This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

~Naijal, your suspension is released.

~Antigone3, your suspension is for persistent Example Indentation issues. Here is a recent example:

  • Empress Istvatha V’han in Champions is from another dimension but has time travel abilities which she uses to their fullest to let her conquer other dimensions.
    • The 6th edition version of Golden Age Champions has Korrex the Conqueror, who plays this trope straight. (Well, straighter — when he conquers a given era, a new timeline splits off from the original no-Korrex timeline.)

You added the second bullet point. According to our example indentation rules, if there are multiple examples to a work, then the single bullet line is the work name, and subsequent second-level bullets are for individual examples, i.e.

  • Work Name:
    • Example A....
    • Example B....

You were sent multiple notifiers on this matter, but did not correct your behavior.

~Keybreak, I am checking with other mods if they have further thoughts on your case.

I have no idea why I have been suspended. Can somebody please tell me what the problem is and unban me?

7353: Please read our Edit War and Example Indentation in Trope Lists policies and then explain what you did wrong on Villain Has a Point.

I think that starting a fire and blaming the victim is not a strong example for Villain Has A Point.

But when I saw that others insisted to keep it that way I was willing to let it be and got banned anyway.

Can my ban please get lifted now? I promise I won´t try to change it in the future.

~Keybreak, the general thought is that you have not provided a sufficient explanation for what happened to cause your behavior in the first place, and, consequentially, have not advised how you are going to change that behavior, should your suspension be released. A release is unlikely unless you can appeal more convincingly.

~7353, it doesn't appear you were "willing to let it be", given that you tried to put it back after another troper deleted it, hence the Edit War.

Fighteer also asked you to review Example Indentation in Trope Lists. I would suggest Natter, as well, because what you edit-warred over is a prime example of it.

You shouldn't tack on a "well, actually" into an example. Examples are written to be read as a singular voice, and your edit reads as an attempt to say "this example doesn't actually count". If you want to discuss the validity of an example, then you should take it to the discussion page, or PM the troper who originally wrote it. If an example is outright wrong, then you should correct it fully and advise why in the edit reason. Writing an argument into an example is absolutely unacceptable.

While the film had mixed reactions from moviegoers, fans, and critics alike, one of the characters that stood out was Jessica Priest, who was liked enough that she later became a Canon Immigrant. The fact that she wasn't hard on the eyes didn't hurt either. There is also Clown, played with scenery-chewing gusto by John Leguizamo, steals the show in the movie.

Is this better?

No. Read Example Indentation in Trope Lists, because, based on that answer, it doesn't seem that you have.

It was a lot, basically. The daily news, my job, my home life...for a while I thought that that thread could help me piece through things.

If only that that I'm trying to deal with all of that now, I didn't want to have to do it on my own. Things have gotten lonely since I've been banned, and there aren't many other places on the Internet I have much history with.

Looks like you have issues with Zero Context Examples.

~Archivist10

Care to explain why you acted the way you did on the Doctor Who thread? Something about "PC culture"?

Me and another poster were discussing the credibility of the low user rating on Rotten Tomatoes regarding season 11 of Doctor Who, the poster in question claimed that it was due to right wing troll swarming the site, although I acknowledged this possibility I stated I had more inclination to trust low rating reviews that complained about being overly PC, then 5 star reviews that had no comments whatsoever on the basis that most people are rather tired of Political Correctness as evidence by a studie that found 80% of US citizens dislike it

~Keybreak, so what has changed now that we can believe, with sufficient confidence, you won't slide back into this kind of behavior?

~STARCRUSHER99, I'd like to make sure of that. Please rewrite this example to adhere to the rules explained here and in Example Indentation in Trope Lists.

  • Deadrising: Jessie may be dressed in typical formalwear consistent with an office worker, but when she’s sitting on the bed you can take a picture of her that features both her cleavage and visible panties. It’s all but required to do this for the Photo Challenge that Kent offers if you’re on a new save.
    • Cheryl most definitely qualifies, wearing a skimpy dress and asking you to have a photoshoot with her where she poses like a playboy bunny.
  • Deadrising 2: Amber and Crystal. From the mannerisms to the dresses, everything about them screams Fanservice. Their actions even start to imply Twincest between the two.
    • Rebecca is an example that’s not called on often, but from Chuck “checking out the view” and Amber cupping her breast it’s obvious that sexiness was the goal.

~Rippingtons60, a Zero-Context Example is an example where a casual reader cannot figure out how it is an example of the trope. If you are going to be adding examples, then they should have enough information for the reader to understand how it's an example.

You got 16 messages regarding your edits not having context, but don't appear to have taken them seriously, because your last edit still had this issue:

  • Mordor: The region of Oz that the Wicked Witch rules as her domain has this vibe to it.

Please read the Zero-Context Example page.

Ah, I think I get it now, I need to use actual examples and/or detail instead of subconsciously thinking the reason is obvious to anyone who's watched/read/played the material. Again I apologize. I'll work at improving when it comes to being more specific from now on.

I'll also try to pay more attention to the messages if I make more ZCE mistakes in the future so I can fix them ASAP.

How do I get back the ability to edit again?, I can fix the recent Wizard of Oz one easily.
