Another programmer created this custom editor some years ago and it never got finished due to other bigger projects the company had and lack of man power. Now I'm dusting off the cobwebs and trying to get a basic version out to everyone as soon as possible. It's currently in the beta-testing phase and our engineers and moderators are the current testers.
We will use this thread as the main hub for reporting bugs and requesting more features for the editor. Check the Formatting Rules
for a list of everything that can be done on TVTropes.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
- the Visual Editor is on about 85% of pages due to compatibility issues with certain markup and certain markup combinations. We will be working on getting it to 100% of pages over time.
CURRENTLY KNOWN ISSUES:
- Putting wikiformat as a caption displays it verbatim. Switching to Source and back fixes it.
- Adding indent on plain text turns it into a quote markup
- Missing common markup buttons:
- Indexing ([[index]][[/index]])
- Redirects
- Tables
- Small text ([-text-] and [--text--])
- When clicking on links it doesn’t always show correct link until you click “ok” or “cancel” then the correct one appears. Have to click cancel or okay twice to close.
- You can't add pothole (link) into an image.
- Keeping increasing indent makes text progressively smaller even though on the wiki only 3 sizes in quotes are possible. Switching to Source and back fixes the text size.
- If a quote is at the end of input, you have to switch to Source to type after it.
- Applying both Bold then Italics only saves Italics. It works correctly if it's Italics then Bold.
- Partially overlapping Bold and Italics is the other way around. If Bold then Italics, it works correctly. If Italics then Bold, the overlapping section uses only Italics.
- Folders aren't properly spaced
- Open/close all folders is full length of screen with same padding as regular folders
- -- doesn’t convert to — emdash
- Need option in profile to set TV Tropes editor on or off by default
- Switching editor off and on can erase progress sometimes. (should be fixed. report if it does again)
- Folders won’t open and close
- Can’t click after or before folders if there isn’t text already there.
- 500 error when trying to save after inserting folder
- Duplicate toolbar floats over current toolbar
- Clicking Visual Editor & Toolbar text changes button but does not activate or deactivate javascript
- Folder control works but doesn’t appear as a folder until you refresh editor
- Special characters don’t convert properly when sent to htmltosource.php.
- Spoiler markup works but is invisible.
- Label notes are being inserted incorrectly and existing label notes won’t work.
- Spoiler opens more than one after saving
- Strike formatting, Headings 4 and above, floatbox formatting and right to left have been removed since they aren't supported
- If labelnote is at the end of the line, you can't type after it. You'll be typing into either note display or note contents.
- Pop up boxes for all modals take up the full width of the screen.
- Night vision text blends in. Bg should be dark.
- The note for img modal says "Images should go through Image Pickin' before being added to a wiki article". Adding is free but changing or removing an image without approval is forbidden.
- Removed maximize and faulty “check spelling” buttons
- Folders don’t work on every-other activation of the editor.
- Putting folders in folders causes 500 error. (Prevented from inserting)
- Folder icon doesn’t change when opened.
- fixed link modal showing Type and source editor switch not parsing links correctly.

First version of the toolbar is about to go live. Its currently unavailable on about 15% of pages due to conversion issues. 10% of those have very small changes that can be reviewed by a moderator or engineer to activate the editor for regular users if they confirm the changes.

Okay I'm having an issue here — it seems whenever I edit a page all of its line breaks (\\) well... break. and I'm following the link to report it here.
I am aware this could be a problem on my end, but I've not installed any text plugins, so I have no idea where this is coming from otherwise.
EDIT: After checking recent edits and finding Characters.Party Crashers has the same issue.

Going to push a fix for this soon and then we can try doing null edits to those pages to see if they get fixed.
and what exactly is breaking about the line breaks?
EDIT: if you're talking about the line breaks \\ inside quotes, try a null edit and those should be fixed. I tried editing The Stupendium and it looks fixed now.

I was just editing something and noticed a "CONFIRM CHANGES" button appeared at the bottom. Out of curiosity, I tried it. The pop-up window had a link that sent me here. If it's of any use, the button seems to be working properly.

I've noticed the Confirm Changes window doesn't reflect edit reasons if they're in the edit reasons bar and doesn't show anything if the edit you did was adding or removing a space.
(They still go through and can be seen in the history if you press Confirm, however)

I noticed a "WMG" text-entry to this page that no recent editor in the past five days had put in; at least one that wasn't logged into the History. I reverted the "change," then refreshed the page. The text re-applied itself during the next Edit Post. It feels like it's related to this change.

The "WMG" formatting at the start and the extra brackets at the end. It's doing this on other pages too.
The only other time I've seen "wmg" as the start of a character-list bracket was on page-creation. Now I'm only seeing it during "Edit Post," which is why I think it's a glitch related to this; especially since "CONFIRM CHANGES" was new to me.

Yes.
I navigated to the page and saw them at the top. I reverted their "appearance," while noticing that that specific text was not in the History. I then refreshed and clicked "Edit Page" again, only to see the WMG pop back up during the Edit phase.

Ok, so I did some more extensive digging. Seems my whole report was stupid. The WMG and bracket-dash instances were formatting text I confused for phantom-edits. There was unsolicited formatting text on that page nobody added, but the instances of it "popping up on other pages" was definitely me overthinking. My reversion just needlessly muddled my assessment.
TL;DR: I saw the weird formatting on the unchanged page, started an Edit to revert it, saw the "CONFIRM CHANGES" button during my editing and misconstrued the situation. Something was amiss, but now I'm wondering if it was a simple glitch unrelated to this or not. Either way, I've probably made a fool of myself. I'm very, very sorry.

Hmm, I was trying to edit WesternAnimation.Anastasia, but the visual editor doesn't pop up.
It shows up in other pages though.
My next wishlist is for the visual toolbar to also extend to the Forums and the TLP.

When a page is in Night Vision mode there's a black bar around the Changed section of the Confirm Changes window, and text with NotAWikiWord markup is highlighted in both versions if the TV Tropes Editor has been activated.
Also, if you try to embed a link using the new editor, it'll just eat the word upon pressing Confirm, and trying to change an existing link simply won't work.

I'll let the CSS team know about changing the modal to match edit history for night vision. Non wikiword markup is purposefully highlighted to show its working and when you add it to new words from the toolbar, but the color for night vision needs to be more readable.
I'm able to change current links and add new links just fine, can you be more specific about when trying to embed a link?
