1 in 10 heroes will suffer a fatal injury during their first five missions against any Malevolent event.

Of the remaining number 3 will suffer career ending injuries, either physical of mental, within the first year.

Of the remaining 2 in 10 heroes will remain fit for duty until their retirement at age thirty-five.

Somewhere in between these numbers are the few who while still fit for duty suffer the effects of Burnout, and are thus moved to lighter duties.

-T.o.B. employee handbook

Two hundred years ago the rift between our world and another opened, spilling forth odd energy over the world. Following this incident further odd events became more prevalent, including people developing odd religious tendencies toward beings and concepts seemingly out of the blue, and a small subset of the population developing abilities that allowed them to manipulate the world around them in unnatural ways.

During the first year after this event the first Cult Malevolent summoned what is now classified as a Rank D Incursionary Deity, more commonly known as a Malevolent. Ordinary weaponry proved utterly ineffective against the creature, and the world around it warped and changed into a space unfit for habitation for humanity. However it was discovered that those humans who developed strange powers from the event could damage the creatures and destroy their physical forms in reality. Damage caused to the world by a Malevolent proved more difficult to purge, but through certain abilities the world was able to be mended.

To counteract the new threats of both Cults and Malevolent's a new organization was created known as the Tower of Babel, whose mission was to gather together as many Human Reality Binders, more popularly known as Heroes, to battle against Cults.

However constant battles against the Cults and the odd creatures they summon and worship put a strain on even the strongest of Heroes, sometimes resulting in what has come to be coined Burnout. While research into the nature of this phenomenon is still ongoing, due to the limited number of Heroes available in any given region, those who suffer Burnout are transferred to the Rapid Response divisions within cities rather then the more centralized global command. There Heroes who have ungone Burnout work in groups to reclaim their normal effectiveness, working to provide safety to the cities and a stopgap measure to any Cult activity.

Common symptoms of Burnout victims include depression, a lower then average ability to fight off addictive activities (gambling, smoking, drinking, etc.), and a general weakening in ability.

Character Sheet

  • Name:
  • Age: (16-34)
  • Appearance:
  • Personality:
  • Ability: (A characters ability is what makes them a hero, and can range from summoning allies and weapons to throwing around elemental fury.)
  • Post-Burnout: (How the characters ability has been effected by their Burnout. Weaker summons, being able to only throw minor amounts of power. While their abilities might have been godlike before, they have now been reduced to something smaller. But Burnout effects everyone differently.)
  • Backstory: (Most Heroes are recruited from the moment they and shown to have an ability. So describe a bit of home life but add in their time as a 'Hero' as well.)
  • Burnout Incident: (What caused your character to Burnout? Stress of so many missions? A specific event that shocked them to their core? Maybe they don't even know why it happened. Be creative.)
  • Specialty: (Without the catch all of a higher tier power this will be what your character focuses on most within the Burnout department. Essentially what your character would be most useful as. Medic, infiltration, front lines, etc.)
  • Misc: (A catch all for anything not in the basic character sheet.)

I'm interested, but in what kind of world does this RP take place? Real world Earth? Alternate Earth? A fantasy world?

200 years ahead of our world. So things will be different but it's still baseline Earth.

Name: Imogen “Fiver” Lazarescu

Age: 24

Appearance: A short and rather a stocky woman. Usually keeps her hair short and wears long-sleeved shirts or dress shirts with jeans to hide her scars. She has no tattoos on her face apart from a small spiral above one eye so as to improve her undercover value. Reddish hair and many many freckles. Wears glasses.

Personality: Imogen is a thoughtful, somewhat quiet person with a quirky sense of humor. She’s very passionate about using her gifts to help others, but she also has deep reservations and concerns and a sometimes defeatist attitude about doing so, but it usually won’t stop her from pitching in to help. Very inquisitive and curious about the world and constantly sketching and taking pictures of almost everything as well as into researching (she has a tendency to fall down rabbit holes doing so, she’ll admit). She’s gotten into fitness as a way to overcome her Burnout and issues, though she’s also become an (infrequent) smoker.

