Just answer the question.

[up]Umm, nope. Totally different genre, age, and social situations. One game's characters deal with mostly juvenile school pranks and drama, whilist the other is about gritty crimes, political corruption, and a bunch of cops who act like they don't give a crap about their jobs.

That, and Cole's more or less considered to be the LAPD's golden boy and the pinnacle of ethical behavior (well up to point...), whereas Jimmy's a high school bully.

[up] You know, Cole and Roy don't like each other before the former's affair with Elsa is out. I wonder, do Jimmy and Gary don't like each other before the latter turned on him in the end of chapter 1?

Cole and Ray never did see eye to eye at any point in the game, and things just got worse between them after the Vice cases were completed. Jimmy always saw Gary to be a jerk, but never hated him until the later on in the game.

So yeah, I can sort of see a parallel there, but it's still a weak comparison. That's actually a trope that appears in a lot of other media too very frequently, I just don't know what the name is. To give you another example that you're familiar with, in Heavy Rain Norman Jayden and Carter Blake have a similar relationship. Blake doesn't like Norman cause he believes that Norman feels superior to him cause he's an FBI agent, and Norman dislikes how Blake does a half-assed job when investigating crime scenes or immediately jumps to conclusions. And as you know, it only gets worse from there on between the two...

Is there a Five-Man Band? It's Cole's unit and one formed in the last three Arson cases. As for the latter, who is The Hero and The Lancer since Cole becomes Decoy Protagonist for the last three Arson cases?

Are there any Character Tics for this video game? Well, Roy Earle has one: almost always carrying a cigarette in every scene he appears.

Here's an interesting fanfic: Humiliation. The plot is how did Roy is so humiliated when he found out Cole just investigated Elysian Fields.

So I got this game on Steam when it was 75% off last week and its downloading now. Anything vital I should know?

Enter a bunch of commands into the console under options when the config settings show up at launch.

I can't remember all of them off the top of my head but I know that "-str" (without quotation marks) improves framerate a lot.

Look up the console commands on either Rockstar's site or on the Steam forums.

If you start the game and you find the sound/dialogue isn't working (the pre rendered cutscenes don't count) just verify integrity of cache.

If you start the game and the nonprerendered cutscenes are messed up and your car is frozen in place with no way to move just restart the first mission again.

When restarting the game several times, hitting backspace lets you skip most cutscenes so that helps.

Those are all the issues I came across.

I spent about an hour or two trying to optimise and fix up a lot of the issues (it's not the best port) but once I got it working I've found it really fun.

Cool, good to know.

Not to sound dumb/ignorant but... how do I go about verifying the cache? Assuming I run into that issue.

right click on the game, go to properties and it should be one of the options under "Local files" tab or whatever it is.

These are the console commands I have for LA Noire, just copy paste that string:

-str -npd -windowed +jobs_numThreads 0 -ignorefocus -mousefree

str, npd and jobs_numthreads etc improve framerate iirc. Windowed is self explanatory, mousefree lets me move the mouse around in windowed or something like that and ignore focus is supposed to be for letting me alt tab without the game instapausing but it doesn't work so far.

So I just got this game.

Problem: The DLC suits mention improving certain weapons. Except... I have no idea what any weapon is called because I'm not into guns.

It really doesn't matter that much. The shooting is a very minor element of the overall gameplay and I'm finding even with an outfit that doesn't help with any element of shooting I can just take out enemies pretty easily without even really relying on sticky cover (though I might occasionally use cover manually).

Just choose your outfit based on how it looks.

Yeah, I know...

Speaking of shootouts, the game seems a bit dogy on its judgment of what's fatal or not. I can shoot one guy in the gut, and be greeted by the coroner, and then shoot another guy in the gut and he's just injured.

[up]The cinematic randomly changes each time whether you've shot him in a nonlethal area or not. One time i shot a guy several times in the left leg to take him down, and the following cinematic showed him being taken away in a body bag.

Heh, s'funny, I was just thinking about this game recently.

I seem to remember there being a rerelease of this game scheduled for consoles that was supposed to have all the DLC? Is that still coming out?

I gotta say, if there's one thing I don't like about LA Noire it's that everyone runs even if they're innocent.

STOP RUNNING YOU STUPID PEOPLE.

I have your name and your face and can ID you pretty quickly, what is that supposed to achieve?

Especially when you assume Only a Flesh Wound and try to incapacitate them by shooting the legs. I was as shocked as Cole to see a body bag.

Street Crimes are kind of... less open than I thought they'd be.

You can pretty much only arrest people in main story-mode cases and the very rare SC.

That's more Truth in Television than you'd think. A lot of folks either have a poor idea of how the police function or have some other dirt they don't want exposed and will end up running as a (rather foolish) reaction. Hell, there's even cases of folks leading the police into a massive chase all because of a broken taillight or mistakenly believing that the cops were trying to pull them over instead of the subject they actually intended.
