They announced a revival a while ago featuring a majority of the main cast reprising their roles, but today more info was revealed.

http://nickalive.blogspot.com/2021/02/first-details-about-paramount-plus.html?m=1#.YB8IVmfy2Ao.twitter

"As we already know, Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor, and Nathan Kress will all reprise their respective roles as Carly, Spencer, and Freddie. Jennette Mc Curdy is not expected to return as Sam, with two new characters set to be introduced to the revival: Carly’s new best friend and Freddie’s step-daughter."

Ahhhhhhhhh. My old childhood favourite. Back in the days before I'm too old to watch. I hope the setting and the plot gets a big, massive update. Of course, the charm should still remain.

Hopefully it'll be less creepy with Dan Schneider not at the helm.

...I will give it a watch solely out of nostalgia for the old show. I still want to give Girl Meets World, Fuller House, and The Connors a chance.

Curious how they'll write Sam out. She was a mainstay and it would have been interesting to see her character reexamined in 2021 television standards, whether the Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male would be discussed , and just seeing how she'd have progressed since Sam & Cat's lackluster finale.

It's especially weird to me she's not expected to come back given Jennette's the only member of the cast I'm aware of continuing her television career. Jerry Trainor had a show on Nick at Nite briefly and Nathan Kress popped up in Videogame Highschool but I haven't seen or heard of them being in any other series.

The dynamic between Carly and Sam was a centerpiece of the show, and Sam's storylines started to dominate the later seasons. So, again, good luck making the show as compelling. That said, they're "free of family-friendly restrictions" so, let's be real, without Dan Schnieder this show still wrapped itself in a lot of dirty humor and it's going to be In Name Only if they don't do that.

I'm a bit tickled to see how much Getting Crap Past the Radar they'll get away with now. I always wanted to see the Kids Next Door sequel come to Adult Swim, same as how Samurai Jack got revived and suddenly things got a lot darker. It's intriguing to see shows made for kids reinterpreted for older audiences.

I mean if they could take Neville or Nora and apply Reality Ensues to some of the hijinks from the original show, that'd be neat.

Oh, and of course, WHERE. THE HELL. IS GIBBY.

Jennette's been the most critical of Icarly and Nickelodeon as a whole, and she also quit acting in 2017 to focus on directing, so her not coming back isn't surprising.

[up]Didn't Nora get arrested twice? How can you get more real than that?

Didn't know that about Jennette. But surely actors have "quit" and still come back to things later.

I don't know, like, the original series would have episodes that ended with Sam pummeling a house full of people to save Carly and then next episode that was all forgotten about and nobody called the cops. With Nora maybe they actually take a look at how that event affected Carly and the others. I mean, it's not every group of friends that shares a kidnapping experience.

Sam would be likely to be kind of hanging over the show, even if I am not sure how likely it is to have Jeannette even as a one-time guest. How do you think she'd be talked about?

Wake me up at your own risk.

If they're banking on the possibility on her eventually returning, they'll probably just talk about her in passing up until she reappears.

If she doesn't come back they'll hand wave some explanation, possibly involving the events of her spinoff show.

Like someone mentioned fuller house above, and Michelle got written off pretty easily despite taking over the show after a certain point.

She really doesn't think fondly about her time on the show.

So i really don't expect they can convince her.

I'm not surprised. Now that I'm older and have thought about it, iCarly...wasn't that good. All the "lulsorandom" humor (to say nothing of the double standards for abuse that were played for laughs) was really...eh.

I think a show about the internet in 2008 coming back with that we now know about it was a cool idea even if it seems like they're not doing much with the actual webshow.

Eh, I enjoyed it for what it was. It's a kid's show through and through and [up] yeah, the idea of kids starting a webshow and becoming national celebrities is absurd.

It's one of the few Nick live-actions with any sense of continuity that I liked. Apparently it did quite well too, helped launch Miranda and Jennette's careers.

The show was very prescient at the time, recognizing the popularity spike that would occur from regular people speaking their minds to a wide audience (especially if they are attractive too, I still laugh at the "Hey, Carly's pretty hot" comment in the pilot). Youtuber conventions attract similar numbers to Comic Con.

I didn't watch the show all the way through, but there are moments that was classic comedy for all ages. Gibby and Nora's fight in ipsycho remains brilliant.

I recall how "iWon't Cancel The Show" gave a good explanation for Sam not being there, so I think there could be a good explanation here.

I am exited for this. Though I was never super big on the original iCarly. I was definitely more into Victorious. There several episodes I remember fondly, and Spencer was always of my favorite live action Nick characters.

As for Sam not being there. My guess for the in-universe explanation. It's because she currently lives in Hollywood with Cat. Out of Universe however? I don't get it.

Basically Jennette quit acting and hates all the stuff she worked on, so she probably won't come back to iCarly.

Honestly the real odd man out is Gibby, because I don't think his actor has really been doing anything outside of youtube.

I don't know if it was everything she worked on. Growing up as a child actor wasn't easy for her, which is why she left acting.

Jay Kogen said that filming for the iCarly revival starts in March and is intended to come out in May (intended, but it's not set in stone yet).
