It is an age of heroes.

From the very day the Saint was first seen in the news back in '39 hoisting that car over head, there have always been heroes. For decades now, they've protected the world from superpowered criminals, mad scientists, nazi nitwits, alien invaders, and even the odd incursion from other dimensions.

Regardless of their origins — whether they received their powers in some sort of accident, were born with their abilities, used tech to get by, or relied purely on their training and hard work — they have long vowed to protect the world and make it a better place.

However, in recent years, things have changed - and will only continue to change. Heroes previously have begun their careers in their latter days, while the younger heroes largely worked as sidekicks and assistants. However, auspicious signs point toward greater events on the horizon, and in addition to Saint Academy's establishment, a need was felt to create the "New Justice Initiative". An organizations by young heroes, for young heroes, to prevent the world from being caught on a flat foot by any sudden incursions or disasters.

But the very best place as of yet for any young Hero has to be Saint Academy - set up by the man, the myth, the legend The Saint, it was created to be a home for, and learning place for, young heroes. To develop their strengths, hone their powers, and advance into the world of superheroics. It stands proud and tall at the front and center of Super City. None have ever dared cause permanent damage to it, not that any have had the means.

With these legacy methods in place, The Saint felt comfortable retiring from active heroics, leaving the world to his successors.

However, the Saint’s absence on the world stage has brought about a rift - and more than a rift, an opening. The universe - the multiverse even - outside of the planet Earth is a vast, frightful place indeed. And the planets are aligning into a most auspicious arrangement. Anti-Heroes on Earth as well as Villains are seizing upon the opening of the Saint's absence, attempting to enforce their own will, view of the world, and hegemony...let alone what may well lay beyond. It is up to the young heroes of tomorrow to choose what world they want to create in this uncertain tomorrow.

Assuming there's a world left afterwards. Let alone a cosmos...

Hey everyone, this is Nick. I'm starting my continuation of MSA v3 from here, and you can feel free to submit your character - as either a new student joining Saint Academy's students from here, or one of your characters from the original v3. A word of warning that not all of the RP will be conducted at the school. There will be drastic changes that take place in the course of this RP. Be ready for them when they come.

There are also several types of students. First you've got those who got their powers in some sort of accident or experiment. These are some of the most common sort of students or heroes you'll see. Next up, you have those who were born with their powers. These can come with a physical mutation such as green skin, four arms, etc. The sky's the limit. Some students belong to another race, anywhere from demons to one of the numerous races born out of the Chaos Wave in the ‘40’s. Many of these come with innate powers and abilities that put them above most humans, even if it’s second nature for them. Then there are those who rely on tech. You might have someone who wears a suit of Powered Armor, or you could have someone who invented a belt that makes them shrink. And finally, there are those without any powers or real tech at all who make up for it with grit, gumption, and lots and lots of training. (Think Batman.)

CHARACTER CREATION SHEET

  • Real Name:
  • Superhero Name:
  • Age: 15-16
  • Race:
  • Appearance: Again, self-explanatory. Mostly. A requirement for anyone who wishes to become a hero is to have their own costume. They don't have to make it themselves; they can design it and then Saint Solutions will make it for them. Think of it as an individualized school uniform.
  • Personality:
  • Powers: Self-explanatory. That said, try and keep your character from being too overpowered. Anyone with Superman level abilities is a no-no. This also includes time-travel abilities. Healing abilities are allowed, but can only be used after a fight for the sake of balance. Teleporation abilities too, but they shouldn’t let the heroes poof out of a cage or go past a barrier like that.
  • Gear: Also self-explanatory. This can include various equipment or whatnot that gives you your powers as well just any weapons or gadgets you have to assist you, like a Batarang or grappling hook. Both tech heroes and Badass Normals will want to make use of this.

  • Real Name: Yasmine Khan.
  • Superhero Name: Gilgamesh, King of Uruk. Has begun referring to herself as Gilgamesh somewhat reguarly.
  • Age: 16.
  • Gender: Female
  • Race: 1/3 human, 2/3rds God.
  • Appearance: Warrior of old, ready to battle anew. Has some civies laying around, but has lately taken to early Bronze Ages and Mesopotamian fashion. Stands at 6'4 with a statuesque build.
  • Personality: Before Yasmin was Gilgamesh, she was Yasmin Khan, and some of Yasmin remains. She can be timid, awkward and clumsy, stumbling over herself and struggling to find the right words. She's spirited and determined, even if she's somewhat demure, lacking the confidence to step forward. But she possesses a good natured sense of humility, a sense of kindness that keeps her from so much as hurting as a fly. Things that could not be said of Gilgamesh.
    • But that was before her old self began to awaken. More and more, Yasmin or Gilgamesh has become increasingly arrogant and haughty, possessing a bold confidence. She can be joyful, boisterous, fun-loving and full of herself, but everything about Gilgamesh is at odds with Yasmin Khan and the person she used to be. Part of her enjoys being Gilgamesh and the power and confidence that comes with it, but the rest of her is scared. Gilgamesh was a decent person, but they were cocky and reckless, and willing to kill. Because of this, she tries to keep her past self contained, if only when her deadly traits come to the fore. But the angrier or more stressed she becomes, the harder it is to keep Gilgamesh locked away. It becomes even harder with each passing day, and she worries that Gilgamesh may overtake her completely. But she worries more that it feels right.
    • But even as Gilgamesh, she has a more sombre reflective side. She understands loss and sorrow, and even if she doesn’t tend to express it, she knows too well the inevitability of death. Given a second chance at life, she’s determined to live to the fullest and inspire others to do the same, protecting those she sees as her subjects and keeping her kingdom safe. As far as she's concerned, the whole world is her kingdom, and she will do anything to protect it. The nature of her past self is also a matter of contention, and can make her interactions with either sex... awkward at best.
  • Powers: Gilgamesh is powerful and durable, capable of tossing around cars with little effort and leaping smll distances in a single bound. She can even shrug off small explosions with only some mild burns and has enough Godly stamina that she doesn't need much food or drink, and can go without sleep for a day or two before needing to rest. But she isn't invincible. She's much younger than her previous incarnation, and her powers have yet to fully mature.
  • Gear: Gilgamesh wields her trusty blade, enchanted by the god Enki himself to summon powerful blasts of electricity. She also carries an unbreakable shield, blessed by their mother from their first life, Ninsun. Forged from the same metal used to build Gilgamesh's throne, she can throw it like a boomerang, homing in on her foes and always coming back. Combining it with her sword and incredible strength, she's a deadly force to be reckoned with.
  • Talents / Skills: Gilgamesh is a skilled fighter, capable of slicing enemies in two or slugging it out barehanded. She's also an experienced leader, having ruled her kingdom of old for decades. To top it off, she's a decent tracker and survivalist, having learned from her... friend Enkidu in her previous incarnation.
  • Backstory: Gilgamesh is the Gilgamesh. Born in the early days of Mesopotamia, they were a strong and mighty ruler, if somewhat haughty. But after many adventures and hardships, they were eventually humbled. They lived a long and glorious life, but death came to them in the end. But it was only the first step in their journey. Thousands of years later, a new age of heroes had begun, filling the land with great deeds and inspiring the masses. In their wake, the Gods felt it proper to resurrect one of the greatest heroes of all, using their past glories and sterling leadership as an example for this new breed to follow.
    • But there was a snag. To bring Gilgamesh back from the dead, they had to reincarnate his soul within the body of an infant. And they didn't have a say on who or what the infant would be. As a consequence, Gilgamesh was reborn in the body of a baby girl. The girl grew up in modern society, but her memories of her past life gradually resurfaced, beginning to taking hold as she approached adolescence.
    • Her memories and abilities partly restored, she sought to honour both the new world and the one of old as a hero, inspiring others to act with the same strength and conviction that brought her to glory. Even so, some of Yasmin Khan remained, and that part of herself wanted nothing more than to live a normal life. Unable to commit, she joined Saint Academy, hoping to give herself room to breath and fully discover herself before choosing her path.
  • Et Cetera: Gilgamesh enjoys fighting, drinking, action movies, and raunchy comedies. She also has a deep love for history, especially for that of or before her original incarnation.
    • Gilgamesh is also a skilled fighter, capable of slicing enemies in two or slugging it out barehanded. She's an experienced leader, having ruled her kingdom of old for decades, though the part of her that is Yasmin Khan often holds her back. To top it off, she's a decent tracker and survivalist, having learned from her... friend Enkidu in her previous incarnation.

