It's the world of Drakenier, it would be screwed either way.

It's been 3000 years…

At least they aren't dealing with Continously evolving monstrosities that devour everything in their path. Even the Androids from Automata probably aren't advanced enough to kill them fast enough before they evolve countermeasures against their tech.

My idea is that the Maso brought to Modern Earth in Nier from Drakengard woke up the Oracle cells that the Aragami are made of, and they do their best to Devour the Maso in the atmosphere and give the Red Eyed Legion an unexpected surprise. The Spikes of Calamity from the anime and Code Vein also ruin the Queen Grotesquierie's attempt at turning everything into salt because half the populatation she intended to kill dies instantly.

Magic would likely have an easier time since Chlorination is also magical in nature, the Aragami are not magic.

The Aragami can adapt to anything, so even Magic might not be a sure in to keep things going.

Hell, the Revenants of Code Vein practically use magic, but are pretty much weaklings compared to their God Eater counterpats in every other category other then physical strength.

That said, I'm sure their are plenty of people that have made 2B or Brother Nier in the character creator for Code Vein.

They wsre also not allowed to evolve to combat them, which the resident Mad Scientist points out. Originally they beat the Aragami to the point they were completely expelled, and none have not bypassed the barrier separating the city from the rest of the world. Not to mention the nature of the Final Boss potentially means she could hijack the Aragami.

Now that 2020 is here I wonder when Yoko's new project is going to get announced. We know more or less there's something in the works, but I don't think anything has been worked on long enough to be released this year, cool as it would be to coincide with the anniversary.

Been 3 years since Nier Automata was released, and While Takahisa Taura directed Astral Chain, him helping out on Yoko Taro's next project on the side like before isn't out of the question.

[up][up] True. But now the idea of Chloronation Aragami, IE, Aragami that can weaponize WCS into an attack sounds horrifying.

I went to the orchestra concert tonight and goddamn I got my money's worth

Going to bullet point my thoughts

  • Literally all the merchandise sold out before the second run of the concert started and the only things left by the end were boxes of Distant World concert CDs they had for some reason. I uh bought Distant Worlds V partially because I wanted something to remember this by and I couldn't even get a lousy t-shirt, and also because I think it's cheaper than it was online.
  • The Framing Device is that typical Yoko Taro punch in the feels as Emil does the cute in-character warning to not disturb the audience during the performance, and then it turns out that the entire Gestalt part is framed by Emil struggling to remember the events of the game and wishing his friends were still here. sad
  • 2B is the Framing Device for Automata where she has a bunch of personal records as 2E.
  • The "No Talking or Phones" Warning was cute though, 2B treats the concert as if it's YoRHa personnel watching, and Emil sings his song as an opener.
  • Yoko stuck to his words, daddy Nier has no rights
  • Was it already established that 2B met 9S 47 times before Automata? Because that was a thing mentioned in the concert.
  • They switched around the order of tracks in comparison with the official recordings on cd. As far as I can tell, they completely skipped over Dark Colossus and moved Kainé to last for Emi Evans to sing. I think it was so there was an even 10 for both parts.
  • IMO I think Gestalt was consistently stronger overall, the visuals had the right pop (it helps they seemed concerned about Nier's not exactly great graphics in video and made up for that with gorgeous artwork of the game's various vistas) and saved the vocals for maximum impact.
  • Like Snow in Summer and Gods Bound By Rules sounds absolutely amazing live because the former starts with vocals and then slowly downplays them as they reveal the ruined Tokyo while the latter only starts vocals when they show *that* moment with Fyra in the Time Skip.
  • I kinda wish Ashes of Dreams got vocals but I honestly can't complain too much because using Kainé as the ending to Emil's narration is probably superior since Ashes of Dreams is more a song about Nier and Yonah.
  • My hot take is Automata songs leaned way too heavily on vocals with only technically Sound of the End (they had only the female half of choir singers for that) and City Ruins, so they didn't feel like the special treat as it was for Gestalt.
  • Also I thought the Automata visuals were a bit more on the mediocre side? Like I get the intent but having multiple pictures of Pascal floating around because they ran out of friendly machine NPCs to show off was silly.
  • However, showing visuals of modern humanity for Alien Manifestation felt like it was a comment on how the androids and machines would react to humans.
  • Evans sang Weight of the World: Nouveau-FR as a solo, it was probably the best of the Automata part, especially with the rapid-fire logs by the Pods and as it slowly showed 153 and 042 diverging in their logic but coming to the same conclusion (the part that I remember most is 042 thinks they're all collectively trapped in the past and 153 is more concerned about a terrible future). The transition from 2B's personal record format to a unique title card solely for this song helped as well.
  • They played Shadowlord with vocals for an encore which was great. 2B and Emil actually came together in the narration to talk about their hopes and desires.
  • Yoko Taro did his usual spiel about Square Enix being crazy to fund these projects lmao. He basically clung to Yosuke Saito as if to protect him from the crazy fans when he came on stage. Saito had to hold the microphone to his mask the whole time.
  • Keiichi Okabe took Yoko's mask off-stage during the curtain call and carried it around like his trophy lmao
  • They ended with the note that they'll try to do more concerts in London and Europe in general, Okabe was really excited since it was his first time in London, first time having Nier being performed in London, and first time doing a Nier world tour (He also thought the Shard was the UK's equivalent of the Tower [lol]). Evans seemed really happy to perform Nier in her home country and wants to do this again some time.
  • Emil and 2B had a cute comedy segment at the very end where Emil/Mai Kadowaki was told by a Squenix executive to tell the audience to go buy merch (which Yoko mentioned earlier during his ending address because Square Enix needs that cash to be convinced that Yoko Taro should keep working), which was pretty ironic given how it was already pretty much sold out.

