Speaking of, how's the progress on the acquisition? Last I checked, I heard that the FTC and (especially) the European Union was looking to block it.

There were threats and overtures to block it and Microsoft was likely to make consessions to prevent one.

This very much feels like a concession on their part.

An employee's working under Yuji Naka claims the man was a shitty boss. Most important things are he made the team work weekends and wanted Arzest to delay the game and do a couple months worth of work for free.

I linked to a Twitter post summarizing the situation because the original source is an article in Japanese.

Not surprised, given the way he treated the American employees as well.

Also he's be arrested for insider trading AGAIN based on a Final Fantasy VII mobile game.

Looks like he privated his account. Guess he should have stayed out of the kitchen since he couldn't take the heat.

I mean, what else would happen? People love to harass others on Twitter, regardless of whatever reason. He's a controversy now. Smart move, really. Sadly the rest of his moves weren't smart like that one.

My only thought on the whole Balan Wonderworld thing is what I've said many times before; Criticism is important. But you have to constructive about it. So him being fired for being an ass in general makes sense. Of course they're not going to listen to his words. The best and honestly only proper method is to explain the issues while being respectful. (I'm not going to go into the workplace culture issues either, since that's something different from what I mean in general. No less a problem, of course).

Though him being an ass may not have been what actually got him fired. It has been noted that the timing of his firing would line up with when his first insider trading allegedly happened.

So maybe Squeenix suspected Naka was doing something really shady and fired him just to be safe.

I thought Yuji Naka left on his own accord… which I realize dodging insider trading investigations is probably more of a reason why.

If I'm not mistaken on the timeline (correct me if I'm wrong) he originally claimed as much, framing it as him choosing to pursue other ventures of his own accord.

I believe Naka's lawsuit against Square Enix was also touted by him as a victory, before later records showed it was settled out of court.

This would have made a lot more sense before the deals Xbox made with Nintendo (Call of Duty on Nintendo consoles for 10 years) and Valve (a similar deal about CoD on Steam).

Probably had some red tape to deal with first.

This is likely the reason Phil Spencer made the announcement, to make it easier to get through this lawsuit.

Also, speaking of Activision-Blizzard: reports from former and current Diablo IV devs speak of mismanagement, likely crunch to reach launch, and an added sexual assault subplot.

More Blizzard scandals? How utterly shocking. Nobody could have possibly predicted this turn of event.