  • Real Name: Nicole Forscythe
  • Superhero Name: Nike
  • Age: 16
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance:
    • Civilian: A blonde-haired, green-eyed, and fair-skinned young woman. Usually keeps her hair tied back in a ponytail. Stands about 5'5", and decently muscular. Generally has a tendency towards preppy clothing, and has a collection of colorful earrings and bracelets.
    • Hero: A simple white bodysuit, complete with a cape. On the suit's chest is Nike's symbol, a golden wreath, while the cape sports the image of a pair of feathered wings, also golden. She wears sturdy white boots, and a golden belt with pouches to store her communicator and other items.
  • Personality: Compassionate, kindhearted, with a strong sense of justice. Nicole truly idolizes the heroes that came before her, and desires to be a paragon of justice that lives up to the example set by the Saint. She understands, however, that no hero truly fights alone, and tries to strike up camraderie with her allies. Pathologically friendly, with a strong desire to help others, one suspects Nicole might have become a therapist were it not for her superpowers. Nicole naturally holds herself to a very high standard, and has to remind herself to sometimes relax.
  • Powers: Tactile Telekinesis: Nicole can apply large amounts of force directly to her own body and anything she's touching. The simplest use of this is to enhance her own strength and durability to superhuman levels, amplifying her own blows while reducing the force of attacks used against her. She can also freely move herself through the air, essentially making her the quintessential Flying Brick. However, the nature of her powers give her a few extra tricks and edges: she can lift heavy objects without them collapsing under their own weight, she doesn't need to put her back into punches, can turn a glancing blow into a full-on hit, and she can launch things she's touching at high speed without needing to throw them.
  • Gear: Nicole's cape and bodysuit, created by Saint Solutions, are made of a durable but lightweight material that resists tearing. Nothing particularly special, as far as super-suits go, but they offer more protection than normal clothing. The cape can also be used as a fire blanket. In her utility belt, she carries zip ties, a roll of gauze, and some metal ball bearings for use as projectiles.
  • Backstory:
    • In a world of superhumans, aliens, and even deities, Nicole was born to an utterly normal human family. She grew up watching heroes on TV and though she had no powers of her own, like many children she would wear a towel for a cape and imagine herself flying through the air and saving people from burning buildings. Unlike other kids, however, she realized that the Saint Foundation employed people without powers, even if only in supporting roles. Thus, she decided that if she couldn't be a superhero, she'd strive to support the heroes as much as she could when she grew up.
    • At age nine, she was caught in a villain attack at a mall. Nicole naturally hid inside one of the stores with her parents, and there she stayed. Until she saw a man trapped under a chunk of fallen ceiling. Despite being small and powerless, she ran out to save him, and impossibly, she was able to lift the rubble off of him. She began to clear a path through the wreckage, bringing a number of people to safety. In the wake of the event, she was naturally contacted by the Saint Foundation. Though too young to be a hero just yet, they'd taken note of her, and assured her a place was waiting when she came of age.
    • Her parents were incredibly opposed to this. Even as she grew into her powers, they worried deeply that she would get hurt or killed. Nicole acknowledged the possibility, but her sense of duty would not allow her to waste the gift she'd been given. Eventually she managed to get her parents to agree, and so she enrolled in Saint Academy with a heart full of hope.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Nicole has taken some basic self defense classes. While she's no master, even without her powers she can put up a decent fight.
    • Theme Song

