I mean it's possible, but I don't think it's a common enough situation that they should really be taking it into account.

x5 That's an interesting idea. One issue, though, is that future systems might not have that feature. I guess they could introduce an item for it (like the Prism Scale for Milotic in games that don't have Contest stats).

Quick question (hopefully): I restarted HeartGold recently, and since I can't not plan ahead, I was wondering, should I leave a slot or two open for Kanto, or is it not worth waiting that long to fill out my PvE team?

that's basically postgame, might as well fill out your team. especially since kanto doesn't have any particularly interesting mons that Johto doesnt

A few good Pokemon are in Kanto (even Johto ones for some reason) but it's too late to keep em up with the rest of the team by that point.

Good to know; I'll definitely factor that into my team-building. In particular, I had been thinking of using Suicune as my Water-type in place of the red Gyarados (which usually ends up being my Designated HM User anyway), but I've got a couple other options that I could obtain much earlier. Exactly. What I was saying is that Suicune was my original plan, but since I'm going to fill out my team long before then, I'm going with one of the other possibilities.

Suicune is obtained much later in HGSS. Also speaking of Suicune, the requirements to get it in those game confused me because I missed that one hiding spot.

New!Shellos (Plus East Sea)

Shellos and Gastrodon were kind of the beta concept for Regional Variants, weren't they? What with having two visually different but otherwise identical designs found on opposite sides of the same Region.

They're the Pokemon I would most be okay with getting a Regional Variant for a new Region, since they did it first.

I actually like that the only difference between the two is cosmetic.

Especially since they're the only Pokemon that does that, so that makes them a bit more unique.

do you think adding a element-ate effect to Turboblaze and Teravolt would make Reshiram, Zekrom and the respective Kyurems (more) broken? (wow Kyurem's movepool is garbage)

Considering how unbroken they are, I think that would not be a bad idea.

I had this in mind◊; more of Tinted Lens/Steelworker/Scrappy approach tho.

Poor Ice-Type

Pretty much the only viable Ice-Type Pokemon are offensively orientated with a secondary type to provide STAB coverage with Ice (or sacrificial in nature, hi BL Froslass)

is there any type that nicely covers most of Ice's weaknesses?

I'm not sure there is; Fire, Fighting, and Rock are all common attacking types and I don't think any one type resists more than one.
