[up] People like that have always been around. Anytime a fandom grows, it's "dark side" of trolls, misinformation, arguments without context etc will also grow. Anime has been steadily rising in popularity and it is talked about pretty much everywhere so your chances of meeting people like that increases. A site like twitter with its character limit also helps that kind of thing. Best advice, pick your fights. If you see a topic/forum/conversation going down that rabbit hole, better to just leave

Worst True Final Boss? I just re-read a Taiwanese manga and it final boss was super stupid. Like the entire conflict of the story is about the human who just rebuilt after an apocalypse event and the mutants descendent or remnants of the people who cause the apocalypse event in the first place. In the end, the final boss round up to 3 suspects, the main bad guy up until the end was a mutant guy who was experimented on by the government and want to get revenge, his Enigmatic Minion waiting in the background to make his move and the army of giant monsters summoned by the army accidentally while using magic tech. You know who the final boss? The A.I of the armor that was built 10 chapters ago to fight all the above guys! They made the ultimate armor and successfully defeat/talk down other 3 only for the armor A.I to declare he now go full Skynet.

Did Medaka Box ever get an official translation? I've been reading a fan scanlation, as one does, but it got to a point (chapter 56 if you're wondering) that I had to reread a chapter multiple times until I confirmed that no, it wasn't just that the character was kooky, the translation was a borderline-incoherent mess. I've read a lot of shoddy translations in my time but rarely do I throw my hands up and set out to look for one that's comprehensible. So if there is one, I'd probably be willing to shell out for it.

I saw from a search that it had some discussion many pages back, but I finally got Netflix and I've been watching Dorohedoro. A while back I read some of the manga, but only the first couple volumes.

It's really great. I've been watching the dub version (which I understand is a bit contentious). I quite like the voice acting, which I think conveys the appropriate goofy tone. Also, as the series progresses, there's some surprisingly well-done plotting.

Only complaints I would make is that at times, the dialogue can be a bit As You Know. Also, it's kind of weird how on few occasions food is referenced as Japanese or Italian, since there's no reason to think the characters live on Earth.

Oh, the irony of being bought by the people you divorced from two years ago.

Meanwhile HBO Max continues its slow decline into irrelevance as it prepares to banish anime from the service while begging people to pay $15 a month for box office washes.

[up]HBO Max would've been a great service for anime offerings, especially since the bidding wars for streaming anime is heating up (ask Netflix, who's been aggressive with the medium lately). I was hoping that they could do a deal with Funimation down the line, like an output deal with HBO Max instead of continuing to invest in a niche service that's likely draining money from Sony.

But nope, Stankey and Kiliar want those Disney+/Hulu/Netflix numbers, and they'll screw anyone to get there.

Stumbled upon and started to reading Sousou no Frieren, or Frieren at the Funeral, a manga about the titular elven mage who was part of a hero party that defeated the demon lord, and goes on a journey to learn more about humanity and her feelings when one of the members died of old age.

It's a manga that basically starts with an epilogue and in general relatively low-key and very somber, but not in a depressing way. I think I'm going to enjoy this manga.

From I hear its a very general series and thus lacks the more unique stuff found in Death Note and Bakuman.

So it hasn't picked up as much steam as the prior series.

This really shouldn't need to be pointed out at this stage, but if it got an anime adaptation then clearly it means it sells at least well-enough in Japan.