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

  • Real Name: Amélie Jane Livingston
  • Superhero Name: Phyton
  • Age: 15
  • Race: Human (ESPer)
  • Appearance: Takes after her father more than her mother. A young girl standing at around 5'6" tall. Dressed in hand-me-down clothing from her mother, which have faded a little with age and are slightly too small on her frame. Has a preference for wearing open-toed sandals over shoes, due to her tactile connection with nature.
  • Personality: Due to the influence of her parents and her naturally strong sense of empathy, Amélie has become almost infamously kindhearted and sweet towards others even if she barely knows them. She is quick to be friendly, and assumes the best of anyone she meets until it's proven otherwise—though she has a habit of falling into a childish sulk whenever she's disappointed by someone she preemptively assumed was her friend. Amélie is ultimately desperate for human connection and inherits her mother's clinginess and insecurity, but she has a keen sense of judgement beneath her emotional exterior and is able to pull herself together when the chips are down. Though innately a little shy and awkward with new people, Amélie is usually enthusiastic enough for this not to get her down, and can push herself through any social anxiety if it means brightening up someone else's day. Amélie also possesses a strong respect for life of all kinds and dislikes when others take even simplistic life for granted, and has a special affinity with plants in particular due to her abilities. As such she very much enjoys being outdoors, and easily gets cabin fever whenever she's kept inside for long periods of time.
  • Powers:
    • Chlorokinesis: The psychic ability to control plants. Due to them being living organisms, Amélie achieves this by exuding telepathic signals that drastically increase her target's growth rate to obscene levels. In a similar way, she can cause plants to shrink back into infancy, however this is much harder for her to do due to how unnatural the process is. Amélie is able to summon ensnaring vines directly from the ground, push through solid concrete with her plants, and use them as tendrils or thorny spears against her foes. She is also able to defend others by shielding them with her vines, though it takes multiple layers for this to be effective. Because she has taken lessons from her mother, her power application is highly akin to that of Lucy's ink manipulation.
    • Toxigenesis: By internally breaking down her excess bodily fats and fluids, Amélie is capable of secreting plant toxins from her skin; either as a gaseous substance or a poisonous liquid. The effects of these toxins vary depending on what she has in mind at the time, and they range from relatively harmless temporary paralysis to agonizing, eventually fatal poisons that Amélie has vowed against using voluntarily out of sheer disgust. More miscellaneous effects include attracting pheromones (which again she has sworn off of using for obvious reasons) and more neutral calming effects to decrease tension in others who need it. Amélie is constantly researching new toxins for her usage, though given the moral quandary of manipulating other people with them she's always cautious as to how she uses this ability of hers.
    • Tactile-Telepathy: An ability inherent to most ESPers (to varying extents), Amélie is able to telepathically connect to others who are willing through touch alone; and she can also extend this ability through her controlled vines (albeit with less potency). This enables her to almost instantly communicate with her allies remotely or otherwise silently, which is a gift of privacy that can be useful for those too reluctant to share otherwise. The power has only limited capacity towards unwilling targets, but Amélie can at least instill broad feelings of intimidation into those susceptible to them.
  • Gear: Books. A lot of books. Mostly on plantlife, their toxins, and everything to do with her powers. Though Amèlie finds it gruelling to study, having good research material always helps when it comes to developing her psychic abilities.
  • Backstory: Amélie has been relatively tight-lipped about her background, though her mother Lucy Livingston has provided just enough information to clear her into Saint Academy. What has been written of her is that she's trained heavily in her psychic powers from a young age, and has obtained a medium connected to plantlife and their toxic secretions. Though she is still young in her hero career, Amélie is eager to use her abilities for the benefit of others, and hopes to become a medical practitioner or therapist in the future thanks to her skills with chemical compounds. It is to be known by the Saint Foundation faculty that she has traces of extradimensional DNA in her form, suggesting that her unidentified father is not from the universe she currently resides in. Besides that, it is known only that she lives with her mother and father in an unknown location; alongside a younger brother who she has mentioned on occasion.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Though Amélie's mother, Lucy Livingston, is on record at the Saint Foundation as a registered superhero, her father is not. All the information available on him is through Lucy and Amélie themselves, and they are both suspiciously wary in regards to revealing his identity. For what reason it's kept a secret is unknown, but Amélie at least is open enough to admit it's because it's too strange to explain in simple terms. It is at least known that Amélie's father is from another universe, for whatever that entails.
    • Her favourite season is spring, due to summer being too dry for her and autumn and winter causing much of her favourite plantlife to die. She dislikes the cold due to having to wrap up warm, which stifles her connection with her plants and renders her miserable as a result. She does, however, enjoy the rain due to its nourishing properties, and can often be seen outside even in the middle of a light storm.
    • Named after the protagonist of the French film Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, known alternatively as just Amélie. This was her mother's favourite film when she was Amélie's age, and as such she was given the privilege of naming her daughter in its honour.

Real Name: Pedro Manalo

Superhero Name: The Caffiend

Age: 16

Race: Human (Empowered)

Appearance: 5'7, somewhat of a runner's build, light brown skin, black eyes, dark brown/almost black hair (typically swept back).

Personality: Cocky and brash, but one hell of a Determinator. While he plays himself up as untouchable, he does have a more sensitive side that few are privy to see.

Powers: Whenever Pedro consumes caffeine, he can reach speeds of up to 100 MPH and gains heightened reflexes to match. He is also incredibly skilled in Escrima.

Gear:

  • Escrima sticks: Hollow, made from aluminum.
  • Utility Belt: Has holsters for his sticks as well as canisters to carry various sources of caffeine (typically canned green tea, energy shots note , and chocolate-covered espresso beans).
Backstory: By all accounts, Pedro Manalo originally seemed like an average boy: playful, if a bit rambunctious, but nothing out of the ordinary. That all changed when he was twelve years old and he had his first cup of coffee, after which he ran a lap around his neighborhood in just under a minute.

This discovery was not without consequence; Pedro would soon be barred from escrima competitions as the organisers believed that his powers gave him an unfair advantage in comparison to his peers. This wouldn't keep him down for too long, though, as he would try out various ways to utilize his newfound abilities. Eventually, he would go on to enroll into Saint Academy to put what he'd learned to the test, and perhaps make a name for himself.

  • Real Name: Lambert Rudy Lake
  • Superhero Name: Armed Knight
  • Age: 16
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: Just a wandering knight, do not forget that. As a costume, he wears a black and midnight blue suit of armor, with a blue cloak completing the design.

  • Personality: Normally he plays the role of a serious, brave, hard-working knight pretty well. Trying to be controlled and keep things at arm’s length. But he is while a kindhearted, honest guy as far as he tries to be, there is a fair amount of insecurities, and feels like he took way too big a responsibility. Even so, he feels he has to try and live up to it. Hides a silly sense of humor, with more appreciation for bad puns than he wants to admit, with rather unconvincing denials. Craftier than he seems with his nature, even if he is more reckless than one would think. There are some episodes of explosive rage, made worse by Deuil, but he tries to keep it under control.

  • Powers: Lambert is known as a Sword Mage, his best skills involve his ability to enhance his own body, to push his own body to move faster, be stronger and push his perception beyond human limits, effectively being able to face superhumans with a human body. However, pushing his body past a point will cause him to start self-destructing.

    • His other big skill is known as Smithing. Pushing his own power into the air, he can shape it into a physical form, mainly as swords. He generally needs to see a sword to work as a template, but has seen some interesting ones, with some powers such as a fire-shooting blade, Flamberge, or the wind-cutting blade Tatsumaki. Any weapon can be created and shot as if they were arrows.
    • Beyond that, he is a good swordsman, rider, hand to hand fighter and blacksmith.

  • Gear: Arondight: The sword belonging to the infamous knight of the Round Table Lancelot Of The Lake, an enchanted sword that time, magic and tragedy divided in two. Lambert has both halves with him.
    • '''Arondight Gloir:''' Representing the glory of the knight, the sword glows bright blue, with a purifying power capable of undoing curses.
    • '''Arondight Deuil:''' Deuil, on the other hand, is a cursed, fallen blade, symbolizing the fall of Lancelot brought by his own bouts of madness and the betrayal and tragedy brought by his romance with Guinevere and the fallout of that incident, including the death of his comrades by his hands. It’s made to hurt holy and purity-based enemies. It’s meant to be destructive, but it also can drive the wielder dangerously aggressive and, against certain enemies, as it’s marked with guilt and rage, it can act up and attempt to get the wielder killed. Gloir protects against the worst of it.

