Yeah, I'm definitely agreeing with Feo that we need to up our game in the War On Natter (page pending.)
The Other Wiki has sheer numbers on their side. We have to be more ingenious. I...don't believe that the edit tips are working. We had the RPG, but progress has stilled to a halt. We had the Tutorial, but nobody seems to be working on it. I think our best strategy for now is "throw shit at wall, see what sticks." Try implementing a few Natter-removal strategies (restricting privileges, giving out a mandatory tutorial, etc.
Whatcha gonna do, little buckaroo? | i be pimpin' madoka ficsI think the edit tips are working to slow down the insertion of new natter. They aren't doing anything about the old natter, but they weren't really intended to. You can't fault them for not cleaning up existing natter.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.The game isn't dead. It is just down the development list. I'd say its impact shouldn't be underestimated.
But, that is also a measure pointed mostly at stemming the tide of new natter. Cleaning out the natter we already have needs a push. Once a page gets cleaned, it does have a tendency to remain clean. No bad examples to make people think it is desired.
Incentives would be good. Some folks just enjoy making the wiki pretty. Others might be inspired by something more.
Spitballing: Some sort of kudos points accumulating toward a piece of merch, or maybe toward ad-free use of the forums.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyWould adding a "things to remove on sight" to the editting tips help?
Fight smart, not fair.On a related topic, when is Blood Knight going to be unlocked?

Yeah, that really should only be a temporary lock, especially for a rather popular trope page.
Whatcha gonna do, little buckaroo? | i be pimpin' madoka ficsHow is that related?
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyIf you skipped from the OP to the latest post it'd be related. Not that I approve of that.
A Things To Remove On Sight list would be pretty useful. I've seen new editors reluctant to remove harmful material because they don't want to get in trouble.

Support stupid freshness, yo.I'm tempted to try and write something Warhammeresq about purging the foul natter and the heretical subjectives in the name of the emperor, but I can't think of a good way to phrase it.
Fight smart, not fair.Poe's Law would probably bite a War Hammer 40000 style write-up in the ass (see About Rhetorical Questions).

Do it like a trope, first paragraph for fun, second with the proper definition.
Fight smart, not fair. No, no, no. You start out clear and descriptive, then slip into the self-descriptive stuff.
When most readers come across something initially confusing on the Internet they give up on it. Immediately.
You need to hook the reader. Give them something clear, something illustrating that the writer is sane enough to listen to. Once they have invested that much attention, then you can invite them into the joke.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyHm, I thought it was:
[picture]
[quote]
[fun paragraph, get your self demonstrating article and pothole jollys here]
[narrow description of trope]
[real life imlications if any]
[differences between similar tropes and supertropes]
Fight smart, not fair.Nope. It's:
[picture]
[quote]
[description of trope]
[fun paragraph, get your self demonstrating article and pothole jollys here]
[differences between similar tropes and supertropes]
There may be some with the lead buried in the way you describe, but they need to be fixed.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyK, I'll keep it in mind then. That's what that link I suggested for the top button is for, if there's new things everyone should know, it provides a central place to get them.
Fight smart, not fair.Optional between quote and description of trope: Example as a Thesis
Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate to
Not sure what value there is to be gained by diagnosing the specific causes of obsessive behavior. We only have to deal with its effects.
The feature to dispense anti-OCD medications via the web is still in beta.
