Made a page for the new Matthew Vaughn movie Argylle. Film is about a spy novelist who discovers he’s an amnesiac spy. They put out the teaser today. Should be a longer trailer tomorrow.

Cast is on the poster. https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_5280_0.jpeg

UPDATE: Turns out Howard is the novelist and Cavill is the character from her books. Don’t know how much of the synopsis will be accurate.

Given the plot, that's NOT what I expected the teaser to look like. Excited for this movie though despite that.

I grew up with cats. I LOVE cats. And if that cat dies, I am going on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge. I will scorch the earth and salt it so nothing grows again.

I thought it was about a cat who is a spy. That will be an interesting concept.

Oh yeah, no that is a cool idea. Make that movie instead, Vaughn. Do reshoots. We can wait.

But I’ll really be satisfied if the cat is a major character that DOES. NOT. DIE.

I don’t care if it isn’t even the right studio, Cavill better swoop in from the sky and save that cat.

Something special about the cat pertaining to Henry Cavill's life as a spy. No, I don't think he becomes the cat.tongue

Excited mostly for Dua Lipa. Big fan of hers and excited to see her do more acting.

Well that trailer suggests it's not about 'a spy novelist who discovers he's an amnesiac spy.' and more like The Author from Stranger Than Fiction writes spy fiction.

Also this is at least the second time Henry Cavill has played a non-James Bond superspy.

[up] Yeah, I was working off an early synopsis but it sounds like a lot has changed.

Anyway, what tropes are we seeing?

Oh, this is interesting. The cat in the movie is actually the director’s wife’s cat.

This looks like a lot of fun, even if Cavill's hair is... questionable. [lol]

What would you call that hairstyle? Heck, do you think there’s a trope for it?

A very tall crew cut, I suppose. Should be fine so long as they don't CG it away in reshoots. [lol]

Cavill's not playing the novelist. Bryce Dallas Howard is.

Not gonna lie, the pre-trailer stuff with the cat made me think it was a mix of Nine Lives meets Spies in Disguise, in that a decorated spy (somehow) turns into a cat, but needs to keep doing his spy mission anyway.

But now the trailer has me thinking it's Stranger Than Fiction, but the author writes spy novels that are somehow coming to life.

Have to say, the whole angle about "the real Agent Argylle" makes me wonder if Henry Cavill is just Argylle in the author's head and the real Argylle is someone completely different..

Side note: heh heh, Peacemaker and Superman are in a team-up. [lol]

I knew the plot for months involved an amnesiac spy—or a year at least rather. There's clearly gonna be more to it though besides that.

I've not read them in detail but a lot of the headline reviews for the film doesn't look encouraging unfortunately.

"Matthew Vaughan's frothy spy film lacks drama, suspense and a bit of heart and soul"

Basically it's too stylised, too many twists and turns so that everything loses all impact despite the best efforts of it's main actors.
