It'll be best if we find something else to talk about. This is no place to discuss Rowling's political views.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportDoes anyone else keep forgetting that Astronomy is one of the core classes at Hogwarts?
‘My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’Aside from one troper, i don't see many people here defending Rowling.
What use would Astronomy have for Wizards? It ain't like FF XIV where the stars are important for Astrologian magic.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Astrology is a lot like Muggle Math, where a basic knowledge of it is necessary for other fields.
The three other Hogwarts classes I can think of the top of my head that need it are Potions, Herbology, and Divination.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Well i remember that certain potions are affected by the moon, and Divination is a given, but Herbology?

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. For some reason, I thought mandrake's phases were tied to the moon for some reason.
That being said, I wouldn't doubt there being some sort of plant being tied to the moon phases or even some stars.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."I've thumped the entire conversation. Debates about an author's personal beliefs in a thread on their works are seldom a good idea and this one very much shows why. Also, ~Kickisan, the rules about bigotry on the forum are not there for decoration. We don't want transphobic commentary on the forum at all.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWere there other centaurs besides Firenze in the series? I feel like there were but for the life of me can't remember their names.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I can remember Bane off the top of my head, but I looked it up and there were two others named in the Books. Ronan and Magorian.
Basically the tl;dr is Death of the Author, let's move on
I've been wondering, how well would a guy like Draco fare when placed into the role of Harry Potter?
Like he has full memories of his life as Draco but suddenly is living Harry's life from the start of chapter 2 of Philosopher's stone.
Considering jealousy is what motivates our favorite white supremacist I MEAN pure blood supremacist, this would be interesting to think about.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Well for one thing there is zero chance of him getting the stone out of the Mirror of Erised so that changes a lot re: Voldemorts plans
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I would wonder how Draco would feel upon meeting Dudley and the rest of the Dursleys.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Disgust mixed with a sense of vindication for his bigotry.
Disgusted, but not surprisedIt would be interesting to see Draco actually on the other side of being bullied and utterly helpless without his magic.
Now imagine the rest of the events playing out exactly as they do in canon despite Draco's attitude.
Like somehow becoming friends with Hermione and Ron despite utterly hating them and that his insults seem to go over their heads. Or he keeps foiling Voldemort's plans despite trying his best to join him.
Then Harry has Draco's life and Draco has to experience being the one bullied by the snooty magic elitist.
This isn't a Draco redemption story(Ugggh) But it would be interesting to see him somewhat humbled.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. It would feel forced and artificial though, since it would require people to act as if they were being railroaded in following canon beats. Why the hell would Hermione or Ron be friends with Draco if he acted the same way?
If anything, Draco would find the whole thing creepy.
Also, a Draco redemption story would be redundant. Since in canon he already does become redeemed. He makes a point of not raising his own child to be a bigot.
Draco's canon redemption started the moment he refused to actually kill Dumbledore in Book 6. That also causes a shift in how Harry sees Draco. This leads to Harry's efforts to save Draco in the last book, which leads to Draco's mother Narcissa helping Harry and sealing Tom's fate in the process.

How much you wanna bet that's already a fanfic?
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I was thinking it would be more of a comedy really.
Like Harry Potter and the Something Something.
Probably, Harry Potter Fanfiction is a pathway to many stories, some consider to be unnatural.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. Now you're mixing fandoms. Which admittedly is something fanfic does a lot of. (I'm sure there are plenty of Star Wars and Potter fic out there...)
I'm imagining a variant where Harry and Draco get their lives switched halfway through book two as you said above... and figure out what's happened to each other, but don't really want their friends to know and have hope they can figure out how to switch back before they notice. So they actually have to work together.
...My mind may be weird.
So, hypothetically speaking, say there was a Massive Multiplayer Crossover video game featuring characters from various children's books, with the intent of the game becoming a celebration of the medium as a whole in the same way Super Smash Bros has become to gaming, or Super Robot Wars has become to the Humongous Mecha genre, etc.
In light of recent events, would it be okay to include the Harry Potter franchise in something like this? On one hand, JKR doesn't deserve support anymore, but on the other hand, Harry Potter is, y'know, Harry Potter, and on some level, excluding it feels more like punishing the fanbase for the author's shitty viewpoints. And you know a lot of people wouldn't care and just complain about Harry Potter's exclusion regardless of the reason.
Would it be more acceptable to have Harry Potter in it if this was just a fangame, meaning that JKR wouldn't get any compensation for it (even though that would mean no other author from any of the other represented books would get anything either)? And that's assuming the fangame doesn't receive a C&D order.
https://www.fanfiction.net/u/548347/Ehhh, doesn't sound like a good idea. And additionally if it's to celebrate children's stories, making it a video game would be missing the point.
As for Rowling, sweet jesus, it feels like people are ganging up on the fanbase for liking the books because of JK Rowling's shitty twitter rants making it seem that liking the books makes you a homo and transphobic person.

Disgusted, but not surprisedEhhh, as long as we talk about the state of the Harry Potter fandom instead of Rowling's politics, i think we should be fine.
Like sure what she said was shitty, but it doesn't change i've had good times with this franchise and am not pretending it was always terrible and racist.
