Can anyone recommend any decent books on Egyptian mythology?

On February 22 1974, Samuel Byck attempted to assassinate President Nixon by hijacking a plane and crashing it into the White House. Who in Nixon's cabinet was present in the White House at the time? I want to know who besides Nixon would be cut short if this plan worked

Is there a reason why Adopt-a-Servant is spelled with hyphens?

I think it's meant to evoke the name of a name of a business or service, akin to "an adopt-a-dog event". It rolls off the tongue and has a similar kind of catchy rhythm to an advertising slogan or business/service name, too.

Why do gridiron players wear so much protective equipment? The only footy game I'm really familiar with is Rugby League, so seeing all that safety gear is weird.

The helmet, at least, in American football (I think that is the sport you are talking about) is because of the concussions, which are common in American football.

Why do car factories start making car models for the upcoming year when the year they've been made isn't even over yet?

Probably an arms race. Who can bring the next model out soonest. Maybe also something to do with pipelining. You make the design changes and then you need to adjust the factory, and it used to be that it took months to roll out the changes and the plans needed to be finalized by the middle of the year, but now they're much faster and the plans are still finished by the end of the year and implemented immediately.

Is Sony Pictures an American company or a Japanese company? And if it's the latter, does that mean Sony's animated movies (i.e. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, Hotel Transylvania) should be placed in the anime section of this wiki?

I'd say that Sony is making Western-style movies with Western-style animation and that would mean that however you define the ownership of the company, their movies are Western Animation. But that road might lead to Western animesque productions getting lumped into Anime.

That's true, but their movies are being made in the US, with American directors and American producers. And if the rumors that Sony Pictures will be bought by Apple in the near future are true, then it will indeed be an American company in even the strictest definition.

Huh. Did Apple ever take a shot at incorporating Pixar? Steve Jobs personally owned a large stake in it for a while, so that he could bail personal friend George Lucas out after Howard The Duck bombed and Lucasfilm nearly went bankrupt, and anyway the Computer Graphics Department or whatever the name was really wanted to focus on their own films rather than being an effects vendor.

Plausible, but I'd think "Karly" would be more likely.

Don't see anything weird about it. It's not the most common diminutive for that name, but if that's what she prefers to go by, that's that.

HQed in New York, a subsidiary of the also NY-based Sony Corporation of America, which finally is a subsidiary of the Japanese Sony Corporation. So it's an American company owned by an American company owned by an American company owned by a Japanese company. Also before it was Sony Pictures it was Columbia Pictures with its long history starting as a Poverty Row Hollywood studio in the early 1900s

What happened to tumblr? I can no longer access the site or my favorite pages.

There was a general purge of porn blogs in December, but you should still be able to load the site itself.

Hardly any of the blogs purged were actually porn blogs, just blogs that posted too many cats with peach-colored fur or LGBT information, and things like that.

I just cannot seem to access some of the blogs I follow as I get blocked for some reason. They are not porn blogs but they still get blocked.

What kind of error do you get? It's entirely possible that your usual blogs got in trouble, or maybe even left of their own accord. That being said, most of the "Tumblrpocalypse" went down about a month ago.

Completely innocent blogs are getting flagged and hidden all the time. If the operators of those blogs left, those flags can't get appealed.

I've also had trouble with Tumblr fake-blocking me from other blogs. The owners of those blogs say they didn't block me and they don't see on their end that I'm blocked, but I suddenly can't interact with any of their posts until I talk them into blocking and unblocking me to clear whatever glitch happened.
