Preview to next ep shows Lillie commanding the Alola Sandshrew in battle, but who knows, she may not capture it. There's also an ice stone shown in the preview, I think they'll use it on Sandshrew to become Sandslash but then say goodbye to it in the ep. I don't think Lillie will capture a new pokemon and evolve it in a single ep, so it's probably just befriending a wild pokemon.

Sandshrew will probably become Lillie's Pikachu. Metaphorically. Just following her around.

I actually haven't been able to watch Pokemon in a while. My family hog the the TV, and I have work and school, and so on. Last episode I watched was the one with Sandgheist in it, a filler episode.

Well there's also the computer, most people watch shows online now. It's not like we're in 1999 anymore when people used to turn on the TV at a certain time to watch something. [lol] Online streaming is pretty much the norm now.

It's also the reason now people are able to marathon old shows or sagas of the anime they either missed as kids or never watched. It's not like the old days where if you missed an episode you were out of luck until reruns,

Just watching the latest episode.

One of the Alolan Sandshrew is a totem Pokemon. At the end of the episode, it becomes a Sandslash via an Ice Stone. Lily gets her hands on another Ice Stone, and an ice type Z Crystal. She doesn't use the stone yet, but it's still on the table.

You know how Digimon as a show has long lasted. Because it decided to reboot itself after Digimon Adventures 2.0. On the other hand, even Digimon allowed it's first set of kids grow as characters and meet their goals. The problem with Pokemon they really don't know how to move on. I think they should have stuck with their first plans of making Ash win the championship and his rival, Gary. It would have given him closure to his character.

However, if they wanted to keep him on board, having him go to another region but he would befriend the next generation of trainers from the current games. He could be the veteran trainer in contrast to how the protagonists based on the games were the rookies.

Ironically the main characters closest to making some level of accomplishment in their lifelong goal are Team Rocket, due to having got promoted by Giovanni in Best Wishes and at least staying in his good books for the time being.

There's something I can't quite resent about Ash staying, and I think it's the fact that, the very elements that are pointed out make him a very sympathetic archetype, especially in later series. He's very altruistic and idealistic, and yet he's always designated to help other people get closer to their dreams, while always failing at achieving his own. He's almost Klonoa like in this regard, just a sweet guy cosmically used and sent around the world to help with other people's problems. All he really needs is a few pronounced wistful moments and he'd become a really heartwrenching character.

I think XY could have been a pretty cool in-story play on this, if it hadn't been so formulaic and self contained. It was especially noteworthy since the league loss actually played on all this, all his main rivals were people he had assisted in the past, basically sealing his own failure and he is ultimately deemed to be the moral victor by the misguided champion. The Snowbelle arc could have been way more powerful if continuity was acknowledged in this regard, five regions worth of repeated failures and never seeming to get any better finally weighing down on him.

SM also plays on this in an amusing way, since Ash is for the large part as competent and insightful as his XY counterpart and saves the day as often, but he always makes a pratfall along the way that makes him look like a loser at face value. Basically all the hard work with little of the spoils and respect. I can also appreciate that this series is arguably the first to not just have him do the same tasks in a different backdrop, and really putting him in new challenges non-stop, even this Fish out of Water situation exacerbates his disposition.

Not to mention SM has for once brought back a couple long gone mainstays to check on how they are, which makes their presence in the original series seem a bit less pointless.

Oh yes, it's that guy from Serebii posting this here on this forum now.

Basically, I'm going to paraphrase a friend of mine on your little arguments. Your argument for the nature filler is really just saying that the climax is what determines whether or not something is a filler, that the premise must be fulfilled or the story becomes filler. In reality, the climax does not determine the nature of "filler" in any given work. After all, every tragedy from Greece to Shakespeare ends with the intentions of the main characters going unfulfilled, yet those works are heralded as classics rather than fluff. Really, this is a big way of saying the ends justify the means.

Any updates on the current anime? I'm still hoping for a Rainbow Rocket or Let's Go-based arc. (Team Rocket really needs to take over Saffron already XD)

Next episode is a dancing contest which seems to involve Steenee. Then what sounds like an Incredible Shrinking Man plot for Ash accidentally instigated by Faba. Also another Ultra Guardians episode.