      • The light emanating from both swords can envelop the wielder for different effects, although it can have unpredictable effects on them if they don’t know about it. It caused one of Lambert’s eyes to turn red, after all.
      • The energy pulsing from them can be used to either sharpen them, send waves of energy or make the swords hit duller.
      • Neither sword is individually as powerful as its former glory, so there are things that can’t be cut or can get past its defenses.
      • The blades have their own attraction, as two parts of a whole, so as long as one is on hand, it can be used to bring the other or track them.
    • The Amulet of Gwendoline: A gold medallion containing the spirit of a horse that belonged to Lambert's mother, Gwendoline, called Gwen by her new rider. Smart, strong, fast, pretty fearless and with a weightless run, she is a valuable companion, if you can handle its cheeky attitude.
  • Backstory: Lambert is the oldest son of Adrian Lake and Claire Allard-Lake, a notorious, wealthy couple living in the countryside near Cornwall. Ever since he was young, he was trained in the sword and some tricks of magic of their own. Claire gave him a certain medallion as a gift, to have a companion to keep him safe. But a trip around the isles lead to an incident where a now fourteen Lambert got separated from his group, he ended in the middle of a monster attack, leading him to the place the swords were resting. The moment Lambert took them, he knew what they were. Somehow, the sword of Sir Lancelot got divided. Nevertheless, what happened is kind of a blur to him. As he took the swords, which he named Gloir and Deuil due to the flooding emotions that hit him, he fought and defeated the monster, but the details were kind of a mystery to him. On that day, the young Lake knew what he should do. He started to learn the secrets of the blades, and although the experimentation has yielded some… unfortunate results (such as a red eye and his father having to knock him out at least once), he believes he can make things work. A few things led him to leave his home country, saying good-bye to his old crew and to his sister to see some adventure in America. May the Armed Knight find the right path.

Superhero Name:tovathy (or tova for abbreviation)

Age: 16

Race:Locathah(a race of fish people )

Appearance: Civilian: He has blue scales and fins in his forearms, forelegs, and the sides of his head, he has a large dorsal fin that goes from the top of his head to lower back, he has webbed fingers and toes, his teeth are all sharp like a shark, in terms of clothing he wears an old sailor suit that like most clothing of his tribe was scavenged and tailored for his use, he is 5'9 tall

Hero: a Spartan-like armor with the helmet adapted so part of his dorsal fin looks like the crest they used to use

Personality:He is a curious individual and innocent to a fault believing anything they tell him and taking anything literally, he dislikes dry places and since he discovered ice cream it's been his favorite food

Powers: Depth caller: He can exert his will to anything that lives in liquids becoming able to control and empower the beings under his command

Aquakinesis:He can control and create water this water upon being not actively controlled for some time vaporizes quickly leaving no messes, this water can be used as a gateway to summon aquatic creatures under his command from one body of water to another no matter the distance, he cannot use it to teleport himself between gateways theoretically he could also summon objects between gateways but that would require him to know in which place of the ocean or other body of water are located

Physiology: due to having the Depth caller gen he has increased strength and mental fortitude and durability has increased in intensity, it seems pressure/salinity changes don't affect him at all being theoretically able to swim from sea level to the Mariana trench without any ill effects to his health not to mention his swimming speed is the same of a black marlin, his strength and durability is vastly increased if he is submerged in water that he hasn't created

Gear: a harpoon with wire and all

Backstory: The Locathah a race born from the chaos wave took home the deepest parts of the ocean and made their tribes all over the seafloor, they are a race of hunter/gatherer some rare locathah are born with a gene dubbed as the "Depth Caller" genome by the scientists who decided to study them (with their consent of course) the ones that are born with this gen reunite often with others of the same gen no matter how far are they and almost unanimously agree to keep particularly dangerous items hidden in the depths of the ocean to avoid its use by anybody, not even them this require a high level of willpower to not succumb to temptation, the ones who do and attempt to use these objects however must be culled

Kaygogo was born in the depts of the united state's sea and with the depth caller gen inherited from his bloodline, his parents were overprotective of him to a fault where he barely was allowed to go unsupervised until he was 13 making his childlike curiosity boom into everything he found doing multiple questions to the point of being overbearing for everyone, in one of his trips he found himself in the middle of a conflict between hero and villain in which he spectated like it was a movie he was amazed at the whole spectacle where eventually the hero was victorious he was inspired to become just like the hero he saw and so upon his 16 birthday he was allowed to go to the surface and enlist himself in the academy

Miscellaneous: locathah with the depth caller gen have trouble having offspring there is only 5% of an egg to be created making them very overprotective of their only offspring

Stuck being sane.
#11: Feb 11th 2022 at 10:10:07 PM

Real Name: Claire Darkblade

Superhero Name: Shadow

Age: 16

Race: Humanoid alien thing/human hybrid (More alien than human though genetically). Publicly, she tells everyone else (besides her parents) that she is a human hybrid with unknown non-human origin species, which is mostly true.

Appearance: Normally she looks like a 5'8" female human with long black hair (like to her ankles long and can be longer at times) and brown eyes. Her clothing is boring and practical. Like she will often wear the same clothing styles several days in a row (Yes she has multiple clothes which are the exact same!). Honestly, she sucks at being normal (by human standards) and that's fine by her.

Hero costume: A cheaply made black hooded cloak (This tends to fall apart due to her powers. She has multiple spares). along with black pants and long-sleeved shirt. And black gloves. She wears a mask over her face that is a gray mask with eye holes that covers her face from the nose up. She wears simple brown boots with this as well.

Personality: She is reserved and rather quiet. Mainly because of a desire to blend in with humans. But under this, she has no regard for what society considers normal (harmless things, she's not committing crimes!). Things like normal fashion are not worth bothering with quite frankly. She is strong willed and stubborn, out of necessity. She's always trying her best to not consume other things that should not be eaten (mainly morally). Being quite intelligent, she makes use of strategy to counter her relatively limited powers.

Despite her lack of social knowledge (rather she does not bother trying to fit in), she cares more for the things that do matter. Like being a good person overall and not revealing her inhumane ancestry. She spends an unhealthy amount of time and effort in trying to hide her alien species.

Powers: Owing to her alien genes, she was born with powers.

Shapeshifting: She claims this is her main power to EVERYONE ELSE (minus her parents and this is mostly true) and acts the part. She can change how she looks by using her own powers on herself. Although mimicking voices is really tough and thus her gear covers that. Experience will fix that later.

She can turn her body into various animal parts to make weapons/for utility use (she will gain the traits/boosts of the species in question). She still feels the impact/pain of the hits from mimicked body parts, so she opts for using hair/keratin/inorganic matter/parts with no nerves when possible. Her limits are more mental above all else, as explained later. In theory she has no limit for how big she can make herself, but after getting to a certain size or bigger the risk of losing herself mentally (temporarily) goes up. Her alien species takes over planets by shapeshifting themselves to such large sizes to overwhelm the natives. Only a few beings are needed to take over most planets...

She can absorb materials/other things into herself. This is very dangerous since if she absorbs the wrong materials it can backfire/harm herself quite badly. For this reason, she is very thankful that this is limited to inorganic matter voluntarily. This is because of a mental block she unknowingly made as a child.

There is a danger though, and if she loses control of this mentally she will consume any matter to satisfy her hunger and thus favors organic materials... anything alive is much more appealing as well. The more shapeshifting she does the chances of this happening go up. This is doubled with the fact that she's always hungry...

