I can't imagine there would be a picture for this trope that wouldn't be a face and caption.
This is still a signature.Just A Face And A Caption is worse than nothing for a trope like this. It's not even a character trope.

It does not matter who I am. What matters is, who will you become? - motto of Omsk BirdTo be fair, it is a pretty cute caption with the smirking face and all. And he is the trope namer.
Overall, I think in this case it gets the feeling for the trope across pretty well, and I haven't watched Gargoyles. At most not enough to remember him, anyway.
Earl Grey? Most excellent! *air guitar solo*He has a smirk and his fingers are steepled and his face is a Face Framed in Shadow. Clearly he is a devious villain. Also, I point out that pointing out that "This is Xanatos, btw" can be useful.
Ideally what could work is a picture from manga, comic books, web comics, or even some video game dialogue. Although even a different picture of Xanatos would be better to avoid duplicate pictures.
and that's how Equestria was made! The thing is, a picture of a character doesn't illustrate this trope. (I'm not sure it can be illustrated at all.)
It does not matter who I am. What matters is, who will you become? - motto of Omsk BirdAnd again, we already have the picture on another page. At least the Batman Gambit picture has an abstraction of the trope.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Bumping this to see if we can drum up more ideas before I post a crowner.
and that's how Equestria was made!Looks like no alternatives have popped up.
Time for a Single Proposition Crowner.

and that's how Equestria was made!I still have no idea what this trope is about. Even if it was just a picture from a comic and had a copious amount of text, that would still be better than nothing. The page is too long for one matter and unlike One-Winged Angel the Laconic is really vague and unhelpful.
An image would definitely help spruce up the page.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Regardless of the result of the crowner, neither image in appropriate for either page. As has been said, it's Just A Face And A Caption. A character looking devious doesn't describe this trope, and it's not even a character trope in the first place.
I think the image needs to represent this trope abstractly or diagrammatically.
Ever want to try to get an image for this, or leave it be?
I say, unless someone can come up with some kind of flow chart or other graph-type image showing how a bunch of different things can work out for someone no matter how they go, then this can do without an image.
It's described a little better on the
As for a page image, in a thread about the Magnificent Bastard subpage images, someone suggested this Order Of The Stick comic for the Web Original section of Magnificent Bastard; in that thread I suggested using it for Xanatos Gambit instead.

Two versions, one a GIF and one a JPG.
Hm, the big grin helps, but I'd still prefer to see other options.

Alright, two things wrong with this picture. First of all, it's Just A Face And A Caption. Second of all, this picture is already on Xanatos Planned This Index. Any good ideas on what we can replace this picture with?