Ability: Imogen can manifest her tattoos into the real world, with all of the powers, abilities, etc that the “real” versions would possess. Since she was heavily tatted, this gave her a great deal of versatility. She’s also able to internalize multiple images into her own body-for example she can either manifest a flock of crows for spying, attack, and so on or manifest wings, a beak and other parts on herself. Fiver learned through training how to imbue a tattoo she has made on someone else with the properties of its real-life counterpart, such as a person being able to carry a tattoo of a knife and materialize it when needed. Finally, she possesses a minor healing factor that allows her to recover from being inked or sunburned (or surgery, as it turns out) much more quickly than a normal person with no risk of infection.

Post-Burnout: Thanks to her injuries and skin grafts and post-Incident trauma, Imogen is only able to manifest up to five images at a time from herself, or one into her own body. Pushing this limit will result in a possible nervous breakdown, trembling, nosebleeds, and unconsciousness.

Backstory: Imogen has always been interested in learning about the world around her and sharing that with others. As a child she wandered all over her family’s rambling estate with a sketchpad or camera. This interest was carried along with her an adult and became a career. Imogen had some small success as a photographer, then joined the Marines to pay for college and was accepted as that specialty. After her tour Imogen opened a tattoo parlor, where she gained a reputation for the clarity and vivid colors in her work. When a Babel agent who was also a client suggested her name for testing to his superiors, the result was a surprise to everyone except Imogen. “I always felt like the pictures were going to jump off the pages anyway,” she explained.

Her work with the Bureau was at first scattered, as they struggled to find the best application for her gift. It didn’t help that some of the higher-ups were not fond of tattoos in general. But she soon proved her worth when two agents were able to sneak into a Cult group and disrupt it using items she inked onto their bodies. From then on, she was gradually introduced to field operations and proved to be a reliable and versatile operative (The full extent of her ink was deemed a state secret, though rumors that she had an atom bomb on her body as a last resort were persistent).

Post Burnout she’s been recovering from surgery and working as an intelligence consultant/analyst for Babel, though trying to stay far away from any mention of the specific Incident that caused her Burnout.

Burnout Incident: The incident in question was a confluence of several mistakes. A subject under observation for possible Cult activity was seen to be a body-modification enthusiast since he often appeared to look quite different, even from week to week. No indication of gifts was present, and so Imogen was tapped to approach him. They struck up a conversation, and soon she invited him back to her studio. Over the next month, she had drinks, slept with the subject (with her own consent and approval), and finally gave him a free tattoo. The commander of another team discovered that the subject was in fact not simply a Cult sympathizer, but in fact a very influential leader and was suspected of being “blessed” by their deities. This commander decided to take the suspect into custody right away without checking to see if he was being monitored.

When the team burst into Imogen’s apartment, the suspect thought they were there to catch her, as Imogen had manifested her powers in a very small way to him to gain his trust. She attempted to stop them from capturing him, but in the fracas he showed his own powers: the ability to absorb the bodies of others to enhance his own or even grow new limbs, ect. This explained his new “looks”-he’d been eating people to change himself. The ensuing battle left four agents “lost” to the suspect. It was only ended when Imogen, who had been severely burned by stomach acid generated by their opponent, used her own gifts to grow talons and injure him enough that he escaped.

Specialty: Since her Burnout, “Fiver” has slowly come back into the field. She chiefly uses her gifts for infiltration and research gathering, but she can throw down in a fight if need be.

Misc: (A catch-all for anything not in the basic character sheet).

I'm interested for sure:

Name: Jules Jacobson

Age: 20

Appearance: She is very tall, skinny, and has close-shaven dark brown hair. Wears obnoxious cheap t-shirts (the kind you see at mall kiosks) and other inexpensive clothing due to being perpetually broke. Has one prosthetic leg.

Personality: You know when you've had an especially long day of work and you're too tired to be nice to people, but then afterwards you feel really bad about it? Basically that as a default emotional state, but she does try to be decently friendly and courteous. Also, she tends to make fun of herself, inwardly and outwardly, in a kind of pathetic cry-for-help way. Overall kind of a jokester, even though her heart's not in it. Does her best to be polite to other people, which is not very good, but she tries.

Ability: Superhuman speed and agility, slightly enhanced strength, and invulnerability to many weapons (bullets, fire, etc., though she is vulnerable to bludgeoning and poison damage since it's only her skin that's invulnerable.)