The real reason for such powerful shapeshifting is based off her alien species' niche: Being able to change their identities so easily (but never forgetting their true selves, so they are great spies and can be terrifyingly sneaky for the really skilled folks), which explains the mental... issues... with too much size growth. Thus, there's a real risk of her becoming dangerous to her own allies. This scares her and she refuses to tell anyone else that's not her mother. This is one more reason her shapeshifting is limited to the public eye, for her own mental health (literally!). Until she can get these issue(s) under control, she's a weakling by her kind's standards. Not to mention, her morals doubly limit her power wise. It's going to be rather tough to say the least.

She is unwilling to use this on living beings when it will hurt because she knows how horrible this is on the living being in question. Plants are fine though. Taking another person's hair is ok since removing hair will not physically hurt them. Taking their arm... is not ok. Prosthetic limbs are fair game as well (being inorganic, and replaceable).

Physiology: Due to her alien genes, she heals faster than normal humans do. And is more durable than a normal human overall. Speed wise she is only slightly faster than normal humans due to her human genes for her base speed. Her strength is higher than normal in general, and the upper limit is dependent (she guesses it’s on the lower side for her alien species but low by alien standards) on her exact form with the right shapeshifting (too young to actually lift a lot more + inexperience, pure aliens are much stronger than she is. Basically her strength goes up with the right shapeshifting. In theory she can go beyond that limit but so many things limit her from doing that). Not nigh invulnerable, but quite tough. As in, she can survive things that would kill most normal humans. Being quite young, she is unable to toughen herself up passively via her true power and this is something that is only learned by experience. She can increase her durability via her powers but must actively focus to do this, and this does not make her nigh invulnerable.

There are drawbacks though. She eats an absurd amount of food, way more than any normal human should. She's always hungry as a side effect of her powers. This lends to her eating a lot. As a result she's not a picky eater and in desperate times she will eat inorganic matter. Her taste buds are not picky and her digestive system is able to break down anything but herself with enough time. Her daily caloric needs are way, way, way above what a normal human needs and as a result has never been full her entire life.

Gear: A Voice changer. She wears this along with her mask to mimic others' voices as needed. And extra clothing because her powers wreck havoc on clothes in general. Plenty of snacks. Like... a lot of snacks.

Backstory: Claire has no idea how her parents make their marriage work at all. Her er... mother(? By her own admission, she has long given up on trying to identify her mother's gender. But it is easier to refer to her as female.) Her mother in fact is the alien, with her father being the human. Now how did that work? Even Claire has no idea how that worked out, and she will keep it that way (Mostly, thinking about it too hard only confuses herself more)!

She found out HOW dangerous and horrifying her own powers could be when she for a lack of better words absorbed a mugger's arm when she was younger (like 10ish). She reacted and lost control, not remembering what she did next. It was involuntarily done in a freak-out while trying to defend herself and when she realized what she did after getting control back, the mugger's arm was long beyond recovery (She did it in her mental freak-out which she did not remember doing until her mother told her) having been absorbed into herself. The mugger by the way, lived but got sent to jail for a long time for some other crimes. To this day, she still refuses to willingly absorb human/living parts still attached to the being in question for this reason alone.

She was raised on earth and from her mother learned about her alien species. Her mom was a social outcast for wanting to protect humans and said "Screw you guys, I'm going to protect humans ALONE!" with a lot more swearing in her native language thrown in for good measure. This meant that she left the alien world and went to live on earth. A one way trip. Her mother met her father, they got married and had a kid. The rest is history. To this day, she and her mother both refuse to associate with their home world because the rest of their species are horrible beings. Fortunely their kind's planet is far, far, FAR away from earth in the distance of some 4 digit light years away. They are quite happy it is that way.

Miscellaneous: She's a weirdo. And will willingly be a taste tester for anyone's food no matter how horrible of a cook they are or how inedible their food is. She has eaten far more inedible (by human standards) things which is her mother's cooking.

[up] I am actually mostly okay with this, with one thing. I've had it brought up to me that the molecular thing is a little overpowered.

Can you please keep it to just shapeshifting?

  • Real Name: Emmaline "Emma" Gorschet

  • Superhero Name: Monstrosity

  • Age: 15

  • Race: ???

  • Appearance: At a glance, Emma is a perfectly average teenage girl, standing on the shorter side at 4'11", with blue eyes, shoulder-cut brown hair and a charming smile. However, the longer one looks at her, the more unnatural she seems. Her eyes seem to glow with a piercing blue light from behind. Her hair billows and waves when the air is completely still. Her smile seems a bit too wide, with too many teeth that are a little too sharp. Something seems to wriggle and writhe under her skin, like thousands of worms. No matter how long one examines her, it is impossible to tell whether any of this is real or imagined.

  • Personality: Emma would describe herself as athletic, energetic, and outgoing. While she's not exactly dumb, she's not really book-smart, and tends to act without thinking. She avoids bringing up her powers whenever possible, because the fact that her own body is completely alien even to her terrifies her.

  • Powers:
    • Inner Thing: Emma's human skin is only a thin shell over her decidedly inhuman true body, a non-euclidean and incomprehensible mass of tentacles, eyes, and teeth. At a thought, either her whole body or an individual body part, such as an arm or leg, can turn "inside out", revealing the true body within. Her tendrils can reach up to 20 feet away from her body and carry weights of over 300 lbs, and her teeth are as sharp as swords.
    • Healing Factor: Any non-life threatening damage that Emma sustains heals over the course of several hours, allowing her to regrow entire limbs, or even her head.
    • Alien Vitals: Emma's biology is completely inhuman, and while she possesses vital organs, they aren't where anybody would expect them to be. As such, she can shrug off decapitation or holes in the chest (Admittedly not easily, because those really hurt) because that isn't where her brain or heart are located. On the other hand, even she doesn't know where her vital organs actually are, and she's terrified of letting attacks hit her just in case they find one.
    • Unsettling Aura: Anybody in Emma's vicinity can detect an inherent wrongness radiating off of her, which can lead to reactions ranging in severity from mild discomfort to instinctual fear, depending on the person.

  • Gear: N/A

  • Backstory: Emma was born as a perfectly normal human, to perfectly normal, if slightly strict, parents. She went to school, she hung out with friends, she hid out in bunkers during supervillain attacks, just like anyone else. Then one day she disappeared.
While walking through the woods, she had discovered a rift in the fabric of reality, leftover from a particularly dangerous villain's latest assault. She discovered it by falling in. The last thing she remembered was a completely alien landscape and a splitting headache before she lost consciousness.
When she next awoke, she was back in the woods, several months had passed, and she was no longer human. The strange energies of the world she had entered had warped her body beyond recognition. But even as she panicked and tried to get a hold of her new limbs and senses, a form of natural camouflage activated, her human appearance reforming around her in a shell that she could tell was only skin-deep.
As she walked home, people gave her a wide berth, and her friends' and family's relief to see her alive was counterbalanced by the sense that something horrific had taken her place. Emma herself was far from blind to their discomfort, and her choice to go to a superpowered boarding school was as much about getting distance as it was about understanding her new biology.

