical and safety reasons. Others use specially made protective gloves to avoid being pricked and will take a special potion beforehand to increase the time they have to live just in case they are pricked so they have time to take the necessary antidote.

Here are some random things...

"When Glameow evolve, they develop a body packed with layers of fat and brawn; and though it may not seem like it, especially in their legs- only being covered by a tiny layer of fat. The added fact that they have large adrenal glands for their sizes, this is the ability that makes them quite amazingly fast to the speed of a Scolipede, and if tried can jump almost as far as a Rapidash."

OR

"When Glameow evolve, unfortunate genetic defect happen. As they grow and have their brains size legthened greatly (Often compared to a Murkrow to Honchkrow.), more of useful camoflauge for hunting down, their body sizes...

Glameow are one of those very active Pokemon that need a definate constant meal because, very often for any typical big brutish Pokemon, they need to conserve and produce vast energy to have the intensive power, otherwise, the Pokemon will be a mere shadow of what it will be, as well as being heavily non-healthy, typically sluggish and tired, and say, not even have the power to evolve at all.

As said for the genetic defect, Glameow's energy "splatters" its outer appearance; turning (slightly the face, and maybe the tail) its body overly bulky and bursting in all places, making the evolution look overweight."

"When Patrat evolve, their arrogance and bravery simply cannot feel or get the need to fit into their younger, paranoid brethen colonies. They say goodbye to their colony and become solitary. However, they have been known to happily form "Glaring Gangs" for their instinctual social and on-guard natures. Good typical bonds are made."

OR

When Patrat evolves, naturally becoming braver, intelligent, more serious, and 'in command', it's not a surprise the rare Watchog are apart of Patrat community and treated like a respected authority, nor the fact Watchog heavily lower the deaths of Patrat of having serperior eyesight, faster reaction time, and more decent power and capabilities. Ones that miss their daily food of Patrat are quite persistent, and try their best to quickly kill of Watchog."

"While most cats are attracted to shiny, interesting things, Purrloin seem to be attracted to actually taking them, and seeing a negative reaction. The reason is heavily because of the fact they can sense Dark/negative emotions directed toward them, and once they absorb it, it instantly releases a vast load of endorphins, making them very excited and full of joy."

OR simply

Purrloin seem to be attracted to actually stealing things, making them release high amounts of endorphins, making them full if joy."

I'm wondering what people might specifically like.

Flabébé Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Flabébé [#669]
  • Floette [#670]
  • Florges [#671]

Appearance

Flabébé is a tiny, white pokemon with a spherical head that makes up a good half of its height. A yellowish "crown" of pollen spheres encircle the top of the head, while a notched pair of triangular ears extend sideways from either side. The creature's face has beady eyes, visible red spots, and a tiny but prominent nose; while there does seem to be a vestigial mouth, it is generally only used to make small peeping noises when the creature feels the need to express itself. The lower body is comprised of a small orb with two tiny arms and a tail; a jagged line exists around the waist, with everything below it being green (or blue, in a minority population).

Floette are twice as tall as their pre-evolution, though most of that height is gained by their lower body growing longer and thinner. The crown of pollen spheres have migrated to two rings around the base of the ears, which have lengthened slightly; the tiny nose has all but vanished, and their mouth is now often open to communicate in gentle squeaking. Floette gain a small layer of fuzz atop their head, giving them the semblance of hair, and two thick antennaebrows the same color of their lower body now grow above their eyes. Their arms have lengthened and sport visible hands, and the end of the tail now has a heart-shaped spadelike feature. The lower pattern of the Floette has darkened and extended two triangular 'flaps' over the creature's chest; like Flabébé this portion is usually green, but remains blue in certain individuals.

