Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

I love how it's Yuna's job to literally dance on people's graves.
And what do you think their dance will be like?
Anyone here heard of Mystic Quest?
Heard of it, never played it.
We've got a trope page for it too.
Disgusted, but not surprisedPrototypes of figurines of Final Fantasy IX characters Damn, why Square's figurines always cost so much, they are so pretty! I would love to buy this Freya! And maybe Kuja, depending on how he looks in colour.
I'm so mad they're in pairs.
If I want Freya's I need to spend just as much for Beatrix, too.
They all look great, though.

Locke in OO
Heart of StoneVivi or Quina for me
New theme music also a boxI'm sure they can't be that expensive and I really wan-HOLYSHIT THAT'S INSANE.
And naturally they'll pack one popular character with one unpopular one...
BTW why did we get Amarant instead of Lani I can't believe I had to wait until Brave Exvius to ad her to my party.
Bleye knows Sabers.> Amarant instead of Lani
She's not a main character that's why, plus you know there's a myth that female action do not sell well
New theme music also a boxI was talking about why Lani wasn't a main character in the game itself.
I just have a major weakness for plucky mercenary girls wielding giant axes I guess.
Bleye knows Sabers.I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out what to do with Kimari's sphere grid in FF 10.
Every other character has a clearly established route, and all a first timer like me has to do is follow it. Kimari, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have a route.
I want to keep him a Jack of All Stats, and therefore want him to visit the other character's sphere grids as much as possible. But every time I try to plot that out, I find myself trapped behind sphere locks I don't have access to yet, forcing me to follow that character's sphere grid route when I really just wanted to visit.
If only backtracking was instantaneous — then I could just go a little way down Tidus' route, then go a little way down Rikku's, without having to commit to a character's sphere grid for any amount of time. As it is, I'm stuck.
I just send him down Rikku's path for tanky thief goodness.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.I have heard Rikku's grid is the best way to go as a first choice. I just wish I didn't have to commit to any one route for any length of time.
That's what the expert grid is for. The paths cross over more often there. I normally just Kimarhi as my thief until I actually do get Rikku, then ignore him after that; he's basically dead weight.
A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.I actually reached a point in my first run of FFX, late in the game too, where everyone was stuck behind locks on the beginner grid. Dunno what I did wrong, if anything. I ended up restarting with the expert grid and had a much better time.
Thief!Kimahri's stats at the end of Rikku's path:
HP 5244
MP 298
Str 52
Def 41
Mag 51
M Def 19
Agi 57
Luck 19
Eva 5
Acc 24
A fast tank that can dish decent damage but can't dodge for toffee.

Life is more fun with infinite MP.I think that just means you reached the end of their path. Undoing the locks would start them down their "recommended" second path.

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.The expert grid is one of the coolest things SE's included in an updated version. It feels like a different game early on.
I know the pseudo-job system in XII is similar but you don't really feel the effects of that until a ways in.
There were versions of X without the expert grid?
Speaking of XII, have you guys seen that the Switch and Xbone versions have new features? You can change a character's licence board (for if you dun goofed, I guess), and each character can have three sets of gambits instead of one, for easy switching. I could take or leave the first one, but the second one seems like a real quality of life improvement, and I, and others, would like to see these patched into the PS 4 and PC versions. No idea how likely that is to happen, mind.

Life is more fun with infinite MP.So which FFs are on Switch now? 7, 9, 10, 10-2 and 12, right? 8 being skipped is weird, 11 isn't. I can see the most recent ones being hard to port, though it would be nice to see 14 even if it's the least likely of the three. As for 1-6... those might pop up as classic titles in their original NES and SNES forms, or we might get a bunch of remasters all packaged together as a collection at some point.
Also, if that singleplayer version of 11 I seem to remember hearing about comes to anything, I can see it on Switch.

When will it stop?