Post-Burnout: No longer invulnerable whatsoever, and though she has almost the same speed as before, it takes a mental toll. When she's using her powers, it's similar to when you're falling asleep and random thoughts/images enter your head and you can't concentrate on any one thing. This takes a while to wear off after she stops (about 10, 15 minutes until she can think straight again.) Also gets physically fatigued after using her powers for a long time in a row.

Backstory: Used to be very into playing sports, and found her power set at around 14 in a middle school PE class. Very embarassed about this. Volunteered to be recruited out of a sense of obligation (felt as though if she had the ability to fight the Cults, she had no choice but to). During most battles, she was very good at taking little to no physical harm herself but bad at her role as support. Spent several years joylessly doing hero work until her Burnout. Has very few standout memories from that time, aside from all the death and injury that her mistakes caused. After her Burnout, she quit working for the Bureau, but feels obligated to go back and gets more frustrated every day she doesn't. Does odd jobs as a way to sustain herself, which is made easier due to her abilities. Has no contact with family and no friends closer than a few acquaintances who have repeatedly hired her.

Burnout Incident: She never had any emotional attachment to the people she was saving or working alongside, and as such her life was basically devoid of enjoyment of any kind. She wasn't particularly good at hero work, either, and her bad decisions led to several civilian deaths and injuries. She actually left before her Burnout, and spent 2 hazy years wandering around aimlessly. One night, she was hit by a car and discovered she was unfortunately no longer invulnerable (this is how she ended up with a prosthetic). Is still working off medical debt to this day.

Specialty: Her power set makes her kind of a jack of all trades, and she's especially good at transporting any necessary objects undetected since that's a simple objective. Also pretty good at 1:1 fights when given a weapon, since that relies mostly on instinct. Very bad at anything that requires long term concentration or waiting for a signal.

Misc: Though she currently doesn't work for the Bureau, the idea would be for her to rejoin on or off-screen. Also, I'm assuming cars (and medical debt) still exist. If they don't, please let me know./j

  • Name: Nancy Weaver
  • Age: 34
  • Appearance: A lady who looks like a chipped marble statue of a knight.
  • Personality: Mostly kind, caring, and motherly to anyone younger than her in the Hero business, though she knows when to back off and mind her own business. However, she does not suffer fools lightly since any mistake made by a Hero can mean the deaths of many other people. One does not survive to live as long as she does in the Hero business by being an idiot, and anyone who incurs her wrath will learn a very painful lesson.
  • Ability: Swordsmanship. Any sword that she wields turns into a weapon fit for the gods themselves, and is able to cut through steel and even concrete like butter. Her skill and endurance are massively increased while she is holding a sword, and the wind coming off of her blade can carry the effects of her fearsome power up to 50 feet away, effectively enabling her to shoot sword beams. Even if she was (and still is) as fragile as an ordinary human being, it was impossible to touch her due to her increased agility and her pristine parrying prowess.
  • Post-Burnout: The increase of her skill, endurance, and speed has lessened considerably, and the range of her sword beams have been diminished by half. She was able to retain the cutting power of her strikes, but activating it makes her hands and then her whole body shake and ache like there’s no tomorrow if she uses it too much. There is a very real chance of her keeling over in the middle of a battle due to sheer pain and fatigue. Nancy is also highly dependent on painkillers.
  • Backstory: Nancy used to be a sweet ordinary girl living an ordinary life, but she always had a special interest in fencing and swordsmanship. Getting her powers was like fulfilling the dream of a lifetime. However, she had all the time in the world to grow more cynical as she worked for the Tower of Babel organization, but she didn’t. She is somewhat famous for surviving as long as she has, even after her Burnout. Nancy is still doing her best to be a knight in shining armor for the people continuously menaced by monsters.
  • Burnout Incident: Overwork. The Tower of Babel organization continuously overworked her despite her protests, declining vacation requests and giving her mandatory overtime until she just couldn’t take it anymore and burned out. This incident prompted an internal investigation which is still ongoing.
  • Specialty: Frontline fighter. Nancy is still a very strong fighter despite her handicaps, and is very determined to bear the pain of her powers and keep going even if she starts to run on fumes, which has served her well so far, but could also kill her if she keeps this stubborn and harmful mentality up.
  • Misc: N/A

Booky- Fiver is accepted.

tomfool- Jules is accepted, however I would like if she were to join the task force at the start so we don't have to write the initial bits without her being involved.

