To be humans fo SU don't match the tone of comic, are dull and sometimes just weird (like that lady who made her mom's birthday who in game was also worried that she will end up fat like her mom and was stealing food from her on party to make her lose calories. Gripping.) And that Eskimo woman just totally sucks. Screw her.

You know, it's telling that the only times Yardley gets to write stories is when it helps Flynn avoid writing characters he dislikes (Rouges and Marine).

Well, I guess I can't deny that. Unleashed was going for a primarily light-hearted tone, whereas the comics feel just a bit darker, and so the humans of Unleashed don't fit as well. I'll also admit I'm kind of annoyed by their Skewed Priorities (the world's in freaking pieces and you're more concerned about a fucking birthday party?)

Indeed, it truly is telling that this is the case. Yet, ironically, Marine under Yardely's pen is honestly no better, if not worse, than how she was under Ian as she's still presented as a highly annoying nuisance who causes more trouble than she does solve them. And actually, Marine's treatment is another thing about the comics that angers me and the only reason I'm not as vocal about it as I am with the "Cream Crisis" is because I care much more about Cream and because Marine, mercifully, doesn't appear often within the comics (whereas Cream appears commonly but the majority of her appearances literally mean nothing). But yeah, I'm highly annoyed at how the comics handle Marine so horribly. It's one thing to completely ignore Marine's Character Development from Rush Adventure, with her promising to mature and become stronger at the very end, but it's another thing to portray Marine as literally useless. Like, what contribution has Marine truly made throughout the comics? Destroy Metal Sonic with cannons? Yeah, after stupidly latching onto Metal's face and making it ten times harder for Shadow and Blaze to attack and after Shadow and Blaze had weakened Metal enough to become vulnerable to the cannons. And actually, Marine destroying Metal was treated as a bad thing due to Shadow needing Metal to return home (thankfully Blaze had a Chaos Emerald but still). And what about Marine's "power" shown at the end of Rush Adventure as well? No one in charge of the comics (aside from Ian, who obviously wouldn't) is going to follow up on that?

(Sigh) I'm sorry, I feel like I'm becoming too hateful towards the comic. To be honest, I actually consider it the best piece of Sonic Media we have right now; while the games are presently ignoring the cast and focusing on extremely lighthearted humor (with Boom being more-or-less the same), the comics not only keep those characters relevant but has a fair balance between light and dark tones. But it's because of this I'm super critical of the comics, because I want to enjoy it wholeheartedly but these fumbles get in the way of that. I want to be happy whenever Cream appears but so far her appearances can be summed up as being a mere background character or ATTEMPTING to make a contribution/impact but being denied either due to unforeseen events (Cap. Metal with his massive laser) or being actively forced to stay in the sidelines by another character (namely Sally, whom I never liked and now struggle to tolerate), which leaves me severely pissed off instead. I want to enjoy "Shattered World" for bringing back the elements of Unleashed (Werehog and Chip) and allowing the rest of the cast to take part in the events, but it's hard to get invested when the stuff actually involving Unleashed are basically ignored in favor of stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual game and indeed it overall feels like Unleashed is being tossed under the bus so the comics can advance its own agenda. The fact that the rest of the cast are taking part doesn't even matter seeing how most of them are only dealing with their own "side-plots" that only remotely involve Unleashed (Team Dark with their alien hunt, Knuckles with his shards) and others aren't even doing anything at all (Cream, despite being a member of the protagonists right now, and the Babylon Rogues, who don't even appear whatsoever). And Marine, a one-shot character whom I personally favor and believe has good potential, has her Character Development and ability from her game completely ignored in favor of being an even more useless, annoying comic relief than she was in the game... Just, this shit should not be happening in the one medium with any inkling of quality to it.

The Babylon Rouges are boring and bland as shit. I don't care about them at all. As soon as Sonic Free Riders was released with the Babylon Rouges nowhere to be seen, I knew that they weren't going to be in anymore games. Why add three pointless faces to an already huge cast?

Cream shouldn't be on the battlefield because she is six years old. The Freedom Fighters when you take all the grandiose and superhero elements away are child soldiers. The only reason why they have Tails around is because they raised him. Adding Cream just brings unfortunate implications. And besides, Amy was 8-10 and the Freedom Fighters told her no on joining the Freedom Fighters mainly because they knew her true age and that she wanted to only join is because she had a big dumb crush on Sonic.

Oh and where the fuck is Vanilla? Because she is letting her daughter get into highly dangerous situations where she could be easily killed. This is negligence on her part is astounding and is borderline Gendo Ikari levels of bad parenting.

You gotta start somewhere.

I miss the old universe. My favorite characters were Scourge and Fiona Fox.

The new universe just isn't the same.

