ROCEJ sinkhole removal

That is true, regardless of origins, the meme has gone far beyond its source and is engrained into Internet culture.

Which is the original essence of Memetic Mutation anyway.

Something that's come to my mind while checking back at the related page for ROCEJ sinkholes - I'm in favour of keeping commented-out warnings and rewording them to not use ROCEJ sinkholes rather than removing them entirely, but do we need those ROCEJ sinkholes if they're included in those commented-out warnings, and thus are only going to appear on the edit window and the source code? I don't see much reason to keep it that way if they can't be clicked and only seem to pad the related page's list out even more.

Hello everyone. I'm a bit confused about the scope of this thread, to be honest. I'm not understanding when and if links to ROCEJ are allowed.

To clarify: in YMMV.Vikings, under Critical Research Failure I made an entry concerning the terminology of Kievan Rus', and while my entry was kept, the ROCEJ link I put was removed^note I put a ROCEJ because I mentioned that, back then, Rus/Russia/Ruthenia applied for all East Slavs without the distinctions we have today. Needless to say why such discussions tend to be controversial today.

Instead, in Characters.Anastasia, the ROCEJ link is still present in the folder about Czar Nicholas II in his Historical Hero Upgrade entry. Was it left there on purpose, or it has to be deleted as well?

On a related note, Critical Research Failure is now an index, so it shouldn't get examples.

I'm fairly sure the one on the Anastasia page is simply a case of a ROCEJ sinkhole that we haven't got round to removing yet. If that is the case, though, I'd be a bit surprised, since it's been on the page since March 2018, so I get where you're coming from. In any case, I've edited out the sinkhole with something better.

I'm looking at the ROCEJ sinkhole on the decription for Outdated Hero vs. Improved Society. Obviously, it shouldn't be there as per what the ROCEJ page itself says about linking to it within trope descriptions, but I think it would make even more sense to replace it with the text of the attached footnote. Would that make sense to do?

I ended up finding more sinkholes on the redirect that spells "Judgement" differently, and there's still a number of the "and that's all we'll say" variety. I'm slowly working my way through them.

One of the mods gave me the ok to clean up ROCEJ sinkholes that only serve to remind people of the rule in direct contradiction to what the page itself says about whether or not tropers need to be reminded of the rule. So with that in mind, and staying out of sandbox pages and pages where the rule itself applies as the example, I've managed to reduce the related pages count down to 90. We've come a long way since the days of over a thousand, and hopefully that'll do some good in killing off the habit that led to this cleanup project.
