So I'm guessing the little girl we are protecting this expansion may be a Garlean Princess or something, like a Larsa figure in the empire.

Also things of note are the Blue Mage uses 1000 Needles, Bad Breath, Aqua Breath and that one spell that drops the anvil on enemies.

Thinking on it, I think the level 50 cap for Blue Mage may just be an early-access kinda thing, and the cap might go up with the sub-patches so they're ready to hit 80 and go by the time Shadowbringer's first 8-man is out.

Part of what made Ninja so rough is because it entirely threw off the meta and design balance by being released with Final Coil, hard-capping them at 50 for the end of SB would prevent that from happening again because of having Blue Mages pour into Alphascape Savage, the next Ultimate, and finale of Ivalice.

That's what I'm thinking to. 4.5 will be up to 50 and then then 4.53 up to 60 and 4.58 to 70 or something.

Psyched for Soldier though, its supposed to be a DPS right? I'm guessing we are going to get a lot of the attacks used by Gaius, Fordola and Regula. Terminus Est, Judgement, Sentence, Innocence and the like.

Kind of wish they named the class Judge though, since a few of its attacks are taken from Gabranth anyway.

People better get their Chocobo companions up though, so you can survive Bad Breath and come out on top [lol]

It actually looked like they had some kind of counter shield if you rewatch the trailer, they didn't get flooded with debuff clouds when they got hit by that, in fact it looks like they caught it in their hands.

I wonder if they'll have a "catch" spell to eat attacks that would otherwise be way too dangerous to take to the face to learn them.

You actually see the Blue Mage take a poison tic though when he learns the spell.

Also I'm wondering what part of the world Blue Mage hails from. I want to put my guess in Sharlayan.

Any particular spells hoping to learn? The Lion's Breath is on my list haha

Sharlayan would be likely, that kind of dapper-ness tends to be associated with them, looking at the Shire stuff and the armor from Library NM.

Kind of a shame it looks like Blue Mage doesn't keep the Deal with the Devil slash Dangerous Forbidden Technique theme they had in XI. Or at least if they do, the job's body language and outfit doesn't show it.

Yeah I was thinking the suit seemed very Sharlayan to of course the Red Magi are also decked out in suits and come from the much more rustic Ala Mhigo so who knows.

I kind of want the Blue Magi to be in universe weirdos and eccentrics, like that magic everyone kind of side eyes cuz it involves spitting out a lot stuff or something [lol]

I'm guessing Dancer may be culturally tied to the Viera since Gunblades are obviously Garlean. The new forest area they announced also seems like a choice area to be their ancestral homeland.

Also I'm kind of hoping Ala Mhigo is going to be our city hub, since it is the grand bastion before enemy territory.

So it looks there will be a level of customization with the Blue Mage. Even if it's just aesthetics that's got me interested in it.

Not really all that jazzed for anything else shown so far, but I might re-up to try the Blue Mage out if it's not just another DPS.

I'm especially glad it looks like boss abilities are going to learnable - it's another case of their making all levels of content relevant in some way. Hopefully we get some kind of equivalent to White Wind or something a little mechanically weird with healing.

And the level cap will be restricted to 50 at first? If that's the case I don't think this class is meant to be taken "seriously" in that case. It must be some weird experiment of theirs to see if they can allow something this variable going forward.

I was hoping for that to, but I suppose there is the Tharvanian set to make an appropriate glamour. Now here is hoping they have a cane that will match.

Blue Mage being my favorite FF job aside

I'm really glad they're experimenting with jobs in some capacity. I've whined about it here a lot already, but it feels like in their futile attempt to balance everything it's made every job very homogeneous based on their role, and this is the exact opposite of that, even if it means it can't, and possibly won't, take part in end game content.

I'd be fine with that so long as the content it can take part in is compelling and fun in its own right.

From what I understand the Blue Mage is a melee caster DPS. Or at least that's what the leak that got everything right reports.

#4213: Nov 16th 2018 at 4:23:00 PM

I feel like if it was just Red Mage 2.0 they'd probably of implemented it as a standard class with a typical level cap and have been done with it, with a lot of the suggestions to conform it to XIV's job design paradigms.

But it doesn't look like they're doing that, so I dunno. I guess we'll learn more tomorrow.

#4214: Nov 16th 2018 at 4:34:20 PM

Well they said melee support caster so I think it may be taking some off-healer and bard support abilities while being a primarly a damage dealer.

I assume the solo part is for the learning because no one wants to be in a party of Blue Magi who all have to take Shiva's Glass Rain to the face while the level cap is to avoid the disaster that was Ninja and having a bunch of newbs who don't know what they are doing clogging up all the DPS roles in high end content.

[up] Not to mention it would be a unique challenge all on its own to make you refight primals at HM or higher difficulties at an intended level completely solo, leaving it entirely to wit, reaction, knowledge and bringing in the proper loadout.

Hashil Since: Aug, 2010
#4216: Nov 16th 2018 at 6:30:53 PM

At least on reddit, a lot of people seem really upset by the level restriction so far, but given how solo focused everything they've revealed about the expansion so far is it's not surprising.

Speaking of Primals, I kind of hope each of them has something the Blue Mage can pick up. Ifrit's dashing attack and Titan's table flip would be pretty sick.

[up] Think it has a lot to do with not knowing how it works or how restrictive it's going to be yet, people are probably reaching the same conclusions I had at first where it meant the job wouldn't be functional for endgame raiding. I couldn't see that being the case ultimately though.

Just gotta give it a another day to see when they talk 4.5

Is it me or the enemies fought by the hunklander are the bosses in the Lost City of Amdapor?

wild mass guessAfter Garlemald, we'll go back in time to the 5th Astral Era, right before the great Flood at the end of the War of the Magi. History must be unwritten and all that.wild mass guess Hahaha.

FFXIV is gonna be the first MMO to have New Game Plus?? At least the first one that I know of...

[up] It's not quiiiite as exciting as that, it's basically just a switch to let you replay the MSQ/Job Stories/Side Stories of the chosen content without level syncing.

I boosted a Machinist but was too poor to afford the story skip to go alongside it, so I'm getting basically that. I still wouldn't wish ARR questing on anyone, much less Chronicles of a New Era.

Kingdom of Loathing has had New Game Plus for ages, to the point the meta now revolves almost entirely around it. Only almost, though, because [fill-in-the-blank] is not the game.
