Persona 5 Strikers is one of those games where it looks fantastic and I really want to try it out, but I know I have to play the 80-hour predecessor first and also the two games before that because I have brain worms. So not happening anytime soon unless I quit my job and shut off all social contact, which admittedly is easier than ever in the age of COVID.

Is "I don't want to be spoiled by 5 having much better gameplay mechanics and quality of life features" the reason you want to play 3 and 4 first? Because 5 is totally disconnected otherwise.

Yes, pretty much. I have 3 on the backburner and would like to give each a shot before being spoiled (gameplay/QOL-wise) by the latter entries.

Speaking as someone who like P5 a lot, I think P4 Golden holds up just fine if you eventually go back to it after P5.
... P3 is... well, I personally do like it better than P4(G) but the QOL improvements that are missing are... noticeable.

Though it may fit some definitions of ARPG, I'd say it fits the hack 'n' slash genre more than anything else.

P5 itself was gonna be an Action RPG at one point, but the Persona team didn't have the experience that the Devil Summoner team had, so they scrapped it, went with the traditional One More system of 3 and 4, and the action elements where reintegrated as Platforming and better dungeon design from previous games.
P 5 S is a scaled down, but more Musou esque style of the game that P5 was gonna be.

Kinda. A lot of Persona 5's elements make it very different, even if the basic combat is similar.
It was originally just gonna be a non canon Warriors game with P3 and p4 characters thrown it, but it got changed to a Canonical Sequel to Persona 5 (Whether its the OG or Royal is up for debate, though the finale hints at the events of Royal).

@Ninety: You might want to try out the PSP remake of Persona 3, it added several QOL-improvments that were missing from the original PS 2 release plus a bunch of other stuff that makes for a much smoother experience.

Make sure to pick the female MC, the writing of the Social Links on the original Persona 3 was quite weak compared to Persona 4 but her own route improved on that front quite a bit.
(insert Larkmarn's trademark "honestly, I'd play Persona 3 FES before Portable because experiencing the story in a game that has cutscenes and lets you walk around areas makes for a more immersive first experience and going back to the game after having Quick Travel and full control of your party is a pain" here.)
Like, I've put more time into Portable, but I'm honestly thankful my first playthough was FES.

Persona 5 Strikers (Zero Punctuation)
Yahtzee likes the Persona series, although advises against playing this one if you haven't played the others. Strikers is a weird mashup of the story and characters from Persona 5 with a Dynasty Warriors style crowd brawler, making one wonder if they slapped the brand on an originally unrelated property.
Next week: Harvest Moon: One World, a candidate for one of the year-end lists. Hint: it's not the best or blandest.

From what I hear, they originally wanted an action-y gameplay format for Persona 5 but veered away from it, and Strikers is them taking the opportunity to revisit the concept. I'm currently playing another JRPG-dabbling-in-action game (Final Fantasy 7 Remake) and I quite like what they've done with the combat. There's been a lot of experimentation in this hybrid of turn-based and real-time design space, and (after years of misfires) the industry seems to be finally hitting its stride with it.

Eh, Yahtz has gone on the record as disliking both strategy and simulation games, or at least not considering them worth his time to review.

Although he did love the XCOM Reboot and didn't hate its sequel and Chimera Squad Spin-Off, so he isn't completely averse to Strategy games.

It's Subnautica... IN SPAAAAAACE! It also tries very hard to be quirky and fourth-wall breaking, which comes across more as the writers smugly wanking themselves off in our faces than anything particularly clever or subversive.
You are the sole survivor of a spaceship that crashed in such a way as to leave bits of itself strewn across a quadrant and you have to survival crafting your way back to having a spaceship so you can visit the other half of the quadrant where everyone is throwing all the parties with blackjack and hookers that you've been missing out on.
The survival crafting part of the game is okay, but everything else is bafflingly insubstantial.
Up next: Persona 5 Strikers. Congratulations everyone: Yahtzee is hooked on JRPGs. The world is now free to end as its purpose has been fulfilled.
