Actually, scratch that. He does, and goes by Jethro Q Walrustitty.

I now understand why old writers place such a huge focus on re-writing. They lived in an age without word processors, when rewriting something meant typing it up again on the typewriter or, worse, scribbling it by hand. I guess a lot of people didn't bother, but it seems trivially common sense to correct errors when they are committed on a computer.

Oh hey, that's the thing they mentioned on Horrible/Anime.

...and it's just as shameful as I would have guessed.

Hegel's stance is thus not any kind of "mediatior" between the two extremes, Spinoza and Kant; on the contrary, from a truly Hegelian perspective, the problem with Kant is that he remains all too Spinozean: the crack-less, seamless, positivity of Being is just transposed into the inaccessible In-Itself. In other words, from the Hegelian standpoint, this very fascination with the horrible Noumenon in itself is the ultimate lure: the thing to do here is not to rehabilitate the old Leibnizean metaphysics, even in the guise of heroically forcing one's way into the noumenal "heart of darkness" and confronting its horror, but to transpose this absolute gap which separates us from the noumenal Absolute into the Absolute itself. So when Kant asserts the limitation of our knowledge, Hegel does not answer him by claiming that he can overcome the Kantian gap and gain access to Absolute Knowledge in the style of a pre-critical metaphysics; what he claims is that the Kantian gap already IS the solution: the Being itself is incomplete. THIS is what Hegel's motto "one should conceive the Absolute not only as Substance, but also as Subject" means: "subject" is the name for a crack in the edifice of Being.
I understand and yet I don't understand.

@ Myr: Coming from the lit studies side of the equation, I take it that means Hegel is a bit of a joke that nobody in his takes seriously anymore and tends to be treated as the ideological equivalent of an embarrassing grand dad? 'Cause that seems to sum up most of the guys the subject pays any attention to.

Is it just me or do Atlus games feel very Japanese, even among fellow Japanese game companies?

I hate it when people call the brain an organic computer. We came first. I doubt you'd get as much resistance to materialism if you started calling computers metallic brains. But that kind of inability to put a positive spin on things kind of defines modern materialism.

Well, in the broadest sense of the word, a "computer" is simply "something that computes". So the brain fits by that definition.

Originally, a computer was a person who computes. A digital computer is a digital substitute for a person who computes. So an organic computer is an organic substitute for a digital substitute for a... I think I'm overthinking this.