According to Dogasu next years movie is about Mewtwo:

https://twitter.com/DogasusBackpack/status/1017585189105463297

We don't know if it's another AU movie (meaning Ash will meet Mewtwo for the first time like Movie 20 and 21 were new universe Ash's), of it's back in the main continuity. Also remember there was a new female Mewtwo in the Genosect movie a few years back as the last BW movie.

According to Dogasu though the original Japanese actor from Movie 1 is reprising Mewtwo, so I guess it's the first one. But it might be a continuation of this new universe Ash, so it might just be a loose remake/reimagining of Movie 1.

I guess the SM cast isn't getting a movie then, next year was their last chance so unless Mewtwo is visiting Alola for some reason, it's not happening.

The title is literally the same as the first movie's just with Evolution strapped on the end, same with the logo. Make of that what you will.

Wow. So the Sun and Moon cast gets no movie at all huh? That's so crazy. I don't believe it.

They'll be the first group to get no movie whatsoever. It's unprecedented really.

I'd say it was a combination of the 20th anniversary, the heavy Kanto/nostalgia pandering with the games as of late, and probably the writers feeling SM's tone wouldn't fit an hour and a half long movie, that made them decide not to make one.

The Alola companions will never be seen in movie animation now. The main cast always looks a little different in the movies than the anime due to the higher budget of animation, so I do admit I was curious to see what they'd look like, but oh well.

Also the XY movies generally did poorly in the box office if I recall, so it may be why the writers are trying something different with these last 3 instead of making movies set in the current saga like they always do.

It's bizarre that Lillie won't be in a movie proper, I thought she was near about one of the most popular characters in the franchise.

Well it's mostly the game incarnation of her where she's a major part of it, the anime could have theoretically promoted her on the same level of May, Dawn or to a lesser extent Serena, but the way the SM anime is structured in general doesn't really allow for that, plus we have too many companions this saga in general.

The reason why Lillie wouldn't be center stage in a movie, besides the story arc in the anime, is that she's not Ash. Most movies center on Ash. Every climax exists to prop him or the Pot M up in some way because they're cash cows.

Given the title, I'm leaning towards "remake of original Movie 1" with "New Ash meets Mewtwo (X)" as a close second. Seriously, just when the Anime was finally getting a rhythm, the games just had to go on a Kanto binge... And now that Let's Go is going to be a remake of Yellow... let's just say that I'm not rushing out to buy a Switch this year...

Precita: And yet, it seemed to me that, among the Classmates, Lillie is the only one that's been with Ash enough to warrant the title of "Companion". Kiawe ranks at "minor Rival"; the rest, meh...

Dr. XXX: I'm not seeing Ash as being anymore "front and center" than his Companions in the later movies; the movies follow the (quasi-)Legendary/ies of the Year and the only reason why Ash would be seen as F&C is if he stays in the main Legendary's path, e.g. 15 & 18 while the Companions ran a decoy route/prepared the new seal respectively. You could theoretically have Sophocles be F&C of a theoretical Necroza movie due to elemental typing.

I have a hunch Let's Go is a Stealth Sequel since the hero and rivals are different, building off of the Sequel Hook in Ultra Sun/Moon's Rainbow Rocket arc. (It's also meant to act as a bridge between Go and the main series, with a core RPG coming out afterwards.)

Whatever reservations I might have about the gameplay mechanics I know tons of people who are just like 'I can pet Pikachu/Eevee :3' and are happy to see Kanto again, since FR/LG was 14 years ago now...

I AM happy that Jessie and James are still in ^^

I still wonder what the anime itself will do for all of 2019. They're almost done covering the SM game stuff, Ash only has one more Kahuna to face, the last trial leader is appearing, almost all the Ultra Beasts have appeared, and there's likely just going to be a small league and something relating to the legendaries (and hopefully Guzma and Team Skull), to finish it off with.

The other thing is....Ash traveled through Kanto twice already. I seriously cannot see the anime making a third saga of Ash traveling through Kanto again. He's also done everything there is to do there.. We also have these reboot movies covering Kanto or the early aspects of his journey (Movie 20, now this Mewtwo reboot movie, etc).

On the other hand they could just keep him in Alola till Gen 8 starts with a year of bland slice of life filler...so who knows.
