Devil May Cry

Agent 47's had more than seven. Lara Croft over a dozen. And don't get me started on Nintendo's properties.

I kinda feel like it's similar to Metal Gear in that they have an incredibly beloved character that they keep trying to get rid of for some stupid unknowable reason.

Well in Metal Gear's case it worked because Snake's arc had run his course and the guy that replaced him had rescued himself from scrappydom in spades by the time he took up his mantle proper.

DMC already has that with Nero, and since any future games he stars in will be in the same genre, they don't even have to worry about making an unlockable Dante feel out of place.

Yeah, like, if I sound negative about it I'm not criticizing Metal Gear for Raiden. More for Kojima's repeated attempts to Torch the Franchise and Run.

But it is narratively appropriate for Metal Gear to cycle its protagonist out. It's a game series about war and loss and inevitability. Devil May Cry is about a stylish devil hunter who has an in-built reason to never age and a bag of tricks deeper than the mariana trench.

I’ve said this before but they could go the Yakuza route & have multiple playable characters with their own stories.

Hell from what I read, Kiryu Kazuma the seiries main protagonist was only playable in the final chapters of either 4 or 5.

I've only puttered around the early Yakuza games (O, 1, 2) where Kiryu is the clear protag and Goro is in because of Popularity Power so I'm not sure how that differentiates from what we have now? 5 is clearly an ensemble piece.

Have I mentioned I love V? I don't think I've mentioned that I love V. I was slightly reprehensive about him going in but can I just say I love V.

Well 4 & 5 are ensemble pieces with 6 going back to just Kiryu. .

It’s just that since DMC introduced multiple playable characters with 5 having 3 each with their own missions, distinct character traits & play-styles, & role in the story it be bit hard to go back to just one character next game.

Ya kinda now want to keep the variety.

There'd probably need to be several installments worth of content to set it up but an amazing climax to one of the games would be a returned Sparda, Dante, Vergil, Nero, and perhaps other members of the family like Lucia and Trish all charging into battle side-by-side and Devil Triggering at the same time to send an entire army of demons reeling in a giant Foe-Tossing Charge.

(Lady watches this above and turns to V, mentioning that they're the only two that can't fly. V looks at her expressionless before raising his hand and being carted off by Griffon. Lady then radios Nico and says she wants a Jet Pack.)

Also, you could just give Lady a jet pack Nico invented for her.

Clearly the fruit of the netherworld warped reality allowing Urizen to resurrect as a separate entity, bringing V with him. V eventually changed his name to "Vitale", saying that the letter can stand for many things. This is the plot of the third DLC pack of Devil May Cry 7, which stars Dante's daughter Antonia "Toni" Redgrave.

Look, don't take V away from me. I really like V.

Cause that’s a big deal.

It's been like a decade and she's spent a fair amount of her time hanging out with a bunch of devil hunters that look fresh out of a metal band and is part of a family of occult-dealing alchemists. She's more than likely been hitting the books and brushing up on her literature.

Which branches of the Three faces of Adam do you guys think Dante, Vergil and Nero fit?

I don't think any of them really fit as The Prophet. I'd say Nero and Virgil both are The Hunter in different ways. Dante has become The Lord by DMC V.

I'd argue that maybe Sparda had become The Prophet near the end of his life.

I still say have Dante's daughter pop up from somewhere and be woohoo pizza yeah and Nero be the straight man who doesn't want no cousin rivalry. Female Sparda bloodline plz.

No, I don't see the virtue of going beyond Sparda bloodline since that's what literally the entire plot of the games have been centered around. Sparda's bloodline is the overall MC of the games. Make spinoff games if you want. If it isn't him, or didn't come out of his balls, or his balls' balls, it can't be a mainline DMC

DMC is ultimately about family.

I definitely see Dadte's daughter goading Nero into a boss battle, gets herself stabbed through the chest, and then starts freaking about it. "OH MY GOD! Why would you do that!? I'm just a teenage girl! I was just messing around! You monster!" Nero panics for a few solid seconds before she starts laughing and pulls it out of her sternum.

I don't think anyone that takes after Dante has to do much more than talk to get someone in a fighting mood though.