Jumping Fruit- Nancy is tentatively accepted, however the Malevolents are the 'gods' that the cults summon. As she is a Burnout even one is a foe beyond her power. If she could still fight even with a drawback she would be on the frontlines.

  • Name: Thomas Vale
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: Tom apparently used to be a bushy haired, thin and nerdy kid - nowadays though he's more toward a glasses-wearing dirty blond haired tall, wide and muscular type. Tom is easily 6 foot three inches tall, and between his looks and tight muscled frame, it's easy to mistake him for a rather brutish sort. His blond hair is short cut and haphazard looking, indicating he cuts it himself. He has light blue eyes, and while he's not blind without them, he sometimes can't differentiate between similar looking people without his glasses on. He usually wears a tight polo shirt, a black and tan leather coat with soft material near the neck, black jeans, and boots.
  • Personality: Thomas still is still rather quiet, and doesn't talk all that much, to the extent it indicates he has some pronounced mental issues. Even though Tom prefers to be left alone, if his buttons or trigger phrases are pushed, he goes from a softspoken, nice and bookish young man into a surprisingly violent and capable fighter. He very readily puts himself into danger if he detects that his friends are under threat, even if that means getting injured. Tom has the bad habit of ignoring his own injuries and problems in the name of trying to fight off dangerous people. He is prone to going over the edge when pushed too far. He's a surprisingly detailed craftsman, all things considered - he likes making items and keepsakes. He likes sharing his arts and projects with others, and doesn't even charge for making something special.
  • Ability: Tom's official ability is that he creates weapons, in large numbers and in very intricate designs and specializations that have a special property called Strikethrough - whatever his weapons hit have a tendency to break, even if the thing he's hitting should be damn near indestructible.
  • Post-Burnout: Post-Burnout, however, Tom's weapons - like quite a few of the things he's made - have a tendency to break after one to three uses before requiring him to back off and summon something else up.
  • Backstory: Young Tommy Vale was just on vacation with his charming older brother Ricky, his older sister Kayla, and his newly divorced mother Charlotte when things started to go wrong. Ricky went over to a house full of rampant partiers and established friendships over there and a relationship...and then a few days later, Ricky disappeared. Even after a pronounced search of the nearby woods, nobody found Ricky Vale. Tommy - who greatly looked up to his older brother - was devastated. And then things got worse still when he witnessed the entire house next door being attacked by a group of Malevolent Cultists, led in their charge by a vile creature that was directly and direly empowered by a Malevolent. There was no reason or rationale, just spite. Tom ultimately hid himself away, and managed to score a lucky hit when the monstrosity attacked his house, shortly after the creature attacked and killed his mother. This was about when Tom started to develop his powers, pulling weapons from the air and repeatedly bludgeoning and stabbing the creature even while it was down...and once the grotesque bag over its head was removed, he saw one of Ricky's eyes and some of his face staring back at him from the dead abomination. As the cult fled, Tom's mind started its downward decline. Even as he was brought into the heroic profession, he never found it very rewarding or inspirational. His sister severed all contact with him, viewing him as "tainted". Eventually, he would lose himself in work and creating weapons for fellow heroes. All the while leading himself toward burnout...
  • Burnout Incident: Half of it was the stress and the anticipation. The other half of his burnout was the nightmares, the waking dreams, and the hallucinations and delusions of the return of that monster that killed his family, made him train and live each day anticipating it would one day return. Even though Tom maintained his body at the very peak of fitness, his mind was another question altogether. He's dealing with a bevvy of issues, survivor guilt, and feeling like he's no longer the person his sister remembers. That he really is tainted, rather than heroic.
  • Specialty: Frontlines.
  • Misc: Tom learned a lot of martial arts moves to try and calm himself down whenever his emotions got a little too heavy for him. He's remarkably skilled with his barehanded fighting.
    • He's a skilled survivalist, and knows his way around mundane weapons just as well as his heroic fare.

The Light That Blinds
#11: Apr 30th 2020 at 5:44:34 PM

Name: Raphael Siyan

Age: 17

Appearance: Tall and lithe, with tanned skin and long golden hair tied into a ponytail. Wears fancy clothes almost all the time, and has an extremely pretty face. Most of his skin is under an illusion—dispelling it would reveal some rather nasty burn scars.

