[up][up] 8/10. A nice, chill funky song with some spoken word. Talking Heads were really ahead of their time.

[up] 7/10. Decent enough song with a nice melody but Waits' vocals can get irritating after a while.

82/100 - No, it's not "The Bard's Song" and no they probably aren't going to make a ballad as legendary as that one. This exuberant second chorus is a bit hit or miss but the understated character of the verse sections really show their ear towards mournful if quietly powerful melodies as well as the wider range of Hansi's voice beyond the pure power he is still known for. Plus, it is actually a fairly good chorus even if it feels slightly abrupt in how it comes into play.

The intro and the more groovy parts are quite enjoyable in their own way, with the slightly dissonant riffs conveying the sinister and chaotic mood effictively. I can't say I care much for the blast-beat parts though − I tend to see these kinds of sequences as the "autopilot" of extreme metal, the kind of stuff bands do when they run out of ideas. So, I'm half "this is pretty cool" and half "eeh, sure?" Love the basswork though.

I chose to review the opening version. It's a 6.5/10. It's a catchy enough song but I probably won't remember it.

4/5. The instrumentation on this one is great (reminds me a bit of Yes and Frank Zappa), and seeing as I am a fan of prog, this would make me want to explore more of the band's output.

Supertramp - Fool's Overture (Live recording because I can't find the studio track on YT; I mean I could directly link the Spotify track but...)

Clearly a nice way to end an album, but this amalgamation of various melancholic themes doesn't quite work as a standalone track, 3/5.

The problem with Quentin Tarantino is that he's so good at the whole movie-soundtracking thing, it becomes hard to judge songs mostly known for how Tarantino used them on their own merits. Every time the tune comes to mind, its Tarantino context is joined to it like a Siamese twin. This is no exception. The instant it plays, images of Uma Thurman and Lucy Liu having an epic katana fight to the death roll in your mind, continuing to play as you desperately try to objectively assess the music and the music alone.

The point I'm getting to here is, this is okay by itself. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" is enough of a timeless songwriting classic that even a large side helping of disco and flamenco cheese doesn't reduce it to less than the better side of decent. 6/10

It's becoming a rare event these days when the music video fits the mood created by the song itself. Here, the track can't really be stripped away from the video, acting as a perfect soundtrack for the wild, decadent imagery on the screen, 4/5.

Beautiful atmospheric soundtrack, quietly intimidating and kinda dynamic at the same time. Fits the theme perfectly. <3

6/10. This was just okay. I feel like the song took a little too long to start getting heavy and I wish that the aggressive parts lasted longer than they did. As it is, I won't come back to it.

I'll admit that the vulgar lyrics of the Slipknot original is hilarious in the jazz/swing style, especially since it's so relaxed sounding. 8/10.

2/3. Although Lateralus is a genuinely great album, Schism is still a pretty overplayed song. There's little to the song outside the unnecessary time changes and overly long build-up to support its popularity. Maynard has some cool vocals, sure, but he's had much more powerful vocal moments than this. See: Pushit or Ticks and Leeches.

[up][up]8.5/10. Good song by an awesome band. One of my favorites.

[up]7/10. Decent song. I wish the vocals were better. If the vocals were better, this would've been higher.

Prog elements give the song a lot of flavor, but ultimately it can't go beyond the limitations imposed by its classic hard rock structure, 4/5.

It's surprising how well this song makes the transition to a waltz arrangement, especially since Postmodern Jukebox and their merry band of Sinatra era aficionados are obnoxious as often as they're inspired. I'd still probably pop on the Gorillaz original if I felt like listening to "Feel Good Inc.", though. 7/10

I was very afraid when I saw the album cover, but I ended up enjoying this quite a bit. Last time I said that blast beats were too often like the autopilot of extreme metal, and thankfully this song doesn't resort to that. It has almost punkish rhythms at times and the solo adds a nice melodic-yet-sinister touch. I probably won't listen to this all day, but it does its job well enough.

I guess I'll add another spoonful of Gojira, with an old song they recently unearthed.
