65/100 - I'm detecting what distantly sounds like a bit of post punk in some of the harmonies or singing. Not enough to really add a whole lot to an otherwise simple, sparse number like this and its slightly understated pop sweetness but it's a nice touch for this kind of amicable, lounge-y sound.

Probably the most meditative song Tool have ever done, it feels like floating on a slow stream. Doesn't develop much, but it's great for relaxing or just giving yourself a breather. (8/10)

8/10. Pretty good car chase/headshot montage music not unlike other artists like Celldweller and Blue Stahli, but it's pretty typical for it's time period when this sound was the shit.

Dynamic, atmospheric song. Doesn't change much, which makes it good for a midnight ride, 4/5.

93/100 - Mystifying, intense, and ritualistic without the baggage that often follows these terms. The interplay between rapidly picked notes and lengthier phrasings with careful implementation of what sounds like throat singing results in a sound that while sparse sounding at first gradually reveals its complexity and beauty with a slow and enviable grace. Every theme flows into one another so smoothly without much of a sense of obviously demarcated sections and while it is certainly ancient in spirit, it holds up well enough to compete with more contemporary acts.

Disclaimer - my good headphones are in their death throes, so for the time being I'm having to listen to tunes through a much lower quality set or earbuds. That said, this has enough of a raw, pounding thrash sound that crystal clear sound quality probably wouldn't make the experience that different, though it also has a more ambitious, progressive structure than some thrash bands who are just pure straightforward riffage. I wouldn't consider it interesting enough to frequently come back to, but they're clearly pretty competent practitioners of their craft. 7/10

Heavily jazz-influenced though and with it, a bit meandering R'n'B-slash-hip-hop mix. Calm and soothing, 4/5.

To be honest, the more I listen to the 10's psychedelic music, the more it sounds the same to me, save for a few examples. The atmosphere is alright and all, I guess, but I literally cannot tell Chelsea Wolfe songs apart anymore. (5/10)

Bloodhound Gang - Socially Awkward Penguin

Oh yeah, you might wanna watch out for the album cover on this one.

5.4/10 Pretty forgettable with references just for the sake of them.

Pretty standard musically soothing hard rock ballad with soul-crushing lyrics. Also, bandcamp tried to guilt trip me into buying this song after three replays, lol, 4/5.

10/10. Wonderful interpretation of the classics. Ragtime is woefully underappreciated compared to it's younger, more notable descendent, Jazz.

9/10. Again, although not particularly fluent in this genre of music. I would say that this interpretation of this song (I genuinely forgot that Mortal Kombat even had a theme) is awesome.

81/100 - This basically sounds like a fairly early rough draft of what would later become known as progressive rock. The flashiness and towering complexity of Yes and Genesis isn't quite present however, focusing on a more sombre and gently flowing sound that gradually mounts tension and drama with changes in harmony. The synth and symphonic elements are the real stars of the show here, forming an almost ambient melodic current that really guides this song and brings it to a surprisingly poignant ending where they stop rocking and let the strings rip out something that sounds like a part of some classic black and white movie.

Ripping Corpse - Morbid Fascination

As visceral as the titles suggest. Even though it's barely over three minutes long, the track feels much longer, and not in a good way - it loses its momentum quickly, feels disjointed, feels like a chore, like the band tried to cram up too much into a short period of time, 2/5.

8/10 Casey Abrams is such an energetic and joyful performer, and the tapdance adds a new kind of beat and atmosphere that I dig. That said, PMJB has this way of arranging that makes the covers blend together after a while. (Hehe, the 'Sole' Sisters)

9/10: Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith is such an underrated talent. Even if this track is just a tad too long, you just want to lose yourself in all those wonderful textures.

The first Kacey Musgraves song I've listened to, despite having heard from basically every corner for a while now that she's easily among the best modern country has to offer. Sure enough, this is pretty and gently rustic in that way country was once so good at being, back before the bros in oversized Stetson hats moved in. I may have to check out the rest of this album now, just to see if she's consistently such a light in the dark. 7/10

8/10. Absolute classic of synth-funk. Although overshadowed by the songs it is sampled by (Rick James, De La Soul) it still retains its own original flare.
