Book eight is out, so I thought we should revive this thread.
Herald of the Literature Sub-Forum. Share me your favourite book/series/author!The author is coming to my area again for a signing.
For some reason, neither the Target nor Costco in my town has the book yet, so I haven't been able to get my hands on it. Oh well, I need to re-read The Atlantis Complex anyway.
It's kind of sad that the series is finally ending. I've been reading the books since the first one came out 11 years ago. Guess I'll have to find a new series of kid's books to read .
Awesome! Will you go to the signing?
Herald of the Literature Sub-Forum. Share me your favourite book/series/author!Hopefully.
What's the eight one called? This is news to me. And it's the last? Phew.
Whatever happens, I'm sure Opal will be back. It seems like she's always in the even-numbered books.

Herald of the Literature Sub-Forum. Share me your favourite book/series/author!Okay, I've been following this series since book three.
And I fucking cried at a point in The Last Guardian. If you've read it, you know when.
I bought The Last Guardian as a present for my sister.
I read the first chapters.
It is really the last book, right? Because he seems to have been trying to end it for a while now.
He's the Doctor. He could be anywhere in time and space.I don't think I'll bother with the last book. The Atlantis Complex was very disappointing. Turnball just wasn't an interesting villain, especially compared to the short story in which he first appeared. The Time Paradox was my favourite book because time travel and stuff.
"Steel wins battles. Gold wins wars."Finished The Last Guardian earlier today. Thought it was pretty disappointing in all honesty. The story felt like a mess and it was lacking the charm of the other books. I didn't emotionally connect with the book at all, except for two scenes that made me go, "Yes! " (hint: they involve Mulch). I'll try re-reading it in a few days and see if I feel the same, but right now it's probably my least favorite of the series.
I found Atlantis a little disappointing myself, although it was one of the funnier books in the series. I definitely think the first three books are the stronger ones in the series, but I loved The Lost Colony myself for a number of reasons (No. 1 being the, er, #1 reason), and Time Paradox reminded me of Eternity Code a little, and that's a good thing in my book.

Hello. Newbie here. Just wanted to bump and update.
You see that trailer? Looks nice, right? Intriguing. Gave you hope with the tone.
Well, there's finally a new trailer out. Considering it's 2020, looks like they had to push the movie back a bit.
I'm afraid I'm too new to post a link to youtube. But if one of you could be a dear and hunt that down and watch for yourselves? Note the differences. And then comment, please. Because I want to know if anyone feels the same as I do. Which is most distraught.
Most, Most, Most distraught.

I think you have to fail really hard to get a greater Dislike ratio on a video like this.
I had some excitement for an Artemis Fowl movie years ago. It's also been dead for years. This trailer did not rekindle it.
Nobody I know likes it, not a single one. Not anybody online, not me, not my GF, no one.

Kind of hard to market a kid's movie when instead of an Adventure Archaeologist you're a crime lord but anyone who grew up reading Artemis Fowl is well aware of that.
But why are they even marketing it as a kids' movie? Throw it at teens.
- sighs*
Because Artemis Fowl is a children's book series, so why wouldn't a film version be marketed at kids?
But anyone who has read the books knows that the Fowls are Irish mob bosses!
Children's books can get away with stuff that children's films and television can't. Mostly because executives pay more attention to films and television.
Don't get me wrong, it's stupid, the lesson of the Artemis Fowl books is "kids are mature enough to handle this," but that's the way executives are.
I hadn't seen the new trailer yet ... Oof. Suddenly I don't feel so disappointed about them deciding not to release in theaters. Holly is a kid now?? Working with Artemis?
kissed by aliensI really don't get what the people behind the movie are thinking
I was never really super-into the books when younger, but I definitely remember that the pitch for them was basically "Harry Potter but with Draco Malfoy as the protagonist". Basically, the Villain Protagonist element was the major selling point and what people like about them.
Although I was never that into the Artemis Fowl books myself, I do quite like the genre of "supervillain becomes the hero", which is part of why I like the Despicable Me franchise in addition to finding Minions cute (which I know is a controversial opinion in some quarters).
And while I wouldn't exactly say that the franchise is a work of genius, it is morally complex enough to never really have Gru become a good guy out of a sense of right and wrong. Instead, as he develops as a person and forms bonds with others, he's less inclined to commit crimes. And it helps that he is always up against someone worse.
And honestly, at the end of the day, this makes for an affirming Rousseau Was Right message, rather than a cynical one.
And my point is that this is also the basic set-up of the Artemis Fowl book series, and if it worked for the very lucrative Despicable Me franchise, there's no reason to think it wouldn't work for an adaptation of the Artemis Fowl books.
And mine is also the paperback!
So I have no clue either what you're reading, or what I'm reading. XD Mine's not missing any pages though; I checked specific-like.