Floette only evolve when exposed to the Shiny Stone, which itself is rare and hard to find. Once they do, however, they become Florges, jumping to a little over half human height and taking proportions more akin to that of humans themselves. A Florges has lost all pollen from their facial structure, but gained a prominent pointed nose; both their ears and their brow antennae grow to a considerable length, with even the creature's eyelids developing shading akin to the lower body. A small disc grows around the creature's neck, the same color as the body covering; just beneath that are visible shoulders and thin, elegant arms ending in three tiny fingers each. The covering itself has extended both up and down, now enveloping not only the majority of Florges' torso but also the entirety of longer, curvier portion below the waist; as before, it has darkened, remaining green in the majority of the population and violet in a minority. Two black petals are now over the front of the chest (blue colored in purple individuals), and the tip of the tail has developed into a complex structure; there appear to be two tiny feet facing forward and a complex leaflike pair of flippers angled backwards.

Notably, the Flabébé line lives and evolves in symbiosis with the Fairy Flower, a dicotyledon plant that appears unique to the Kalos region. These flowers generally reside among groups of other flowers, their five petals mimicking the colors of those around them; the majority of fairy flowers are red, yellow, or blue, although mutant white and orange breeds have been spotted. Flabébé will rest atop these flowers, clinging to their large stamen; Floette will carry members of these flowers around, while Florges cultivate large drooping collections around their neck alongside a few other species of flowers. For reasons unclear, a flower carried by these pokemon rarely dies, even when plucked from their roots.

There is one unique exception to the above symbiosis; a Floette known to be owned by a former Kalos king prefers a six-petaled flower with red and black patterning. This Floette sports the rare blue coloration, as well as uniquely red pollen rings around its ears; whether this is due to their flower having red pollen or other circumstances is entirely unknown.

Notable Biology

As stated above, the Flabébé line lives in symbiosis with the Fairy Flower, tending to it and acting as a pollinator for the species as a whole; in return, the flower is utilized as both a home and a source of power in case of danger. This symbiosis is so intrinsic that many people falsely believe the flower is part of Flabébé's body, or the male of the species; both these theories have been disproven scientifically, although separation of a Flabébé or Florette from its flower results in very serious depression, and separation of Florges from their garden results in very severe injuries.

The Flabébé line is so skilled in floral tending, in fact, that entire gardens can be found under their domain, protected from disease and decay. This extends to grass-type pokemon; in group combat, most (though not all) negative status effects applied to grass-type allies are neutralized by the efforts of Flabébé and its evolutions. The Floette population in the Kalos friend safari has not had to exercise this ability toward their own gardens, as they are tended to by humans; their instinct, instead, is to hand off anything they're holding to a friend who is empty-handed; this can be done surprisingly quickly.

Habitat

Flabébé and its evolutions tend to be attracted to collections of various plants, usually residing in gardens with fairy flowers. Flabébé can be found on both route 4 and route 7 of Kalos, generally tending to their flowers under the guidance of Floette. A large captive population is tended to by the Pokemon Friend Safari in Kalos; the Flabébé are kept away from the public, with only Floette being allowed in the open gardens. Florges are rare, but present, wherever their pre-evolutions reside.

Diet

Flabébé and its evolutions are nectarivorous, with most of their physical diet coming from the fairy flower plant (although there are exceptions). They also subsist off positive emotion, generally preferring to lap off the good cheer and joy from those who visit their gardens. Trainers should take care to ensure their health by allowing them frequent visits to botanical gardens, parks, or other places where the beauty of nature is appreciated.

Hazards

The Flabébé is generally not aggressive, and quite friendly to visitors and outsiders. While they, as with all pokemon, are capable of dangerous attacks—especially considering their knowledge of plantlife and its effects—it is incredibly unlikely for them to anything but the harshest of treatments with anything other than confusion and determination to help their tormentor feel better. However, there remains the face that Flabébé and its evolutions make friends incredibly easily, and across a wide band of potential pokemon; any serious attempt to harm this line is usually met with very hostile reactions from those who enjoy the gardens, which generally ends in hospitalization. One sure way to upset a Flabébé or Floette is to separate it from its flower; similarly, Florges will react to being taken from their garden with varying degrees of anger, depending on how forceful their ejection was, and unlike their pre-evolution will actively seek out assistance in returning.

