The Takeover, the beat-em up Matt worked on is out now, and Matt and Liam did a video about it. Now, this is a rumour, but the story goes that Matt worked on this game at the expense of Best Friends videos and that annoyed Pat, and Pat also thought the game was pretty bad and Matt didn't like that criticism. All this was a significant factor in Matt and Pat splitting up. I don't know how much of this is true though.

That's honestly what I suspected all along, and likely what Woolie meant by business-related issues. Especially since Pat referenced a Hard Times article that sounded like a dig on Matt's game as having reading Pat's mind.

I believe this much more over the various lurid rumors of Liam/Paige/Leanna/etc. deliberately egging them on to sabotage them out of a personal grudge. Or worse, all the garbage conspiracy theories about their various political beliefs clashing and causing the break, whether it's "Matt and Liam got too SJW for Pat" or "Pat pals with fascists and couldn't handle it when Matt called him out".

Doesn't paint a good picture of Matt in my view.

If Woolie's comments about Acceptable Targets means anything (early on he and Pat get made into the butt of all the jokes, but Matt as the boss got a pass, although that eventually dissipated), Matt isn't the best at handling criticism.

At the same time I also suspect that it wasn't as simple as that due to Pat's own notorious neuroses, and he probably crossed some lines with his comments.

I mean, all you have to do is watch a video from any of their Lets Plays to know that Matt is horrible at taking criticism.

Yeah, not only can he not take criticism but he also gets frustrated rather easily. I mean, I can understand him eventually getting tired of the format and not being able to work on stuff that he wants to work on, but I think they could have handled this a lot better.

While on the topic of The TakeOver, it does not seem to have a tropes page yet.

I've been rewatching the Bully LP. Fantastic game but I am really annoyed at Matt. He bungles the controls, misses obvious stuff and just brute forced his way through the whole experience instead of enjoying anything. I remember this was back to back with KOTOR which was an LP I skipped for personal reasons, but at least Woolie made sure to complete stuff.

The game reset on a boss fight, making him do it again after he just won!

Does anybody ever get games that the Zaibatsu played? Like, not playthroughs, those done-in-ones they usually use for the Shitstorm?

I've got Cold Fear, The Vagrant, and probably many more I can't remember.

I've gotten a few. I got interested in Super Robot Wars through their Jigoku-hen video.

I actually got that Man Vs. Wild game they did way back for their second Machinima season finale. Didn't spend money on it mind you. My brother and I got a laugh out of it.

For their third Machinima season finale they played Survival Shadows of Katmai, a game about a guy getting stranded on a snowy mountain and having to survive. I had always wanted them to do a full playthrough of that because it was dumb, but mostly because there's a part where a bear grabs an entire tree in its mouth and swings it at you like its a weapon.

He's also citing the literal dictionary definition of censorship. Self-censorship is a slang term.

I agree with Woolie to an extent that most of the clean-up he's criticizing when it comes to TMS is fairly ludicrous to the point of making things creepier than they would've been otherwise, but the people Pat are calling out are absolutely way too commonplace and full of bad-faith arguments. Also it's fair to be mildly to moderately annoyed (like me) but not to the extent that it makes or breaks a potential purchase, and hell, most of the people complaining (the passionate people Pat is primarily concerned with) probably weren't going to buy the game anyway. It's ultimately the developer's discretion, where they might've happened to overshoot,

And Pat's theory that a lot of Executive Meddling happens in the opposite direction to make designs more exorbitantly fanservicey is not theoretical, by the way. Multiple artists for Fate/Grand Order have complained about wanting to go with tamer designs complete with having the unused concept art on display, but being forced against their wills by higher ups (usually implied if not stated to be Takeuchi) to make the designs exaggeratedly outlandish and sexy to pander to otaku audiences. At least one design was a deliberately ridiculous looking Springtime for Hitler intended as a Take That! dig at otakus' crass tastes that got let in anyway because they didn't care other than that Sex Sells.

Yeah, I've heard about Takeuchi's weird insistence on anime tits being front and center. He's become one of my least liked aspects of the Fate franchise over it.

It doesn't help that he's become extremely lazy when it comes to his own output with the Only Six Faces syndrome or almost literal tracing of his old work.
