Hard split: Lotus Position

The page already soft splits the normal use and the levitation use. How about we make the latter a full Sub-Trope?

I'm happy with Levitating Lotus Position.

Speaking of which, why are we using an image of someone...not in the Lotus position? That's sitting cross-legged. Well, if we do split it, I have a collection of images ([1]◊, [2]◊, [3]◊).

I dislike all of those, but that's for an Image Pickin'.

Dhalsim's rival battle against Rufus in Street Fighter 4 shows him floating through the streets of India in Lotus position like it's no big deal. He'd be a pretty cool image.

I've started a thread to discuss changing the pic.

I don't think a split would be necessary. Plenty of tropes have examples sorted by variations on the basic trope.

I can't see how this could not be split. There's a pretty big difference between meditating in the lotus position and levitating while doing so.

I agree. They represent different things, as well.

Rising Lotus Position, mayhaps?

Floating Meditation? Meditative Flight?

Um, the non floating doesn't need a new name. The floating one would just be a Sub-Trope.

fine, works for me. The less title changes the better IMNSHO.

Suggesting Meditation Levitation for the new one.

I like that one.

- "What's to split? It's a specific position."

I made a crowner for the split here. I am not sure if it is totally necessary, but I feel like we should make that decision official before we go on to actually decide on names for a new trope. Feel free to check my work there as well and edit the crowner as you see fit.

Personally, I support a hard split because I think that the current trope description seems to not really be about the levitation aspect of the Lotus Position and given the current soft split I do not think that there would be much of a problem splitting the examples at all.

The Crowner is up to 10:1; I think it is safe to do the split.

Okay, so what to name the Sub-Trope?

Page action Crowner is locked, and unhooked; start brainstorming names and when we've got some that are decent candidates, holler for an alt names crowner.

I suppose that we need to decide if it's going to be limited to "meditating in Lotus position and levitating" or simply "Levitating while meditating".

No need to split hairs about "Hey! That's a half-lotus! It doesn't count!" or whatever. Meditation Levitation sounds great.

I'm not talking about half- or quarter-lotus versus full-lotus. I'm talking about not-lotus-at-all.

Yeah, I'd even allow crosslegged, but if someone is just floating standing up or that one pose where they have one leg down and the other up to their knee it shouldn't count. Mediation Levitation also could be confused for when characters meditate on an object to make it float. Not themselves.