Personality: Arrogant and egotistical, Raphael is Better Than You and he knows it. He's an extremely magnetic individual, able to dominate whatever room he's in by sheer force of personality. Older Heroes look down on him, regarding him as an arrogant idiot who cares more about glory than the people he's supposed to save. The arrogant part is correct, but the rest is mostly a misconception—Raphael is actually pretty smart, and if he was just out for glory he wouldn't've gotten a job that involved risking his life.

He may not act like it early in the RP, though—he's only recently been discharged from the hospital after his burnout, and the deaths of his teammates haunt him. It's the first time he's seriously questioned himself and his abilities, and he likes himself a lot less for it. Around others, however, he puts on a brave face and acts just as confident as he was prior to the incident.

Ability: Light constructs. He can solidify and shape light into whatever he fancies—weapons, armor, tools, even living things. Each construct lasts for an hour, more if he pushes himself. He's also capable of bending light to create illusions, which last up until he dispels them.

Post-Burnout: Raphael was hit especially hard by burnout—his constructs, of which he can now only have three active, last for about a minute before dissipating, and while minor illusions (like the ones covering his scars) are active indefinitely, major ones last for thirty seconds max. Attempting to push these limits leads to exhaustion, nausea, dizziness, headaches, nosebleeds, vomiting, fainting, or (if he pushes too far) heart attacks or strokes. In addition, the burnout as a whole left him with a weakened constitution, which he is still getting used to.

Backstory: Blessed with natural good looks, Raphael was one of the most popular kids in school. Everyone liked him, everyone trusted him, and many people had a crush on him. It didn't take long at all for him to rise to the top of his school's social hierachy, and it took even less time for said popularity to go to his head.

He discovered his powers by accident—he'd been having an argument with someone, held out his hand, and wham, a hard light wall solidified between them. After this discovery, he signed on with the Tower of Babel, where he learned of his secondary illusion powers. Despite being disliked by the higher-ups (mostly due to his colossal ego), he successfully made it into a team of superpowered teenagers like himself, where he quickly took the lead thanks to sheer force of personality.

Raphael became especially good friends with Neptune, a shy member of his team with control over water. The two were rarely seen apart, enough so that rumors began circulating over their..."closeness". If either of them had ever heard the rumors, they didn't pay attention to or make any effort to dispute them.

Burnout Incident: Stress was half of it—if that had been the only reason, his burnout wouldn't've been half as bad as it was. As it was, Raphael's team had just closed in on a Cult that proved a little...more like a lot stronger than they had expected. After losing four members of a seven-man team, Raphael finally just summoned a storm of blades to impale all the Cultists, which killed all of them...and almost caused a burnout. Almost.

The actual burnout came later, when the house they'd been fighting in suddenly exploded. The Cult had succeeded in summoning a Malevolent.

Everything immediately went to hell. The initial explosion killed his third teammate and burned Raphael. He and Neptune did their best against the creature, but it was hopeless. Nothing they did even scratched it, especially with Raphael in the throes of burnout. Eventually, he collapsed from sheer pain, and the last thing he saw before blacking out was the Malevolent impaling Neptune in the chest.

A week later, he awoke in a hospital bed. A group of older operatives had arrived at the house by chance, and found an unconscious Raphael and five burnt, bloody bodies. Yes, five—he asked, and it turned out Neptune had simply...vanished. They found his blood here and there, but there was no body.

Since then, Raphael has been recovering from the events, using his illusions to cover his burn scars (it's vain, he knows that, he doesn't care), and trying to find out what happened to Neptune. The higher-ups are reasonably sure he was killed by the Malevolent, but since there was no body, Raphael holds onto hope that he's alive...somewhere.

Specialty: Since he burnt out so badly, Raphael serves best as an infiltrator. Able to gracefully blend into any social situation, he's just about the best person for the job of dealing with other people.

Misc: He is bisexual, allergic to peanuts, and likes romance novels. (The last one is a source of shame.)

"Kept me waiting, haven’t you? Tch. No matter. Dawdle all you’d like. In the end, your defeat remains inevitable."

Eh I'm late but screw it.