Social Structure

Flabébé and its evolutions have a very loose and informal social structure. Generally, older and more evolved individuals are given deference and allowed to command the younger ones in an attempt to direct their part of the garden toward whatever ends they want. All gardens have at least one Florges at the top, either being the original founder or having evolved in that garden; occasionally, a Florges will set out to create a new garden with their own followers, although it is unclear when this happens and what the success rate is.

Notably, the Flabébé line includes other pokemon and, occasionally, humans in its informal ranks. If a creature helps the garden in any way, it can be directed by Flabébé or its evolutions, although there is usually an exchange of some sort (such as fruit or territory).

Courting and Childrearing

Flabébé and their evolutions are all female, requiring them to go outside their species to mate. Due to their minuscule nature, Flabébé themselves are rarely given a glance (despite being sexually mature); it is Florette and Florges that usually seek out fathers for their children, and they usually do so as an extension of incorporating other pokemon into their gardens. Eggs are usually placed in collections of fairy flowers, and Flabébé hatched are tended to by locals until they are able to join the garden hierchy.

In Human Society

Most myths in Kalos regarding the Flabébé have them as innocent, friendly garden types, with their evolutions having similar reputations. There was a historical trend of the rich and powerful 'hiring' Florges to arrange their gardens into beautiful collections of flowers. Beyond that, the most famous story involves an ancient king; a Floette he befriended died in a war and, his heart broken, he set about creating a way to resurrect her. However, the device he made eventually became a weapon; the Floette, disgusted at the death of so many pokemon, left him, only to return centuries later when he redeemed himself. This Floette is always portrayed bearing a unique flower and having a unique appearance.

EDIT: Also, I've added most of the Alolan mons to the PEFE Index, but I figure we should probably do our usual "no articles until the third version/sequels if there's gonna be one" for the box legend trio and the Ultra Beasts.

Also, with pretty much every Pokédex article in the game having at least some new information on old Pokémon, we're probably gonna be pretty busy this Gen.

While I'm aware that this Pokedex only uses information from the various canon sources, I'd like to bring up something that occurred to me a few nights ago: are we missing a step in regards to the origins of the Pokemon world and the nature of the Legendaries? We know that Arceus created Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina to build the universe and Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf to grant knowledge, sentience, and sapience to all living beings but what about the rest? Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, and Regigias built the planet but where did they come from? They didn't just sprout out of the ground, did they? Were they also created by Arceus or is there something else in between that created the lower level Legendaries?

wild mass guessArceus was the one who created the most powerful of the Legendaries. First Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina to help create the fabric of reality; followed by Rayquaza, Groudon, and Kyogre to create the Earth itself; Xerneas and Yveltal to govern Life and Death itself with Zygarde acting as the balancing agent; Regigas to shape the continents into order; and lastly Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf to provide sentience and sapience to the inhabitants.

Aside from the the Regis, whom were probably created by Regigigas as helpers, all other Legendaries are either animals whom ascended to Godhood in some fashion, byproducts of the forces that created the world, and/or just really, really powerful creatures of varying origins.wild mass guess

I'd say that question is beyond the scope of this project. There's no way to answer it based on what is presented in any of the Pokemon media, and while we do make stuff up for the Extended Fanon Pokedex, there has to be at least some grounding in the canon.

Personally, I like to leave the issue of whether Arceus actually created the world and/or the universe ambiguous. True, it's an incredibly powerful creature and was worshipped as a god in Sinnoh, but is it actually divine? We don't know. Did Regigigas really move the continents into their current positions, or was that just a myth attributed to it because of its immense strength? We don't know.

To me, these are questions that should not have a definitive answer because that would take away the mystery surrounding Legendary Pokemon. (he says, despite having written exhaustive articles about various Legendaries like Zekrom and Groudon)
