Oh, regarding the "old hero has red hair" thing on the Calamity Ganon art bit, someone pointed out that it's a reference to Zelda 1 Link. His leggings are the same brown color as his hair there, so in the art they're made the same shade of red to achieve the same effect.

Assuming they were to do playable Zelda in BOTW 2, I wonder how they'd implement it.

I think it would be nice to have their abilities functionally 75% similar with the ability to swap between the two at any time.

For instance most of what Link can do with arrows Zelda can do with magic, but Zelda can hit elements like fire and electricity more easily and maybe you can curve the magic blasts. But both have access to the same runes. Maybe make the mechanics of gliding/climbing a little different between the two as well.

So most puzzles can be done with either, although it might be easier to use one or the other, maybe Zelda has less metallic weapons available. But there are still situations where one of the two is the clearly superior option.

I'm thinking both of them would have the same basic fighting style and weapon options, but Link would do better with melee weapons and still have the Shiekah Slate while Zelda would do better with long-ranged weapons and get some sort of magic skills, whether it's the Champions again or blessings from Hylia.

If Zelda is playable (which I think is slightly more likely than not) he's not going to answer that in a random interview. It'll be a big reveal in a bombastic trailer at E3 2021.

I'm in the camp of "probably not."

@Badwolf: Yeah, so? A lot of other fans of the franchise has expressed the want for it. And having Zelda fill the same exact role so often just gets old, frankly.

I'm in the camp of it being more likely that she's not playable though. We might get something where they have to cooperate for large parts of the game, ala Spirit Tracks and you're controlling both of them.

On a related note, I would like to see the return of the old 'get an ability in the dungeon and use it to solve the dungeon' style of planning. The runes in BotW were great, and some of them were incredibly creative, but getting them all right at the start felt like 'hey, here's our new physics engine! Please stick around!'.

Granted, the open world of BotW probably inspired that, since you could honestly just never find a particular powerup if they were hidden like the Shrines are.

It's been fun.

I've been thinking about that structure, actually. We've come up with a few suggestions in this thread for preserving openness while still getting cool stuff in dungeons, and an idea just occurred to me.

Suppose we have a situation like BOTW where there are four-ish major stops, big dungeons with story significance that drive you towards the endgame. What if you got a rune or item in each of them, and then the region surrounding each dungeon was full of stuff to find using that rune or item, up to and including sub-dungeons?

I, for one, would be stoked to play as Zelda. I love Link and enjoy having an attractive young man on my screen, but for once, I'd love to have nerdy girl Zelda solving puzzles and kicking butt.

An idea of how Link could be taken out of commission: he gets that glowing hand, right? Like what appears to be holding Ganondorf down. So maybe he's stuck holding Ganondorf in place while Zelda seeks a permanent solution (her own power having faded as mentioned in BOTW's golden ending) and it's a race against time because that weird hand is also killing and/or consuming Link.

The hand is definitely the gameplay hook. If Zelda is playable, it’s in addition to Link, not instead of him.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Link got the hand, but then Zelda were playable with the familiar suite of slate abilities, possibly with some upgrades?

Maybe they'd be a Battle Couple like in the cartoon/WW final boss fight. I find it funny how tons of non-game media had Zelda with a bow before the games did.

They're showing Cadence of Hyrule on Treehouse Live right now, in case you were itching to see some footage of a game that's literally releasing today.

Anyone know what time Cadence will be playable?

They eshop normally would have updated by now, so I'm guessing they're gonna say "available now!" at the end of the showcase of this game.

Geez, this guy is missing beats constantly.

So there are rats in the Breath of the Wild sequel trailer. Do you think they'll work like squirrels and drop some tiny food item when shot, or will the rats themselves be an elixir ingredient? Can I boil rats to make myself better at climbing or whatever?

I was hoping to play Cadence today during lunch, but no... I guess it'll have to be tomorrow.

It's been fun.

Cadence is available now.

This game is awesome. Danny Baranowsky's take on Zelda music is *chef's kiss*.

I've been playing it for the last hour and a half. I'm so used to the original Cot N enemies that I'm having some trouble adapting to the new ones, line the way Chuchus split when you kill them whereas slimes didn't.

lol yeah, this game is no joke. That Stalfos took me several tries.

Huh, I just fought a Stone Talus. I wasn't expecting there to be BOTW enemies.

Only just got Necrodancer itself yesterday on sale, so it'll be a while before I give this version a try.

Just bought Cadence of Hyrule; depending on how my experience goes I might get Crypt of the Necrodancer while it's on sale.

So how is the gameplay for Necrozeldancer? Because while the original had an absolutely undeniably bangin' soundtrack, the Rogue-whatever gameplay, on top of just keeping the beat, made me put it down out of sheer exhaustion after completing Zone 4 for the first time (and certainly not bother with the additional characters).

For one thing, there's moments of rest where there is no need to keep up with the beat.

I proved unable to keep in time with the beat when I played as Zelda, and it gave me the option to switch to a mode where the enemies only move if you do. I'm still managing to fuck it up. (I may just be bad at this type of game, since it's the first time I've played anything in this genre.)

Also you get to choose between Zelda and Link, and I'm not sure yet if this means you only get to play one of them in a playthrough. I chose Zelda, because I like mages.