Platinum's doing a spooky tease for something with a 4...

There's sparkles and a "4" that glitches on and off. Maybe it's something to do with NieR and/or Drakengard? But isn't there already a Drakengard 4?

OmegaRadiance Since: Jun, 2011

No. It was the initial concept for 3. 4 would skip the third game and it would be a plot point.

. . .

So Drakengard 3 would've actually been Drakengard 4 and there would have been a reason why they skipped 3?

I'm so confused.

https://www.gematsu.com/2020/03/sinoalice-launches-july-1-in-the-west

Only tangentially related, but Yoko Taro's mobile game got dropped by Nexon so the original devs have decided to just publish it in the west themselves and announced the special two-part Nier crossover that he wrote as one of the big launch hooks.

I've seen translations of the Automata bit, but not the Replicant crossover so I guess I'll pick it up for that and maybe Mikhail if they ever do Drakengard 3. Hopefully the localization is Another Eden/Dragalia Lost tier when it comes to its initial launch.

I had a feeling they were going to release something like this.

Please don't suck, also give me a chapter select or SOMETHING so I don't have to play the second half three times to see ending C/D.

So apparently, Okabe re-recorded his songs for the remaster and there are a few new ones. I'm also hearing that there's a new character, and 2B and 9S's japanese voice actors confirmed on a stream that they have small roles in the game.

Yosuke Saito was also asked if there was a new ending and he said "I don't know". It's possible that ending E is in this, I'd probably just expect it to be present via text but since this remaster seems more thorough than I thought perhaps that won't be the case.

Also hoping that this runs at 60FPS.

Also a closer look at the concept art shows it's actually a younger Kainé? Wonder what this is about.

wow I can't wait for Yoko Taro's lore gacha 2: electric boogaloo

Crossing fingers that they get most of the original dub cast for Replicant (I mean, they're probably gonna get someone new for Brother Nier, but if Squenix can shell out enough cash to get everyone back for Dissidia NT, then they should get Bailey back for Kainé)
THIS DREAM RE-RECORDING HELL YEAH

It and Incomplete Stone are my favorite bgm that haven't gotten any kind of rearrangement even after the dozens of Squenix rearrangment albums so I'm super happy about that.

I'm hoping it's not a gacha game. After Sino Alice went so well, you'd think they would reconsider.

Applibot's portfolio is like a mix of gacha and non-gacha but on the other hand all of Squenix's mobile stuff that aren't ports are all gacha so I'm not raising my hopes.