  • Name: Allister Schrader
  • Age: 22
  • Appearance: The type who could be mistaken for a reanimated corpse at first glance. Stands at a fairly towering 6'0", but possesses an unsettlingly skeletal physique, along with a complexion and fashion sense about as colourful as a blank sheet of paper. The latter often gets contrasted by his thick curtain of pitch black hair, cascading down to roughly knee-length, where it then breaks up into loose curls and waves. With such a monotonous appearance, the only feature that consistently stands out about him are his eyes—nowadays their shade of deep blue being more tired-looking and saddening than striking.
  • Personality: They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and Allister has reached the end of that road. Once upon a time a bright and passionate hero, all pretense of this was pushed away after his Burnout in favour of a cold, robotically professional exterior.
    • On the plus side, he's strongly introspective and holds himself to high standards, having an intense determination to complete what he sets out to do regardless of the personal cost. When paired with his level of intellect and talent, this makes him out to be a formidable enemy...or at least would make him, if heroes didn't work in teams so often. Allister is heavily individualistic thanks to having been on his own for so long, and as a result, tends to hesitate to rely on others. At worst, he can even come across as a self-centred bastard. Coupled with his loner attitude, needless to say, this hasn't earned him any favour with his peers.
    • Contrary to what others might think of him, however, Allister doesn't truly mean any ill intent. He isn't a violent man and wouldn't contemplate malice; while he acts jaded and cynical outwardly, in truth, he's quite the romantic, if not a very ambivalent one due to a complicated worldview. He has an intrinsic desire to believe in the good of people, but time and time again, these ideals have been shattered. Oftentimes by what he's seen during hero work, indirectly contributing to his Burnout. It's clear that there's a lot of disharmony and makeshift rationalisation going on in his mind.
    • Because of this, he's developed a distant demeanour, perhaps a form of denial in order to cope with the grim reality this world plagued with Malevolents exists in—but not all hope is lost. Despite how he appears, he's still the same sensitive young man underneath it all. Ardent about the things he loves and wants to uphold, maybe a bit too naïve, a head-in-the-clouds dreamer to a fault...Allister hasn't forgotten himself, exactly. It just might take a little while for him to return.
  • Ability: Redefinition: While this is what his ability is formally called, it could be better described as really, really precise matter manipulation. Before his Burnout, Allister had the ability to disassemble structures in his surroundings on a molecular level and alter, recreate, or destroy them according to his whims. Including his own body.
    • Subsonic speed, elemental control, near-instantaneous regeneration...you name it, he could achieve it. By altering the structure of his own cells in particular, growing back limbs from remains as meagre as a couple scattered particles could be done in a matter of seconds. Think of it as Overhaul on steroids, if you will. In fact, if his ability wasn't so limited by touch-activation, it'd be fair to equate him to a toned down reality warper.
  • Post-Burnout: Depending on who you ask, it's either horrific or hilarious how hard Burnout ended up hitting Allister. For some reason, he's completely lost the ability to unmake and generate things, instead being limited to what's already present. Attempting to use it tends to yield the result of Allister spewing his guts out on the pavement, being sent into throes of screaming agony whenever he tries to so much as think in that state, and blacking out with temporary memory loss afterwards. In that order. Figures that he found this out the hard way.
    • He did retain his elemental abilities and regeneration, though. However, the exertion required to put out power with the former (on a level he was able to reach effortlessly in the past) somehow managed to triple, and on top of that, using his regeneration now drains energy out of him as if a parasite. Even mending simple fractures leaves him noticeably sluggish, and repairing major organs downright induces exhaustion. Obviously, this would make super speed kind of pointless, so in any given fight it's usually a one-off choice between "being too fast to hit but going down the moment he does" or "freely tanking attacks but moving at the rate of spilled molasses."
    • Additionally, if the damage Allister takes is bad enough, his body automatically shuts down into a forced comatose state until enough time and energy is consumed for his healing factor to stabilise him. ...Probably the main reason he tends to stay away from the front lines. Healing other people isn't as taxing on him, but it's still a lot harder than it was before.
  • Backstory: Allister had a bit of an early start when it came to finding out about his gifts. He only hazily remembers it, but at a mere 6 years old, he happened to activate his ability one everyday afternoon...and accidentally disassembled one of his caretakers' molecules. His parents and grandparents long dead and his few other relatives wanting nothing to do with him after the incident, that left him a lone child carrying newly-discovered volatile superhuman abilities—with plainly not many other options, he ended up being taken in by Babel agents.
    • At this point, his fate as a future Human Reality Binder was all but set in stone. The massive potential he possessed was quickly discovered, and so his upbringing was mostly punctuated by professional training and drills during private Hero education; while not cruel by any means, it was rather impersonal. This left him largely alone growing up. He eventually took up hobbies of tinkering with animunculi and automatons to keep himself busy in the meantime.
    • Upon turning 16, however, Allister was finally sent into the field against Cultists. As silently disgusted as he was at their actions, there wasn't much else to do but grit his teeth and bear it like everyone else—but unfortunately, the Cults' activites were simply rampant enough in his time that these distractions would only last so long.
  • Burnout Incident: Caused by a lot of things, but extreme pressure, total lack of value for anything, and having no genuine purpose other than "was sorta literally just ordered to stay alive" were at the forefront of causing him to have a mental breakdown (during the rather macabre aftermath of a failed mission led to restrain a loose Malevolent). "Why are we still here, just to suffer?" indeed. The authorities were horrified when they heard the news, to say the least. He frequently suffers dissociative episodes because of it.
  • Specialty: Used to be perfectly geared towards frontlining, but nowadays it's mostly support roles and damage control.
  • Misc:

