What I kind of wish Punpun would have done is told Yuuichi that his proposal wasn't fair, and that he didn't want whether he ended up with Midori to be dependent on whether someone else succeeded or failed. There's no sense in Yuuichi "winning" Midori in a competition with someone other than his romantic rival.
Of course, I don't think Punpun is anywhere near that proactive, at least yet, and that would be pretty hard to get across with a silent protagonist.
...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back.This...
I have to second Melloncollie's comment. That is a god worth worshiping.

Jeebus this is depressing. Good, but depressing. I need to read something to cheer me up. Everytime you hope things will get better for Punpun they get worse and he makes it worse by being so damn passive. Not that a proactive Punpun would probably make that much a difference, he is still a child and shit is keeps getting piled on top of him.
Murr... no scratch that, at least he might have healthier relationships with people.
I do like how Punpun's Silent Protagonist status is kinda worked around by everybody almost Metal Gearing about what he says.
I wonder why nothing has been scanned for it since October. Maybe they are just waiting for the next volume?
Now that I've read up to the current point, I think I'll start working on a page for it tomorrow. Help would be appreciated, since I'm not exactly confident in my writing, and I'm not used to the style and formatting of the trope pages quite yet.
^ Count me in. I was meaning to get around to it myself, but whatever :3
I can't let this go without it's own page any longer. :P
I'll help too. I'm more of a page tweaker than a page maker anyways.
How would you say this is going so far? (I'm not dealing with most of the potholes just yet)
Oyasumi Punpun is a supremely bizarre Seinen manga by Asano Inio about the title character, Punpun. Punpun is young, innocent, and naive childish sketch of a bird amongst humans, although nobody, including himself, seems to recognize this. He has no real dreams, his father is an abusive deadbeat, and his mother is a drunk who regrets having him, but Punpun has one thing: a pretty girl named Aiko whom he fawns over. Well, her, and an afro'd and slightly useless god he can summon by chanting 'Dear God, dear God, tinkle-tinkle hoy!'

Hmm, I'm not sure if this manga can be considered 'bizarre'. The only weird thing about this series is the way the main character and his family are drawn.
For the rest, it is a disturbing series, but not bizarre.
The god of shit isn't bizarre?
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.Why, yes, but that also happened to be part of a fantasy from the local Cloud Cuckoo Lander.
As a whole, the series is a very straight Slice of Life, if only with some darker tunes then usual.
Woulda pegged it more as Coming of Age Story myself.
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.@ Miijhal: Sounds good so far. Should definitely mention the Coming of Age and Slice of Life aspects, though.
Planning on doing so.
It's definitely bizarre. It's full of non sequiturs, people acting and looking really strange, and, for christ sake, the main character and his family are a bunch of cartoon birds in a highly realistic world.
This is a series in which a cartoon bird is raped by an adult woman. How is it not bizarre?

Oh, and the principal and his vice-principle or whoever playing hide-and-seek with raepfaces. That was lulz xD
He was raped????? The Mangafox threads made it sound like he was manipulating her into doing it!

I was thinking of just that. :P
And I do believe so. He was crying while it happened and showed a lot of animosity towards her afterwards.
Not to mention since he's only in 7th grade at the current point, it qualifies as statutory rape, anyway.

ARGH geez. That was the impression I got too while I was reading. Damn Mangafox people, invoking Ron the Death Eater and all that. Don't read their threads if you value your sanity and benevolence.
I can kind of see how one would interpret the event as Punpun being too surprised to say no, and then just going along with it (they'd cited the beginning of the chapter when his thought bubble said "I want sex") and then having an Oh, Crap! moment after, and the tears might have been sweatdrops 'cos it's FREAKING HARD TO TELL ON A BIRD, but gah.

Alright, current draft. I'll need to read up a bit on the formatting before I start the article.
The story begins as Slice of Life comedy, following Punpun through his childhood as he deals with his family life, his school life, his social life, and his budding romantic life. While noticeably dark, it also contains a hint of child-like innocence. However, as the series progresses, it develops into an extremely dark Coming of Age story, with all innocence being wiped away. While the humor remains, it takes a backseat to experiences of Punpun, his family, and his acquaintances as they deal with the hardships of adolescence, adulthood, and life in general.
Currently, the series is ongoing with five volumes out in Japan. The series is currently not licensed outside of Asia, it's unlikely that it will be, considering the apparent obscurity of the series.
Seems good enough to me.
Yay! *goes to edit*
Oops. Already noticed a mistake I made. I forgot to describe why Rape Is Okay When Its Female On Male was averted.

Edited it some more. I'm surprised nobody else put in King of All Cosmos for God.
>__>
Does Punpun like Midori? Is he pissed because she and Yuuichi got back together? The Mangafox threads make it sound like Punpun did all that on purpose. >__>
