Mank seems the favorite to win Best Picture. It’ll be a real bummer if Soul is not nominated too even though it’s bound to win Best Animated Feature (and deservedly so).
I’m bummed that "Only the Young" from Miss Americana won’t be getting a Best Original Song nomination (particular because it’s not on the shortlist).
I also wish the Academy didn’t do the Shortlists because I miss getting to see the full eligible songs list.
Glenn Close and Amy Adams have 13 nominations and 0 wins between them and they have awards show chatter from Hillbilly Elegy, but I have been kinda hesitant to watch it since the author is one of those right-wing venture capitalists (like, “funded and advised Parler” right-wing).

I've heard that it's... not good, and that their performances were just okay (I do like both actresses) but I haven't seen it. Of course, neither was Crash or any number of other movies that have won Oscars, and they like 'compensation awards' so who knows?

Close has gotten every major nomination so far. So I could see her getting in. Adams only got the SAG nomination so she might have a shot. However, I haven't seen the movie.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadIf Judas and the Black Messiah doesn't sweep it'll be another failure of recogntion (expected by now, really). Film is incredible (by blind coincidence I just watched it today).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Oh I agree. Great movie. Even if it doesn't sweep, Kaluuya is definitely getting Supporting Actor.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadNomadland will win.
I wonder if Tiger King has a shot at being in the Best Documentary section. But then again, it was a series instead of a movie.
It's been 3000 years…I know Chadwick Boseman is the favorite to win Best Actor, and I think he deserves it having seen Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
Nomadland will probably win Best Picture in my opinion.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI keep putting off my Ma Rainey's watch but I hear that even those who didn't like the movie that much loved Davis's and Boseman's performance. I can see the Academy pulling a Heath Ledger and giving it to him.
Emmys.

Tonight is the Globes. Which usually has some very minor overlaps with the Oscars. Anyone else going to watch?

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadNot me, and I'll probably skip this year's Academy Awards too. Why you may ask? Well, let's just say there's this trend with actors/directors making a political speech in every award shows. I'm not against it if done right and look like they're actually care, but now I feel like they're just pretending to be "woke" in order to cover up their own controversial social commentary on Twitter making them look like hypocrites (Ricky Gervis). I don't know, I may be wrong, but it just my opinion.

Well the nominations are Monday. Any guesses on what might be nominated? And what might be snubbed?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI’m thinking Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Soul will be the two big winners that the thread will focus the most on. Otherwise, I have no clue.
It's been 3000 years…If anyone has seen Sound Of Metal and tells me Riz Ahmed doesn’t deserve to win the Oscar, you’re lying.
Riz Ahmed is brilliant but I raise you Daniel Kaluuya in Judas and the Black Messiah.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Different categories, dude.

I donn't know about that. Hypothetically he'd be supporting, but there have been double digit times where supporting ran as main and vice-versa.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Boseman is likely to get a nomination for Best Actor as well, at least.
Delray Lindo probably should be recognized for Da 5 Bloods, but I'm not sure he will.
On the more outside track, Mads Mikkelsen might make an appearance for Another Round.
And Anthony Hopkins is always in contention.
If Kaluuya and Stanfield are both in the running for Best Supporting Actor then who the heck was the main character of that movie?
Other than that it looks like a pretty standard list. No particularly shocking inclusions or snubs (I would have liked Regina King in Best Directing but eh). A little embarrassing that it took this long to have two women in Best Directing and an Asian man in Best Actor but it is what it is.

Well, the animation category has no surprises, so Soul’s gonna win.

It's been 3000 years…Mmm, a shame neither I'm No Longer Here or La Llorona made it to the foreign language category.
Considering the 93rd Annual Academy Awards are in April, and we are now getting nominations for other major award shows. I figured it might be time to start a thread for the upcoming Academy Awards. So, what films do you guys think will get nominated, and which films will win.
Here's my list for who might/probably win acting ones.
1) Best Actor: Chadwick Boseman for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
2) Best Actress: Carey Mulligan for Promising Young Woman
3) Best Supporting Actor: Daniel Kaluuya for Judas and the Black Messiah
4) Best Supporting Actress: Amanda Seyfried for Mank. (This one is more up in the air in my opinion, due to how all over the place the nominations for this category has been)
