Well ... something more ... more ... something aimed at a later demographic than those seem to be aimed toward.

Could you... elaborate a little on that?

A little more dignified, I suppose. Something that sells that it is meant to taken as sincere.

I think he's talking about the icons.

Ah. Well, I do like those the best. Should I make a list of tropes that would be under the new subjective tag?

At the risk of being rude...

Is the new subjective banner permanent? I'd like to know *before* I start mass-deleting.

I just want to know if this is Fast Eddie's overall sentiment.

Deletions might be okay, but the friendlier thing would be to move the 'example' to the appropriate page. If that seems like too much work, then back off a bit. You are letting the number of corrections needed to overtake the need for quality corrections.

The phrase "mass-deletions" generally makes me defensive, because I've seen the kind of damage it can do on this site. Well Intention Extremist is not the kind of editor we want - just well intentioned editors!

Yeah why don't we do mostly volatile pages? Like Dethroning Moment Of Suck.

It might be best to just attach it to a particular index, then—at least that way, it's easy to monitor which pages do and don't have it.

I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

Currently the subjective banner reads "This is not a trope, this is an opinion".

Well, from my point of view, as Long Cat is Long and Obvious Troll is Obvious, so is a Subjective Trope a Trope. Some of them are heavily influenced by opinion and have elements which are only in the eye of the beholder (as the previous banner went), but many of them are still tropes. Black-and-White Morality is a trope. Standardized Leader is a trope. Many of them are Audience Reaction Tropes which become a factor when a large part of the audience reacts that way, and get flack because individuals go ahead and stamp them onto examples just because they personally happen to feel that way.

A blanket ban on listing subjective tropes... I don't know, I mean, it's true that in 90% of the cases listing them is a bad idea because of the Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgement, but what about the other 10%? No listing of The Scrappy on the Scooby Doo page? Really? We're afraid to come off as subjective after we named the trope after him?

The Lensman Arms Race was a boo-boo cause by LensmaNARMsrace. the string 'narm' in the the title being the trigger. That's fixed.

I'd agree that Black-and-White Morality is not subjective, The story either plays it that way or it doesn't. Value judgments of what is black or white differs by author, of course, but drawing the line in the sand is the trope.

I'll remove the banner from that one.

For clarification purposes, are banners in general something Tropers can add, or do they require admin/mod intervention?

Looking at the source for bannered pages, I'm guessing the later, but I won't swear to it. I'm still learning things about the infrastructure for this wiki, and I didn't exactly start just yesterday. tongue

If regular tropers can add them they would probably be everywhere. Besides there were banners before and they weren't addable by tropers.

They are (now) triggered by attributes of the page title or by the <<|SubjectiveTrope|>> markup in the page.

I'll publish a list of those title attributes in a bit.
