I remember Alex Ze Pirate by Andrew Dobson being online for anyone to read. What happened to the webcomic? I was just getting into sandboxing a work page for it here.

Humankind is like a train. No matter how powerful the locomotive is, it can only travel as fast as its slowest car allows it to.

I altered the title so that it isn't based on a specific question. I also moved the thread to the webcomics subforum.

^ Do you think that gay characters are that common?

It's not about being too common, read the link.

[up]Based on that description, there are many non-tropes on this wiki which don't serve the plot in any way. But this thread is not about that.

Oh boy, a thread for a Dobson work. Guess what's immediately gonna get put on the Overshadowed by Controversy page...

~PhiSat: I beg your pardon, but I've no idea what is so controversial about Andrew Dobson's work. Could you explain please?

To summarize and not get into gross detail, Andrew Dobson is controversial for being the true identity of one CattyN, a "teenage lesbian" (obviously neither of those things was true) who drew porn of lesbians kidnapping young teenagers and killing them via inflation. The kidnapping and murder parts were a constant in his work.

He also caught flak for drawing a comic "based on a true story" in which a Power Girl cosplayer was getting photos taken without consent and his author avatar beats up the creep. Lo and behold, real photos of the event showed up and the cosplayer in question was happy and consenting to the photos, while Dobson was in the back scowling.

He's essentially a well-known creepy lesbian fetishist who pretends to be a women's ally while drawing porn of them being abducted and murdered.

[up] Any chance it was simply trolling?

I know Dobson isn't a nice guy in general but come on, there are loads of womanizers who commit worse stuff than that.

Also I went kind of numb regarding this kind of stuff you find online, because you can hardly believe/verify anything these days. The internet is brimming with fakes and made-up scandals, just to cause uproar. Not worth wasting my time.

It was not trolling.

You can be numb to drama as a whole, that's fine, but Dobson is a very controversial figure, and a lot of people find him hypocritical and egotistical.

[up]Guess that makes constructing the work page even harder if not nigh-impossible.

I liked the comic though. It had certain vibe, which reminded me of the Monkey Island series, especially the third one. I'd actually love to see a rhyming insult swordfight between Alex and Guybrush. Or rather Alex and Elaine.
