I wish it was more like the thing where sometimes an audio line can be triggered so it interrupts another. "G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-GE-G-G-G-G-GET U-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-GET UP ON THE HYDRA'S BAC-G-G-G-G-G-G-"

and then it would crash

Game Awards in 3 days. I wouldn't expect KH news though since we already get two trailers and a Japanese cinema trailer later down the line. But, I might get DMCV and Bayonetta 3 news.

Gotta love that I was away for a while after my last post, OmegaRadiance came back in with his hate-on for Kairi and insisting that she's not gonna do anything...and then we get Kairi combat renders that basically confirm she's either playable or a party member (Alyson Stoner also basically did online, saying KH3 was "the most fun" KH game for her and "you'll see why".)

Speaking of which:

OmegaRadiance: Wasn't there going to be a side game with playable Kairi thet was dropped? Would have been the perfect chance to have her finally get something. But I expect her to do as well as she did in the KHII cutscenes with a Keyblade since she can't have anything of import to add in the games past I.

1. No, there wasn't.

2. As well as she did - which was one-shotting two Shadows and killing a lot more off-screen. And if you're referring to the moment where she was shown swinging at a Shadow and missing, I must remind you that Riku did too in that same scene - in fact, he was even more embarrassing since he swings twice and the Shadow just jumps over him both times. See for yourself.

But then, Riku's got a dick, so of course you don't joke about that.

3. In KHII, Kairi made possible Sora and co. finding the way to The World That Never Was, Sora and Riku reuniting and Riku sticking around to return to his regular form, and Sora and Riku surviving instead of fading into darkness on that beach. That's pretty damn important.

It's exactly like KarkatTheDalek says: Honestly, this perception of Kairi as incompetent doesn’t have that much basis - she’s just been Out of Focus. Mercifully, that is finally changing, so you've got nothing more to bitch about here unless you just hate Kairi for no good reason.

I confess to some confusion about why me posting a thing about Roxas learning that he didn't have the right to exist was followed up by several people explaining that, in fact, Roxas didn't have the right to exist.

Are we seriously saying that "I guess my summer vacation is... over" isn't supposed to be tragic?
Let's just take a moment to appreciate how completely bonkers that question sounds out of context.

Like, 0.2 is pretty blatantly a story about depression and Mickey Mouse is in it.

@rikalous: I totally think he did have a right to exist but the "heroes" treated all Nobodies as inhuman abominations even when they clearly were showing emotions and not just Roxas.

Which of course with the later games meant they only helped further Xehanorts plans all along because denying they had hearts made it easier for Nobodies to not grow new hearts so they could be Norted.

But Im not surprised. Yen Sid as bad as Eraqus at teaching and being a puppet doing what Xehanort wants.

I mean its hard to sympathize of with a sinister cult of identically dressed men who among other things kidnap, clone, murder, brainwash, release monsters into the public, turn people to heartless. And then when you confront them about it they tend to wax philosophically about how they discarded hearts because love made them weak or held them back or that it gives them insight in how to hurt people and that they feel nothing and give no shits about how much of a dick they are.

Like I get that they are tragic cuz they where lied to and have no hearts and such but Yen Sid and Sora have no real reason to treat them any better then what they got.

I think the problem is more that the narrative never acknowledges or reflects on the change once relevant information comes to light. Things change and... there's never a 'Oh. I was kind of wrong' moment.

I think that's the snag everyone gets about it. I don't mind STARTING at that point, but Sora hangs onto that "You guys don't deserve to exist" argument a lot longer than needed and is even often his go to attack compared to more logically pointed attacks that... We really should have had some self-reflection.

OmegaRadiance Since: Jun, 2011

And there are even visible scenes where he shows he feels bad for them during the more emotional ends of certain Nobodies but then goes right back to "You don't have hearts!" Three seconds later.

Riku even basically said "We don't hate you because you're Nobodies, we hate you because you're assholes" at one point.

Sure, but I was talking about what happens to Roxas being tragic even in the isolated narrative of KHII, which means accepting its presentation of "Nobodies don't have a right to exist" as a valid claim.

[up]x6

Not even consideration that, as bad and terrible as their actions were, he didn't help people that clearly were in need of help? Particualy consdering the revelations of characters like Namine, Roxas, and Xion? (Yes, I know she's not a Nobody, but missing the point). Some introspection that, sure Sora didn't have the right info at the time, nor did even the nobodies themselves, maybe he could have handled the situation differently with that in mind?

That could create genuinely good character conflict and depth.

[up]x3

Which it too little too late by that point.

I think its a writing fallacy issue. Nobodies and Org 13 are too integrated since All Nobodies are Part of Org 13. Namine is the only exception and not really explored further. So, the characters SHOULD be calling out "You're terrible because your organization sucks" and not calling out their state of being, but since the terms basically became interchangable at a certain point, the destinction was lost.

Or, to put it shorter, "Org 13 is bad. All Nobodies are Org 13. All nobodies are bad" is the logic, when that's seemingly not the case.

I do kind of wonder how it translates and if this might also be a localization thing. I doubt it is, but I'd be curious.

I mean its sort of like a weird line treating it as a race issue, since its more of a magical quasi-state of being/affliction of having no heart. There isn't really a lot of overlap besides not choosing to be that way (Maybe), but the way most of these Nobodies are treated are direct cause and effect of being awful and/or the tragic consequence of being missing parts to a whole person rather then "you are a disgusting sub-human."

Unless your Di Z anyway.

So like, Sora can feel bad about and help them but I don't really think anyone needs to apologize or reflect beyond. "Hey Roxas, sorry for your shit circumstances."

Which was kinda like what happened in 3D I guess?

Sora is The Heart of the series and defined by his compassion for others.

The Organization members, for all their bad actions, are ultimately a vulnerable group of people manipulated by the big bad into doing his bidding in order to regain "natural" state of being only to be corrupted and controled into vessels of pure evil.

Sora never really extends his compassion to them.

This is... honestly something that could be leveraged for some really good writing? Though... this is probably why I find KH 2 and beyond Sora to be rather boring and the least interesting in the cast. KH 1 Sora was happy, but confused, sad, compassionate, and curious. KH 2 Sora is... kind of just generically happy and flanderized in his compassion, and only ever seems to get angry at ANYONE when its an organization member.

Like, sure, he pulls out his sword and battle music plays for the boss fights, but he's still cool, collected, shooting quips, and "We'll get them next time" or whatever. He's so... passive elsewhere. He never really engages the worlds he visits. I mean, it kind of fits the latter game's problem of the worlds just kind of... being there and not really contributing story, but it does affect his character.

In KH 1, Sora got mad at Donald. He got sad when Riku disappeared. He was curious about the white rabbit. He was wonderous about flying and new life experiences on this adventure. He was hurt and confused by what Triton said about the Keyblade warriors (which, btw, never mentioned again).

I feel like he's the least interesting character. Riku? Character conflict. Axel? Character conflict. Roxas? Terra? Aqua? Ven? Xion? CHARACTER CONFLICTS! Kairi? Well... she's underdeveloped so its more of an appeal to needing development that she's so liked. Sora? Just... eh?