  • Miscellaneous:
    • Despite knowing her human appearance is only camouflage, Emma still considers it her "real" appearance.
    • She considers her full first name of "Emmaline" embarrassing

  • Real Name: Charlotte Silverberg
  • Superhero Name: None, yet.
  • Age: 15
  • Gender: Female
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: A young girl somewhere around 5'6," 5'7" ish with a short brown bob, kept perfectly manicured. Her casual, civilian wear tends towards trendy with bright colors, though Charlotte does also own more... experimental clothing with eyes, mouths, faces, self-portraits, and the like; literally experimental as she got a hold of them to test the extent of her abilities.
  • Personality: Used to be a cheerful if cunning girl but due to recent circumstances her personality has taken a sharp dive into the cynical, sometimes veering into depression. Since the emergence of her powers and the tight control of her public image her parents maintained afterwards, Charlotte is struggling with issues of self-identity and disassociation, but she does her best to hide it all with a smile, less as a way of not worrying others and more as a means to protect herself from inquisitive (even if well meaning) personalities. Basically she's got a lot of stuff to sort through but feels compelled to try and figure it out on her own, parents sending her to the academy to get help be damned.
  • Powers: Charlotte's powers can be summed up as the Manipulation of Representation; that is to say she can see, hear, speak through and control any visual representation of herself - photos, drawings, videos, even dolls and figurines. An unusual consequence of this ability is that any eyes or mouths depicted on her person she can also speak through and manipulate, as they are part of her "self-representation." She has a sixth sense awareness of being recorded, drawn, or modeled and in turn can erase visual records of herself by simply... walking out of frame. This extends to her shadow which she can send out to hear or communicate with, though it's unable to physically interact with anything or see. Beyond this, she has experience as a child actress with skills in acting, faking or hiding emotions, costume work, etc., and in recent years has taken up art and craftsmanship as a new creative outlet.
  • Gear: Clothing both fashionable and avant garde (depending on her mood), various artist's tools such as pens, paint, spray paint, etc. She also has a laptop and cellphone, but photography is disabled on both and by her parents' request her activities are both are to be monitored by the academy, much to her chagrin.
  • Backstory: Charlotte was once an aspiring young actress, following in the legacy of her mother and Hollywood celebrity Mabel Silverberg. Wanting her daughter to ease into acting rather than being thrown off the deep-end and risk burn out like other child actors, Mabel kept her in smaller, more local roles in local theatre productions and the like until she was 14, auditioning and snagging a supporting role in one of her mother's films. However, days before shooting, Charlotte became more restless and unable to sleep, dreaming of being trapped in a dark, blood red room, being trapped in a cage without bars staring across other prisoners wearing her exact face as a terrifyingly familiar giant toyed with each of them. These dream visions gradually grew clearer until she realized she was looking into the photo lab of the film's PR photographer. Able to see from the eyes of her photos she could see every spot of the room in full 3D, every photo of herself... Including photos Charlotte didn't remember him taking. These photographs were eventually taken in as evidence of the photographer stalking her and after he was convicted, her parents burned the unwanted photos... terrified suddenly by the sound of their daughter screaming as visions of flames devoured her.
    • In that way, that was how her parents discovered Charlotte's powers and as her abilities developed, they grew increasingly concerned. There were times when their daughter asked about things that she couldn't have known, spoken in front of their family photos. There were times when she would lose awareness of her surroundings as her mind focused on the POV of one of her photos. There were times when she would suddenly curl up and grow despondent, overwhelmed by all the sensory information each and every image of her sent all at once. Her parents eventually pulled her off the film and, both fearful of how her likeness was affecting their daughter and by how she might use this newfound ability, promptly got rid of all photographic evidence of their daughter both inside and outside the home. Schools IDs, yearbooks, once proud photos and video recordings of her young acting career all destroyed or kept locked away. A bright past with a promising future, suddenly destroyed.
    • Charlotte was kept under effective house arrest while her parents tried to consult superpower experts on what to do, fearful of letting her get photographed by the paparazzi, shutting down contact with her friends and disconnecting her access online. Her parents didn't realize their daughter was spiraling into a depression, caught up in fear and paranoia of her power until they caught her bleeding in her room, having cut symbols of eyes into her arm in a mix of melancholy, desperation, and experimentation. Realizing just how much they've neglected their daughter, after Charlotte's recovery they slowly let her see her friends again, brought her pens and clay so while she couldn't go back to theater and acting she could at least express herself. They still kept a tight control on whether or not she could be photographed, however, and they were still at a loss for what the best course of action could be. Researching, they thought Saint Academy's resources could do right by her better than they ever could and so applied their daughter to their academy. What the future holds for Charlotte now, who can say...
  • Miscellaneous: To say Charlotte has complicated feelings about her parents would be a strong understatement. She's smart enough to understand why they did what they did, but watching everything she had built up her life towards burn away, being told that the dream she worked towards all her life was now too dangerous, all of that on top of dealing with her abilities themselves have made a mess of her worldview. Charlotte feels bitter about essentially needing to start over from zero, but she still loves and looks up to her parents, especially her mother. Just one more thing to sort out.

Real Name: Lucy Williams

Superhero Name: Live Wire

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Appearance: A petite wisp of a blonde, Lucy stands five feet even and weighs in at 100 pounds soaking wet. Not exactly what one would call an imposing figure. Her deep green eyes aways seem to sparkle at a joke only she knows. As for clothes, her civilian fashion sense runs straight to the 'loud, bright, and obnoxious' aisle the second she enters the boutique. Thankfully, her powers come with their own costume.

Consisting of a white sleeved top with a gold crossed lightning bolt emblem, a long pleated blue skirt, white boots and gloves, a blue cape with the chest emblem on it, and a gold tiara, Lucy's outfit as Live Wire is a bit tacky, but she's seen worse out there. Much worse.

Personality: Lucy is as bold and vivacious as the electricity she commands. A free spirit, she absolutely chafes at any semblance of authority, but will follow orders in the heat of battle- if with great reluctance and resignation. She tends to be a chatterbox, and enjoys shopping and playing basketball.

Powers: Lucy is a magical girl, with powers themed around lightning and electricity. She has several unique abilities and tricks up her sleeve.

Lightning Leap- Lucy's only non-offensive power is a variation on teleporting, where she turns herself into living electricity before re-corporealizing. Downside is that it requires line-of-sight, can't go through solid objects, and is extraordinarily draining.

Shockball- Just what you'd think, Lucy throws a ball of electricity at a single target. Weak, basic, but it works.

Shockwave- An AOE-type move, Lucy unleashes a 360 degree blast from within her body.

Thunderstrike- Lucy points at a target and conjures a bolt of lightning to fry it. Heavy damage, but she can't keep it up long.

