Iiiiinnnnnnnteresting...
Although I wouldn't diss Kingdom Keepers too hard as a concept. It had great potential, which the execution fell far short of. If Magic Kingdom represents Disney's second attempt at the same sort of deal, but they go into it with the intent to make a genuinely good story rather than a marketing extravaganza, it could be awesome.
That said, I'm not getting my hopes up.
Stuff what I do.I just don't Kingdom Keepers on principle for focusing on generic teens you'd expect to see on Disney Channel and not so much on real Disney characters outside the villains and a few mismatches in their ranks like how you have Stitch working with Maleficent.
I wouldn't have expected a book aimed at the young teen market to use existing Disney characters as its protagonists, and I wouldn't expect a new family-oriented film franchise to do it either. In an Intercontinuity Crossover situation, I think most Disney characters make better NPCs, so to speak, than PCs. They're too iconic—how do you relate, on a personal level, to Mickey Mouse or Jack Skellington? (And yes, I realize the irony of me saying this.)
The problem with the DHI kids is that it's plainly evident more effort was put into making them the perfect mass marketable Five-Token Band than in making them interesting characters in their own right. Not that they are teen heroes for the audience to (hopefully) relate to.
I do find it interesting that this is happening now, especially in conjunction with Epic Mickey and of course the ongoing Kingdom Hearts series. It's like Disney is finally getting wise to the fact that many of their most loyal fans want them to go meta.

Stuff what I do.That's...not exactly what I meant. It's easy enough to relate to the characters I mentioned as the heroes of stories specific to them, but it makes less sense to have either one represent the entirety of an Intercontinuity Crossover. You could try compiling a team of iconic and popular characters from various titles, but then which ones do you pick? The only way to go, really, is with original characters, and as long as you're doing that you might as well hit your intended audience where they live—in their own heads.
The problem in Kingdom Keepers is that it was done very badly.

Stuff what I do.The main characters should be the base Disney continuity characters: Mickey, Donald, Goofy. Period.
No Minnie, Daisy, or Pluto?
Stuff what I do.^ Well, yeah, I was talking MAIN. Those are supporting characters.
Not so much these days. Pluto, yeah, he's Team Pet, but in House Of Mouse, for instance, the gals are just as prominent as the guys.
(Um...have you read my fanfic by any chance?)
Stuff what I do.^ (Oh wow... Reading now. Chapter one, I... I am cracking up at the idea of Donald attempting to say "requisitioned." Also, noticed something missing I would've totally used as a hint, for the impact of it- Max Goof.)

I've come up with this idea for an Epic Mickey ish game but more Space Opera less Cosmic Horror. I've already devised the entire plot for game one, which takes place at Disneyland and California Adventures (or rather on Spaceship Disneyland and Spaceship California Adventures), and have some vague ideas for game two. It's too bad that I have invented this concept at a time that is already full to the brim with attempts at Disney crossovers. Maybe I'll post the plot summary of it on here sometime.
I'm feeling strangely happy now, contented and serene. Oh don't you see, finally I'll be, somewhere that's green...
Disney's working on some elaborate Intercontinuity Crossover type of deal set in the Disney Theme Parks. Hopefully it's less Kingdom Keepers and more Friends and the High Council