Well, that’d be jus’ a waste. Why would ya want to deprive the world of such anomaly as yourself?

Personality: Once a feisty little spitfire, Jessie has become a shell of her former shell. Bitter, jaded, and aggressive, she's a walking mass of anger and self-resentment, barely keeping both in check like a burner set on low. But underneath that, she's just... empty. Before her burnout, she was always aiming towards the top, trying to prove she was the best of the best at the expense of everything else. Now she wonders what it what was all for. If there was a real point to any of it. In spite of that, she still gives it her all and fights for every scrap she can get, if only because she doesn't know how else to live.
  • She's also a heavy chain smoker and a raging alcoholic. The former is somewhat alleviated by her natural resistance to smoke. The latter, not so much. Though she's always been a bit of both. Ever since she was a teen, she's been a rabid party animal and wild child. Always acting out, going to parties, having flings, and whatever other crazy shit she got up to. Post burnout, that hasn't changed. Even if now it's more of a means of escape than anything else.
  • Ability: Before the burnout, Jesse was a pyrokinetic of the highest order. Capable of unleashing massive waves and pillars of flame, she could raze a building to the ground in seconds. She could even set herself ablaze and not get so much as singed, even if she had to put on a new set of clothes every time she did it.
  • Post-Burnout: Post burnout, Jesse is less of a firestorm and more of a flamethrower. She can still toss out large balls or small blasts of fire, as well as raise a wall of flame directly in front of herself. She's still highly resistant to flame and smoke as well. That said, she can't set herself on fire without suffering burns if she's set ablaze for too long, nor can she light entire buildings ablaze like she used to.
  • Backstory: From the moment she was born, Jessie was a helluva little spitfire. She was ready and raring to go, always charging in headfirst and setting the world ablaze with her fiery, gungho attitude. By 14, she was a major sports addict, seeking every chance she could to get in there and prove herself. And it was on her birthday during a soccer game that when she went in for a big winning kick, she wound up setting both the ball, the goal post, and the entire field on fire. Not long after that, she was recruited by Babel. After being trained in her powers, she swore to become the best of the best. She put her all into every mission she got, even if it meant snubbing some of her teammates, and quickly rose through the ranks. Perhaps a bit too quickly.
  • Burnout Incident: After 10 years of pushing herself above and beyond, taking on more than anyone would reasonably expect and constantly taking risk after risk, she finally burnt herself out. Literally and figuratively. Despite her attempts to deny it, putting so much effort into her career at the expense of any semblance of a normal life took its toll. She became incredibly stressed, nearly blowing a gasket at every opportunity. Until finally, during a particularly stressful mission, she blew. In a fit of uncontrollable rage, she engulfed herself in a searing blast of flame, taking out anything and everything in a one mile radius. And that was it. The fallout of a blast of that magnitude left her a mere shadow of what she once was. In body and soul. And she'd never quite be the same again.
  • Speciality: Jessie is mostly relegated to the front lines. With a power as destructive as hers, it's not like it's good for much else.
  • Misc: Jessie enjoys action flicks and raunchy comedies, as well as action games. She's also a bit of a pyromaniac, though that goes without saying. Her flames are also a bright burning blue, matching her rather unusual hair color.