Wrath of the Storm- A gigantic thunderbolt strikes her staff, charging it up for a wide, powerful beam attack. Her finisher, but it's a last-resort strike; she'll be back in her civilian form for at least a full minute, which is an eternity in a superpowered brawl.

Gear: A three-foot metal staff while transformed, doubles as a lightning rod.

Backstory: Lucy was an ordinary girl until six months ago, when she was struck by a lightning bolt walking back from school. Somehow, the incident gave her the power to change herself into a new, superpowered form. She suspects that there's a good deal more to it than that, but nobody can give her any information, so she enrolled at Saint Academy to hopefully figure out just where her powers come from, and do some good while she's at it.

Other: She has a blog called Magical Miss, where she updates a handful of fans on her adventures and offers aspiring heroines advice. Traffic is... next to nil.

When she first burst onto the scene, stopping a mugging, a newscaster suggested Electro-cute for her codename. She responded by melting his camera, but the damn nickname keeps following her, to her annoyance.

Real Name: Artevin Holand

Superhero Name: The Passenger

Age: 15

Race: Mostly human with the latter of an unknown parasite named Kira.

Civilian wears have them in coving clothing on the top part of his body as well as a glove on his left hand.

The costume has them with a shoulder pad on the left arm with a long light brown trenchcoat the left sleeve ripped off for the parasite to move freely and a white plain mask to cover his face.

Personality: Artevin is a quiet person that tries to be a "Normal kid" meaning he knows that he can't with humility from his parasite with he is very mixed with but still try to work with them if needed, The parasite will act in an animal instinct if there are allowed to eat on human flesh, but for now they have an ego with there only care being themselves and it's host

Powers: Artevin themself are powerless but the parasite itself can fight

Backstory: Before Artevin even lost his arm, the parasite was an unknown space egg founded by a government science force when they saw an asteroid heading to earth with a living organism in it and so it was followed until it landed in a woods whereafter it was broken open, they found what looked to be an egg this egg was taken to an underground lab where like another egg it did good in heat where it hatched into what looked like a meat spaghetti with some human like eyes, from the small bits of learning this beast, It eats only meats, from how much it eats it grows more and more, and it can kill after a scientist tried to get a blood sample where there were grabbed and had the top front of there head bit off, after that, they slowly moved the monster into an armored truck to another more powerful lab for it.

Artevin was born from his father Gordon Holand and a mother he never has seen, but still, even with that he is like any other child with a liking to science just like his father trying to live up to his name even though his father just wants him to be happy with what he wants to do and wanting this his father tries to get close to his son by going on a climbing trip and learning to set up tents and start fires, but one night when his father was asleep, he was still awake needing to eat something when he hears a weird animal-like sound far away, his curiosity getting the better of him as he ran to the sound it got louder and louder until running right into the road in front of an armored truck

The panic of the driver and Artevin made the truck drive off running down tree before slamming right into an rock where the parasite used this to get out and eat the bodes before sliding away from the mess until meeting a bleeding boy his left arm broken off and at the last of his life the parasite still seen this boy as a tool for now until he meets a better one moving into his left arm and fusing helping Artevin to come back to life but now with a new "friend" who moved into the woods, Artevin behind as more of less a rag doll until seeing the climb and seeing a bigger meal readied to eat him until his host speak telling him to not eat his father and trying to stop the beast this gives time to Gordon how wakes up to the fleshly thing and knocks it out with a wood log along his son, later him, his father, and the parasite tried to learn from each other, with Artevin naming the parasite Kira and trying to control it, this help soon came as Gordon finds a school for heroes sending them there to help them.

Miscellaneous:The parasite themself has their own organs, The parasite grows from eating human flesh, The parasite can speak to Artevin in there mind, The parasite speaks in Red

  • Real Name: Brannon Hart
  • Superhero Sidekick Name: Pyramid
  • Age: 15
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: Short for his age with a thin frame and a noticeable limp. Black hair kept in something of a short bob and dark brown eyes. Uses a customized cane to assist with the movement issues.
    • Civilian: A well-tailored outfit that resembles a more conventional academy's school uniform.
    • Uniform: Befitting his role as 'home base', Brannon's sidekick outfit is built mostly for utility and comfort rather than style. Compression leggings to help with circulation given most of the work is done seated at a computer, goggles designed to reduce monitor strain but preserve detail and a thin jacket with an assortment of pockets to hold useful tools and a few snacks. All done up in a mostly black design with white highlights.
  • Personality: Brannon has the temperament of a hero hidden behind an acute knowledge of his own limitations, trying to put out the sense of being dignified and harmless kid with a limp. He's low-energy most of the time (possibly a product of the fact that attending Saint Academy has practically inverted his usual nocturnal schedule) and has a keen eye for whether something is 'just' but knows that he's literally 15 and legally disabled so any kind of justice beyond his hero thing can really only take the form of informing and advising people about the issues involved.
  • Powers: None! Well okay, he's actually particularly intelligent especially when it comes to technical matters but it's by no means to the level of your average super-genius. Really most of his technical know-how comes from reading the works of said average super-geniuses and figuring out what's within his own means to replicate.
  • Gear: Most of the time, he just gets by with his walking cane and a fairly robust touch-screen tablet loaded with troubleshooting programs.
  • Backstory: Injured in a home invasion at age five, Brannon was lucky to not be entirely crippled. His parents were well-off, co-owners of an electronics manufacturing business in the industrial hub of Gaulthorn City and while they survived the attack with little harm the invasion impacted Brannon's ideals growing up; he idolized heroes like Saint and lamented that the crime in Gaulthorn was handled entirely by the city's overwhelmed police force. Eventually, he convinced his parents to help him with an ambitious plan to bring a hero to Gaulthorn City... By building one.
    • Project Nightmare; a humanoid robot built to be assumed to be a human when seen at night and designed to look and act intimidating and monstrous. Of course Brannon isn't a supergenius and his parents had to spare some expense so a few shortcuts had to be made. Lacking complex automatic responses or even any kind of AI, Brannon needs to personally pilot the machine remotely from a specially-constructed 'Battlestation' in his family home.
    • Eventually, the sudden appearance of an adult superhero seemingly unrelated to the current roster of heroes drew the attention of the wider hero community. The first meeting between Nightmare and one of the heroes who works at Saint Academy rumbled the ruse and revealed a number of procedural deficiencies. So, in order to preserve the secrecy of the Nightmare identity Brannon was enrolled into Saint Academy in a "hero support" role while an existing hero took up temporary duty in Gaulthorn to help handle the crime situation.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • A lot of the strange facets of the Nightmare can be explained by its nature as a robotic proxy being piloted by Brannon: It's literally packed with advanced sensors and gadgets, most of its movement is pre-programmed sequences reverse-engineered from video games and the Nightmare's strict aversion to killing despite being designed to be a terrifying figure stems from Brannon still idolizing paragon heroes with their own codes of ethics.
    • It seems that introducing what is effectively a superhero (in the form of the Nightmare) to Gaulthorn City has started to effect what could be described as its 'crime ecosystem'. A lot of the low-level crime has become too afraid to work at night while new more colorful personages who can command an entire gang or keep up with the Nightmare in a fight (effectively proto-supervillains) have risen to prominence.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Real Name: Edison Lake

Superhero Name: Flare

Age: 7 (chronologically)

Race: Fictional

Appearance: A real hero! He’s constantly glowing as pieces of the “real” world strike his body and are destroyed. This light can be “turned down” but never off, making a secret identity very difficult to maintain. It will grow in brightness at will or if he’s feeling very emotional. His pupils are also a bright white, which some find off-putting.