So nothing is confirmed yet, but due to news that the current subscription plans are ending at a certain point it's being heavily speculated that Archie has lost the Sonic license and is ending the comic.

Again, just a rumor right now, but hopefully this leads to both Sonic and Mega Man's comics continuing over at IDW. Let's be honest. Archie has been a poor steward for both licenses, I imagine Sega still finds the comics reasonably profitable, but are annoyed by Archie's legal issues, financial problems and pushing the Sonic comics lower in priority while they push Archie and Riverdale hard. Whereas IDW is a reputable publisher with a bunch of licenses under its belt, already has Ian Flynn writing for them, and is known to continue existing comics lines where they left off upon acquisition, so I don't think Sega will drop out of the whole comics licensing business just yet.

What other comics has IDW continued? All I know is they're big on 80's properties besides their original stuff XD

EDIT: D8

"I just spoke with Lisa at subscriptions at Archie (914-381-5155). I told her I was considering subscribing to Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Universe, but that I cannot seem to subscribe to them on their site. She said that right now, "until they have more information," they are not taking anymore subscriptions. I then asked if this meant the possibility of those titles getting cancelled, and she said yes. I asked what would be the final issue to then hit stores would be, and she said "I believe...290." (I forgot to ask about Sonic Universe and the final Megadrive issue, "Overdrive," and forgot to ask about resolving storylines and whatnot). And of course, I mentioned that a lot of fans are showing concern and would like to know what's going on, to which she said "Archie will be providing more information as it comes." That was it."

Ehhhhhhhhh, I really don't like how shady this sounds (even though Jughead's awesome). You guys remember that Kickstarter Archie did? The one that got axed? That was weird, right? Is this as shady as that?

That said, I really love the idea of Sonic (and Mega Man?) moving over to IDW, since IDW is one of the comic publishers I personally follow (namely for Transformers followed by Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at some point in the future) the most.

Are there any upcoming special comic book related events that SEGA could use to hypothetically announce a relocation of Sonic comics to IDW?

Ian Flynn writing for them

Ian Flynn's already writing for IDW? What titles?

EDIT: [up] I recall that they're publishing physical issues of Atomic Robo after something happened with its last physical publisher. And I think they also got the retro Disney comic license from Boom! Comics.

And also, that sounded really ominous...

[up] Ian's writing for the TMNT comic, last I heard.

I reached the subscription pages through Google, but it's not looking good.

People are blaming everything from Sega to Archie to Ken Penders to Scott Fulop to the reboot to former editor Paul Kaminski.

EDIT: An update of sorts!

"Literally just got off the phone with Archie's Order help. I asked a few questions and got some interesting answers.

1.) When will I receive Sonic 291? "you should be getting that next month"

2.) Can I get a refund instead of store credit for any leftover issues? "You will have to talk to the manager to see"

3.) I guess you were getting a lot of calls today, huh? "Yeah, we were getting a lot of premature calls today. We got nothing official over here to say, it's just temporarily off the site, is all."

I had no idea I would get a response like that, so I thought I would share. I would have transcribed the whole dang call if I expected the order person to actually say that last bit!"

If Sonic (and Mega Man) are moving to IDW, 10 bucks say that a crossover with My Little Pony will be made. Because we all know how those two fandoms tend to overlap with one another, so might as well pander to both and create said crossover.

[up]x2 I'm just responding to the rumors above related to Archie dropping their Sonic licensing and the possible chance of IDW taking the rights.

It's a big if as again I am going by people's guess that IDW might pick it up. But as far as reason, it's mostly because of ALL the license works the company acquired on which includes Transformers, GI Joe, My Little Pony, Ghostbusters, Star Trek, TMNT and (I think) Thundercats; so if anything Sonic will fit right in with no problem.

But again that is if Archie is really dropping the two titles and IDW is actively trying to gain the rights,

[up][up][up] Aside from being a reputable publisher of licensed comics, IDW probably could provide a much better bid for the Sonic licence than Archie could right now, due to the latter's financial issues.

If IDW gets the rights to make Sonic comics then hopefully the Satam characters could still be used as well. Since I wouldn't have any interest in a new Sonic comic without the Satam characters.

Though being realistic if Archie's legal problems are hurting the comic then I could see Sega deciding to never trust any company to make a Sonic comic ever again.

It appears we don't have anything to worry about, in regards to cancellation at least, as the solicitations for April have come out and Sonic is included: http://comicvine.gamespot.com/articles/archie-comics-april-2017-covers-and-solicitations/1100-156341/

Of course, I could be wrong. Maybe cancellation is still imminent... But at least we're still getting comics for now, so I'll take this as a good thing!

They're revisiting Segasonic? I remember the original pre-Ian era covering that part as part of Fiona's backstory.
