X8 would be so much better if they kept the PS 1 checkpoint system. That lends itself better than the lives system does to all the insta kills they stuff in this game.

This is the most frustrating X game by far.

How this "level design" is considered more acceptable than X6 I have no clue.

I keep trying to give this game a chance, but I just hate it more and more each time I play.

I think, well like all Mmgames it'll get better with more power ups, right? But my only power so far is the crappy triglodyte guy.

Every other stage has too much BS on it and the mantis guy kills me forcing me to do his level all over again.

and I hate the ledge jumping in this game. It doesn't look right in 3D and as a result it feels unprecise and janky.

and why the hell can't I crouch?

Humid weather means that old man reploids like X and Zero are feeling the arthritis in their knees.

Axl just doesn't want to rub it in their faces so he also doesn't crouch.

Seriously though, iunno.

Most people are probably used to life systems from other Megaman games.

RockMan.EXE Episode 55:

This is Enzan's Day In The Limelight.

I have to admit, I didn't expect THAT coming from Enzan. Granted, I think he mellowed a bit during the PharaohMan.EXE Arc, but still.

Despite being not a fan of fillers, It was pretty much to see Enzan gaining some development, despite being a bit late-anime. And yes, Enzan is the vice=president of IPC. I think the I is from "Ijuuin" (Enzan's surname).

Another NetNavi showed up, and it's DrillMan.EXE. It was also nice to see other Robot Master-based Navi again.

Be honest, Netto and Enzan are rivals. Unfortunately, they're no different from other rivalries. No, I'm not talking about "nice hero against jerk rival", it's more like Relationship Writing Fumble (read: yaoi). Granted this is not the first time occuring in the Mega Man franchise as a whole, but at least X and Zero are Heterosexual Life-Partners. Netto and Enzan are not, at least, not at first). I think Netto ends up with Meiru while Enzan ends up single (poor guy).

Aside of that, the anime also confirm about the new PE Ts, basically a Sequel Hook to the second season.

And the last episode, as expected, no Grand Finale. Instead is an Ghostbusters-esque episode. The virus are breaking out to the real world.

1 episode to go. I'm already getting homesick...

So I'm playing X6, and it isn't as painful as I remember. My main complaint is that Zero takes about 5 years to sheathe his beam saber after an attack string.

I like that the most effective swordsmanship style is to constantly hop in place flailing with a sword.

Thats why Zero is the leader of the shinobi squad. Skills.

Why is optic sunflower's stage so bad.

why is blaze rooster's level bad?

why is yeti's so long?

why does the spike block room ruin the gravity level?

why is man o war period?

why is this game so goddang annoying?

I think I'm done with X8. I tried but this level design is the worst in the X series. Gimmicks galore, a ton of insta kills and cheap deaths, or badly paced to the point of being boring. It's like they tried to go for the variety thing X5/X6 did but did a terrible job and took the worst aspects of those levels and ran with it.

Actually no I'm not done. I want to see all the power ups and I do like some stuff about the game but actually playing it is like, the worst part. Thing is, it doesn't seem to get better.

Looking at all of these complaints about the X games is making me wonder if making a new X game would be such a good idea.

I'm playing X8 and don't really have any of the problems with it Vertigo seems to be having? While I agree that the game may have received undo praise because it came in after the contentous X6 and barely bearable/downright asinine X7, but I think it's just fine, if not particularly ground-breaking once the novelty of it being a 3D X game that doesn't control like complete ass wears thin. And even though I haven't gotten back into it yet (I want to finish X5 before getting to it), I still distinctly remember heavily disliking the stage design of X6 and neither X7 (aside from the cyber and air force stages) or X8 (so far) have made me nearly as frustrated.

Though I admittedly took a break from X8 after killing 3 Mavericks because X7 took a lot out of me and I wanted to finish Xenoblade 2.

Side question, but what's the opinion on the Xtreme GBC games? I just remembered I had bought them on my 3DS, but haven't played either (same with the Mega Man GB games that I bought) and was kind of wondering what their deal was. From what I recall, they were similar to the MM GB titles in that they mostly told original stories while combining bosses/stages from more than one title from the main games to make up the bulk of their gameplay.

I've heard people say that the second one is one of the better X games

I don't know about that really but the consensus is that it's a big step up from the first Xtreme and also Iris is there

People love Iris for some reason

I imagine it's because she's cute and was the first female Reploid we've seen. I really didn't think much of her even when X4 was new (she literally exists to be killed so Zero can angst and even my young self was coming to despise that trope at that time), except that she looked like she was on the verge of tears almost every time she was on screen. I was oddly more receptive to Alia even though all she did was talk at you over a radio in every game.

Speaking of her, I was surprised to learn that she actually showed up as a Net Navi in the Battle Network series (of which I've only played three games) and was apparently similarly tragic there. ...I should really get back into BN 4 on my Wii U...

There was a lot of potential in Iris being torn between her loyalty to Repliforce/her brother and her feelings for Zero

And there's some of that but the story presentation doesn't really allow her to live up to it fully so mostly she dies for manpain

Xtreme 2 is one of the first Mega Man games I played and I loved it to bits. It actually introduced the whole DNA Soul thing.

RockMan.EXE Episode 56

The last episode. Finally.

Despite the episode being a little irrelevant, being pretty much a Ghostbusters parody, the “Grand Finale” have some nice things:

  • They showed all of the three eyecatch variants in the same episode (the static one with Netto and RockMan.EXE, the other with Rush.EXE and the Mettaurs, and the “Shaki-n!” one).

  • Finally they showed Masa-san dressing up as Commander Beef.

  • There’s also a reference to Mega Man X, in which Commander Beef called a Dragon-like virus Magma Dragoon. No Hadoukens or Shoryukens through.

  • Netto and RockMan.EXE are side by side in the first time! So does the other NetNavis and their Operators.

  • The ending is not the same, the Ending theme (Showtaro Morikubo’s Begin The Try)is showed in the last moments of the episode. It also ended with “And the Adventure Continues”, as a Sequel Hook to the 2nd season/Axess.

And, so the anime ends. Decent beginning, Not-so-Decent ending. I mean, that’s the intention of putting fillers as the last episodes? Otherwise the first season of the anime is great, and worth to watching due to battles and (somewhat dated) technology concepts. See you for a good time... I’ll came with a review some day.

If they put the same care into X9 that they seem to be putting into 11, I think it'd turn out alright.

Or if they go the 9 route at make an SNES-style X. That probably wouldn't be as popular, but honestly, after passing from 1-3 into the Playstation games, I found myself wishing there were another two or three SNES games to play.

A fully modern game would be a better option, but I think that they should shoot for simplicity, or at least transparency, in any mechanics beyond "beat boss, get weapon/move."