Personality: Edison remembers being brave, kind, friendly, outgoing, and always willing to help others and lend a hand....in a word, heroic. He never had any doubts about what the right choice or action would be in any situation and prided himself on his integrity. However, since his arrival in the MSAU, he's started to realize his emotions and inner life are far more complex than he expected. Anger was common, but not irritation, disgust, or frustration. He recalls strong feelings for other characters, but not the reality of affection or love. Edison will respond and act the way he thinks he ought to in a situation, but this is mainly a reflex.

Powers: The Flare has had an inconstant level and range of abilities thanks to the mental issues of his Creator. At times he’s been able to crack a planet in two or melt steel with a wave of his hand, and at others, he’s just had flight and eyebeams. However, he’s currently a Glass Cannon the following:

Superhuman Body: His strength, speed, reflexes, endurance, etc. are higher than the most athletic human possible (think Captain America). If he bleeds it will be a pure white liquid (he doesn’t like to think about what this means).

Flight: Edison can fly and maneuver at a high rate of speed (break the sound barrier) and agility.

Heat/force beams: Either from his eyes or hands. He can switch between them and has learned how to emit bursts of force from his fists to enhance his punches. They usually appear as white/gold beams (similar to marble).

Duplicates: He can create up to five copies of himself to perform simple tasks. They don’t get bored or tired and have no independent will. They can also fly, but don’t have any of his other powers. A good punch will make one disappear and they must remain within line of sight. All of them appear to be pure white and sans cape.

Weakness: If he’s injured, copies of his books will simply burst into white flame and turn to ash almost instantly. The bigger the hurt, the more and bigger the explosion. The reverse is also true: destroying issues of his comic will injure the Flare (the only online copies that exist are on Simon’s old computer). Simon is currently serving time in prison but is still allowed to write (with paper and pencil). Any new Flare stories will instantly affect Edison.

Gear: He carries a small taser and a bag of cashews in case he gets hungry. Also, a pen for autographs (hey, you never know).

Backstory: The offspring of a chemist and a jet-setting archeologist, young Lake had a good education. He played sports, tried to learn languages, and in general, was a pretty regular boy. That was until his parents brought home a strange meteor that had somehow been reshaped into a geometric shape. As a team, they worked to restore it for display in a museum, with one mother translating its mysterious symbols and the other trying various substances to clean off burn marks and dirt. Some unknown combination of spoken and chemical locks must have been accidentally opened. Brilliant energy flooded out, imbuing the young man (as well as his pet spider Pickles) with strange powers. After engaging in some cautious testing of his abilities and creating a costume, the hero named Flare set out to amaze the world and fight evil!

At least, that was the barebones origin story that Simon Diebler had created for his first issues of FLARE. It wasn’t as iconic as he’d like, but it would serve, and for the first year or so no one complained. The comic was never a massive hit (since superheroes were real anyway) but it achieved low-level cultural osmosis such that most people knew the basic facts of Flare’s life, if not the minutiae. Five years of great-to-mediocre stories later, however, Simon was facing real writer’s block, and that’s where the trouble began to unfold. He was a reality warper, and no matter how trite or uninspired his stories people had no problem in visualizing them as if they were real simply because of his power. Stress from the demands of his writing, social life, and general malaise pumped more and more emotional energy into his pictures. Something had to give, and one day young Edison Lake simply popped into existence.

He was obviously very confused, and Simon wasn’t sure how to explain what had happened. A glance at the news told Edison that this world had heroes he’d never met and crimes he couldn’t imagine (the comic was rated PG-13). Thankfully the Saint Foundation was alerted to the energy spike and sold them both on the Academy. No one’s yet realized that Simon’s powers and the pressure that made him appear haven’t gone away, and he’s still trying to write…this time, perhaps a regular villain to spice up his storylines and a turn to the standard battles of other comic books?

Miscellaneous: He's also developed an unsettling interest in fire. Not quite pyromania, just watching fires and feeding them. It’s nothing to be concerned about. Probably.

Real Name: Felix Rae Livingston

Superhero Name: Crystalline

Age: 14

Race: Human (ESPer)

Appearance: Darkish brown hair, grey eyes coming from his mother, a lanky / thin build. When using his powers, his skin tone morphs to reflect what he's working with.

Personality: While nowhere near as extroverted as his father or especially his sister, Felix is comfortable enough talking to others to get by in most social situations, though if he has the choice he prefers to be left to his own devices so he can read or listen to music in peace. He's not against making friends, he just prefers a small circle of them rather than befriending literally everybody like Amelie would. However, much like her, his sense of justice and his moral code is strong, which means that if someone needs help, Felix is likely to be a first responder, or at least someone who can keep a cool head and get someone who can do what he can't.

Powers:

  • Crystallokinesis: Through making use of silicon and oxygen in both the environment and in his own body, Felix is able to create and manipulate crystals, primarily quartz, and use them for offensive and defensive purposes alike. Examples of this are being able to launch crystals as projectiles, mold them into shapes of weapons and shields, and even encase himself in a barrier made of quartz.

  • Tactile-Telepathy: Like his sister, Felix is able to establish telepathic communication with those he touches, but it requires the use of his physical body to do so. Unlike her, however, he is able to have a greater degree of control and impact on less willing targets, enabling him to pry into their secrets. For obvious reasons, Felix tries not to do this unless he feels it's necessary, and would rather keep that level of invasion a secret.

Gear: An encyclopedia of minerals and gems for easy reference. Ear buds connected to his phone for music to help him relax. A piece of crystal hanging around his neck that comes from his father's home.

Backstory: As Felix is the younger brother of Amelie Livingston, his origins are similarly shrouded in mystery, but after passing field tests and written exams given to him, his mother gave him the choice of enrolling into Saint Academy a year early or attending another school. Despite the urge to prove himself as his own person, Felix decided on the former so as to see if Lucy's alma mater was all it was cracked up to be.

Miscellaneous: While both he and Amelie had been informed of and warned about the darker sides of their parent's respective lineages, Felix in particular seems to have taken these warnings and internalized them, causing him to be more than a little fearful of what he could be capable of if he lost control or lost his way. As a result, Felix can occasionally slip into manic moods where he gets obsessed over a task at hand, becoming irrationally irritable when someone tries to divert him from it.
