I think "abridged for kids" is a valid subtrope of "abridged", because very often they do change the tone of the work radically. But the name doesn't indicate that.

It's not terrible, just really bad for the very specific trope we're getting here: I Thought It Meant the increasing popularity and ubiquitousness of abridged series for nearly every series known to man.

My first though was that it was those works that most people read in an abridged version — or worse — read as an abridgement and never even realize it —The Count of Monte Cristo comes to mind — even the Penguin Signet Classics version is an abridgement.

Yeah, we should split "Child-Friendly Abridgement" off into its own page. And this can cover more than just books. Wishbone comes to mind right away.
Just call it Child Friendly Abridgement? Simple, to the point, and if anyone can't figure it out...

Disneyfication is basically "making the work fluffier", and includes adding things to make the work Lighter and Softer, as well as taking out unpleasant stuff. It includes completely rewriting the ending to make a Downer ending into a Happy (or at least, Bittersweet) ending.
Abridged For Kids is strictly about abridgements, not adaptations that include additions or changes to the plot, and would include cutting out "boring" or "too confusing" parts. An Abridged For Kids version may be somewhat less grim or dark, but it isn't a complete change in tone from the original work — if it had a downer ending in the original, it will still have a downer ending in the Abridged For Kids version.

No. Disneyfication is changing the tone of the work often a great deal, sometimes completely. Abridgement generally does not. It is simply shortening it.

I just noticed this trope today, after following a link from {{[[Literature/DRACULA}} Bram Stoker's Dracula novel]], which I've been reading lately.
The trope description is problematic. It says "A piece of literature is abridged in content and length so that it is suitable for kids."
The examples, however, aren't just about "kid-friendly" adaptation. Which seems to be covered by Disneyfication, though the description writer treats that as distinguishable in some unspecified way. The trope probably shouldn't be only about "abridged for kids," in any case, because lots of abridgements are done for entirely different reasons. Most obviously, many are made shorter mainly for the sake of making them shorter. (The abridged Dracula mostly seemed to have excised long "travelogue" type digressions, but there are interesting content changes here and there, too. None that show any sign of being "for kids.")
Could be ripe for renaming too, with the irritating and unhelpful snowcloning thing going on.
